I lean back and begin to hum. The ancient dirge that rolls off of my tongue is a low mournful tune. I close my eyes and allow the whispered music to surround me.

I'm assuming you're in the hut. You're welcome, I guess? I don't think I've ever been thanked for being a grammar cop before, I mean, unless it was sarcastic.

Herate hears the music and turns around. She decides not to disturb him, though, and returns to her previous position.

Fadran listens with an unfocused, blissed silence.

Vale drinks in the melody for a few moments that stretch much much longer, before standing up. He nods to the group before walking around the hill and out of sight

I open a single eye and trail off as I sense Herate turn around. I meet her gaze for a moment. "This an old song that I learned in my youth many eons ago. It speaks of those who have been lost and yet are not truly gone. I find that it clears my mind when I need to be at peace. I cannot lose myself to dreams, but I can immerse myself in it." I close my eye and resume humming.

T wakes up, now well rested. "I can also keep watch, if you guys want to sleep." Ember lays down where she was sleeping, just after she jumps onto the shack.

Hearing a scream, Enter rushed in the direction of the sound.

By the time he got there, it was over.

I stop for a moment before resuming the humming. My body pulses in time with the tune.

Herate finished her soulstamp and stamped herself, trying to see if it would take.

Jek leaned against the wall and closed his eyes, relaxing. Spin stepped up behind Herate. "What stamp was that?"

"I've realized that the stamps I have are not adequate for the situations I find myself in. I'm trying to create a mechanic stamp," Herate answers without turning to face Spin.

"So we don't know if she's dead?"

The tune dies in my throat as I hear the hurt in her voice. I open my eyes. When I speak my voice is little more than a whisper. "She may still live. For the moment she is beyond us. She is lost to us as others are lost to us. We have lost much. If she lives we will get her back." I sit in pensive silence.

Fadran, for the first time in awhile, let the sounds of his friends carry him to sleep.

"Thank you." Herate looks over at Nath. "For more than that."

I nod. I close my eyes to hide the tears within. A moment later I begin to hum a tune just as ancient as the first, but far less melancholy. It's notes weave a hopeful tapestry. It floats upon the air creating a magic stronger than that of any deity. My mind calms as each layer builds upon the last.

Jek closes his eyes again and lets out a breath, relaxing, and lets himself fall asleep for the first time in days.

Herate closes her eyes briefly and appreciates the music, but then her eyes catch on something in the distance.
