I am kind of jealous of the future readers of the Stormlight Archive. Because one day when the series is finished someone could pick up The Way Of Kings and be finished with the whole series in like a year. They will not understand the pain of having to wait for each book to release, Mostly because they couldn’t have our pain.

I don't know, I kind of love the build up to getting a new Stormlight book. Oathbringer was the first time I was following the whole process, and with readings at signings, the Reddit updates, cover and art reveals and the entirety of part one being released as sample chapters week by week the wait is almost as fun as getting the actual book. Especially the discussions and speculation after each weeks sample chapters. I’m really, really looking forward to all of this for RoW.

It is strange and bitter sweet to think about those who come after us having the entire archive available to them without having to wait. But I bet some of them will wish that they were around for the formative years of the franchise. They won't have all the memories and shared experiences that we do.

Does anyone else remember trying to use audible the day Oathbringer came out, so many people were all downloading it that the storming site froze up! I was so frustrated! But these are the memories that bind a fandom together and make it strong.

Miss out on events like the swarm of pre-oathbringer theorizing, and the constant speculative ramblings that is these forums and discord... As well as watching theories be vindicated or crushed when books arrive, with time to formulate more between?

No way!

This community is more than half the joy of the books. I pity those who aren't aware of it and miss the opportunities for discussion and entertaining arguments.

I do agree with you but I also miss the days when WoKs was just a cool fantasy book that I picked up at a library because the author sounded familiar.

This.  A big part of me would like the instant gratification of it all, but getting all the answered prevents you from using it for this sort of ongoing speculation.

I feel both sides of this every time I binge a new Netflix show, it feels great to have it all (at least a season at a time) but there is no chance to enjoy the anticipation.

I, being younger, am very late to the party with Star Wars, obviously. I get to miss out on all the anticipation building for the original or real Star Wars trilogy. It is because of this I accidentally ended up liking the prequel trilogy. Now my family has disowned me and I live in a box because nobody will hire me (not actually).

In seriousness, I'm actually kind of glad we get to go through this experience. I will tell you that I didn't find Stormlight Archive until not that long ago, and I was kind of sad I wouldn't ever be able to theorize about Oathbringer. No, I didn't get years after finishing Words of Radiance to explore every avenue, every possibility ever, to go down every road. I finished it, wondered "what's gonna happen next" and picked up the next book. So there's that.

Same here @Knight of Iron

RoW is the first time I have got the chance to reread all the earlier books, form my own theories, participate in others theories here on the shard. I have lived every bit of it and most importantly I think this process helps me understand the books in a way I would not have if I had all 10 available with me in one go.

I think this summarizes my opinions beautifully.

I started WoT in 1993, ASoI&F And SoT in 1996 and KKC in 2010...

I ABSOLUTELY Love the anticipation. I live for the announcement of ‘The Next Book.’

I tend to miss hints and clues and subtext, so I need my fellow Brandon obsessives to point them out to me.

Shudders.  Other people talk about it.

And they talk about the Cosmere. What magic is this?
