I'm LDS, but have never really posted here, so.....

Hello! I got accepted into BYU Provo and start this Fall, and I'm planning to submit my mission papers around December or so.

Fun! Where do you want to go?

I'd really like to go to Japan or somewhere in that kind of area. I...really like Asian food, and Japan is really clean with really nice people.

Epic, my brother is in Lyon, France right now, and he'll be going to BYU Provo when he is finished with his mission.

Okay genuine question.

So I have a friend who is a system. So they have like a form of osdd which in basic terms is similar yo D.I.D. so they have different alters.

Now this got me thinking cause each alter could have their own faith.

And one of the temple recommend questions is "do you worship any other gods or put anyone before christ?" And lets say they are but an alter worships like a Greek god. ... does that like stop them from being able to go to the temple? Like...

How would that work?

The answer is let the Bishop handle that as they have the Keys for it. They have ways to contact the First Presidency in particularly difficult situations.

Just watched this Youtube video, and it's super cool. it shows a bunch of evidence that the Jewish people were in the Americas prior to columbus, and the evidence seems (to me) to match up with Lehi's journey to the Americas. totally recommend it, it was fascinating.

I knew of the general idea of linguistic evidence, but I haven’t watched that specific youtube video.

I'll have to watch it and ask a few people about their thoughts on some groups I'm a part of.

Lookin' at you, Galatians 1:8 and 2 Nephi 25:23.

Lol, the bashers are so funny.

My favorite was probably the guy who tried to tell me the Apostles are all the same person.

That's a new one. The ancient apostles, or the current ones?

don't forget Revelation 22:18-19

Yep, that one too. Never mind that it wasn't actually written last. And what plagues? Last I checked, we were doing pretty well.

But seriously, I am genuinely baffled that anyone still uses 2 Nephi against us. It tells me immediately that they don't take us remotely seriously and probably got a list of talking points from a book or their pastor. It can lead to a genuine and interesting discussion if they're open to it, but we're not off to a great start.

The ancient Apostles. He was trying to say the Church was false for rejecting the Trinity, so I brought out John 17:20-22 were Jesus prayed that the Apostles would be One, just as He is One with the Father.

My dear basher either had to reject the Trinity or accept the Apostles as all being one person. I was not prepared for his answer.

That’s…. A very interesting take….

I would not be prepared for that either

I had a similar thing where a dude straight up said Jesus was the Bible because of John 1:1.

But that doesn't...

The time travel required for that to work is just beyond me.

Oh my.

I've seen that one a few times, actually. Maybe not that exact argument--it's usually used as a point in favor of biblical inerrancy. I certainly don't read it that way, but I'm too damnably inarticulate to really explain it.

The Bible existed before the creation… then that book went and became human and “died”(how does a book die?)… And then it got written…

yeah… that’s too much
