Awakening Shardplate

it would require an insane amount of breath probably more than even the god king has so theretically it might be able to do something but in practice nothing is gonna happen and since it is metal it would require at least the 9th heightning anyway which has problems with how many breaths hoid or vasher have with them in this scenario  anyway since its already made of a god metal solid investiture with more stomlight flowing threw it and it being metal getting usable breath into it to awaken it isnt going to be generally possible probably eaiser to try and pull something like nightblood but with some form of armor with a command like protect me or something while picturing how shard plate works that might give a interesting result

Questioner

Can you awaken a Shardblade?

Brandon Sanderson

Can you Awaken a Shardblade? A Shardblade would already be defined as Awakened, by the magic systems.

Questioner

And what about the Plate?

Brandon Sanderson

Plate would already be defined as probably too heavily Invested to Awaken because it already is.

Here's the WOB for that info, if you wanted a backup.

Not in any meaningful way per the WoB above.  You might might might be able to shove some extra investiture into it but if you have that much breath and expertise you have better things you can do with that.  Also Welcome!

First of all, nice name, @Darth_Obama

Secondly, Hi! Welcome to the Shard!

Thirdly, a Shardplate is speculated to be made of solidified Investiture, that's too Invested to be Awakened, Investiture resists other Investiture. Plus, Law of BioChromatic Parallelism means Awakening something that doesn't resemble life in shape/form would be harder to Awaken

Well technically Shardplate DOES resemble life in shape/form. It's very human shaped, just... not in the typical sense. But yeah the other points do pretty much mean it wouldn't work, and it's sort of pointless anyway.

god point about the law of parrelelism it would also depend if the suit of shardplate is seen as a single object other wise youd have to awaken it in pieces also shard plate being a god metal/ solid investiture isnt really speculated its  pretty much known this is wob says spren when they becoem shard blades are a god metal and this other one says there made of pretty much the same metal just so its solified investiture

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

I also got confirmed that the metal that spren turn into is god metal.

Is Shardplate made of the same material as Shardblades? Is there a difference in material between a "dead" Shardblade and a living one?

Brandon Sanderson

You can generally look at all three as being the same material.
