27 minute mark.  What is the curse of kind?  Do we know?  Did Brandon let something slip?

I mean, I heard of it and assumed it was something kind of like bad luck, but I didn't know exactly what it was. That's cool.

It is also apparently mentioned in his interlude but we don't know anything about it.

I believe it is in book one

Edut- found it. It's in book one, the second set of interludes, page 438.

Here it is.

I am drawn to the use of the word "kind" twice. It might be a racial curse. Secondly I do not think it refers to the backwards shadow as he talks about the CoK making the backward shadow a bigger problem.

Seems like there are at least two kinds of Fortune

Future sight and luck and the curse of kind of bad luck,

But that's my opinion

Im curious if it's a qualitative difference, or if he's just stuck at a reduced Fortune the way somebody would be while filling their chromium metalminds.  Feruchemy theoretically has the same sort of increased/decreased slider-bar on their Fortune stat, perhaps the Curse of Kind just got the Saih Amians just stuck that way.  Which would then beg the question of where their normal level of fortune Investiture is going?  Is it the Curse of Kind because his "kind", his people, somehow used it all up once upon a time and are retroactively paying the bill?  Are they trading Fortune for Immortality (ie Chromium style Investiture in, Atium style out)?

Could "Kind" be the name of someone?

I suppose although I think it more likely that it is a species wide curse.

Fortune from what we can tell is not luck.  From the hints that we have seen I think it is more like a current that pulls events along(a bit like destiny).  IE a tide of fortune pulled the 10 through time to Dalinar.  This is why Kaladin was seeing all those visions.

I see them as basically the same things, in this context, just with different Vectors.  Good Luck = moving towards that Destiny, towards a future that better aligns with a global/universal Platonic Ideal (a "Perfect" world) while Bad Luck/ Reduced Fortune is going to leave you more rudderless and prone to going off course.  So Bad Luck wouldnt be an active force in it's own right, but reducing the normal level of Fortune aspect that a person has (using the Feruchemy model) would make your future "destiny" far easier to manifest in a detrimental way.

We know however that shards may be able to manipulate fortune so moving to it or with it may just mean doing what say Odium wants you to be doing consciously or not.  \

Fair point.  At that point though I dont know if the Shard is manipulating you or if they are manipulating the Spiritual Realm and its Platonic Ideal itself.

I don't think that would count as manipulated you personally.  It would probably be more general.  I am influencing events that you are caught up in.

I wonder if the Siah Aimians got a species wide blessing/curse from the Nightwatcher.  Their blessings are bodies that are extremely physically changeable at will (and extremely long lifespans as a result) but balanced with a curse of awful luck.

I wonder if the Nightwatcher can do that.  Good guess is so.
