"Altough I doubt it. The Reapers are nothing but a myth. They don't exist in real."

“Reapers?”

Cheh asked. “We have reapers where I come from. They reap crops when the harvest comes.”

He looked to Sagitta and frowned. “Though I think you might be talking about a different type of reaper? Because I don’t know why you would think a farm reaper isn’t real.” Well, maybe for them it wasn’t. Maybe they used their Biotic gravity powers to grow crops.

"Not a farm reaper."

Sagitta gave a helpless shrug with her shoulders.

"Like I said, they aren't real. They are said to be a race of super-powerful beings and that they wipe out the whole galaxy in strictly defined cycles. A fairytale to scare little children. If there is such a powerful race, them we would know about them. Or at least we would know more than we do."

“Oh,” Cheh said. The reapers she talked about didn’t sound like fun. But if she was right, they didn’t even exist, so no need to worry.

“Yeah, maybe it’s some very powerful enemy.” He thought for a moment, and shrugged.

“I still am at a loss why I was chosen. My world is small, and the enemies there don’t threaten the planet, or the universe or galaxy. They just threaten a few other people. Compared to everything else, my world is really weak. Meanwhile other worlds,” he gestured to the others in the pod.

“Already have the abilities of probably the most powerful being in my world.”

"Maybe it isn't about the abilities. Maybe it's about something else, something we can't understand. The moment beings older and more powerful start planning we are nothing but pawns getting moved over a field of chess."

"Do you want to give it a try, to work together? There isn't much to do apart from that."

“Okay,” Cheh said. He could be a team-player, even if it was with someone with another planet. Stomping on the ground Cheh propelled a rock fragment vertically in the air. It sailed over his head and landed across the escape pod with a clang. Cheh smiled.

“I hope I can go back home,” he said. “I have a family. Maybe after we do whatever John wants us to, I want to go home. I like my planet.” Cheh looked to Jessy and another thought appeared in his head.

“I wonder if you could lift me up with your gravity powers?”

Jessy nodded and lifted a hand.

"Of course I can. and in different directions as well."

She created a small sphere next to him, which slowly started to pull everything towards its center in the air above the ground. Cheh, the rock, some pencils, even a glass of water including the content."

Rydin sighed and began to mess with his Stand Knife. "Careful." Three cautioned, "I don't wanted to be Requiem'd just yet."

"Yeah, I know, I know." Rydin muttered, "Go turn some people into stone, why dont you."

Cheh felt a pull on him, and slowly he began to move in the direction of the sphere she made, yelping childishly when his feet lost contact with the ground, suddenly feeling powerless and vulnerable, with no earth in contact with or around him to bend. He'd never had his feet suspended from the ground like this, and his earthbender danger reflexes kept screaming 'danger' to him. His breath quickened but he tried to calm himself, stopping himself from hyperventilating.

"I - wow, this is weird," he forced his gaze from his floating body to Jessy. "We have people who can do this where I come from. I never understood them. The ground is stable, the ground is consistent. And the sky is scary."

Jessy stepped below him, to catch him should he fall, then stopped the forced keeping in the air.

"I grew up on ships travelling the sky, between the planets. I don't fear the sky. But to be grounded, forced to stay in one place."

She shurgged.

"It doesn't work for me."

“But what about you? How is the planet you come from like?”

"I was born on a ship like this one. I grew up on a ship. I visited planets, but I lived on the citadel, a station in the sky."

Jessy laughed.

"I never stayed on the earth for long. I was always up in the sky."

Hopefully he could understand it. She felt like the concept of space, of planets and the endles dark between them hadn't quite reached him yet. Behind him, the voilett ball winked out of existence, restoring gravity for all.

“Have you ever visited the moon? Is it as big as it looks in the sky?” Cheh asked, growing excited. “The stars? Are they really the spirits looking down you? And —”

The gravity ball winked out behind him and he fell with a yelp.

Jessy caught him easily and stood him on his feet.

"Yes I've been to the moon. And the stars are planets, worlds if you want to. Like earth, just differently."

She laughed and pointed outside.

"On many of these stars life is possible, or people are living there."

“Living on stars?” Cheh asked, eternally grateful she had caught him and happy to be on land again.

“I wonder if stars can be bent. What are stars made out of?” He asked her.

"What is earth made of?"

She asked him and then stepped to one of the large windows.

"Earth is a planet, as are many of these stars. When you stand on one of the stars and look up into the sky, earth is nothing but a white dot on an otherwise black sky."

“You mean it’s possible to earthbend stars?” Cheh asked, following her to look outside the window. He didn’t understand why they needed this big machine to travel here, a simple boat or glider should have sufficed. He thought about what she said of stars, and how they were made of earth. Cheh blinked. He couldn’t even metalbend, why was he thinking of stars?

“You seem to know a lot,” he said idly. “I bet your people probably know more about the spirits than we do too.”

"Tell be about the spirits."

She asked him and shook her head.

"I don't know a lot about them."

Apart from the fact, that they didn't exist, or rather were subject of discussion. There were always those that believed in what they couldn't see. More often than not a biotic child was the reason. But the way he talked about them had her think, that he in fact believed in the spirits and as there was nothing more to do, she smiled at him curiously.

Cheh looked at her. Well, as his father had told him, even the wisest monk had something to learn.

“They come from the Spirit World,” he said.

“It’s another place, I don’t know how to explain it, it’s not another, physical place. It’s like... another plane of being. Spirits are from there, they are creatures formed by natural processes, or represent them. They are... beautiful, and dangerous.”

He continued to look outside the window. “Recently, more spirits have been coming to the normal world, but still. One day I wish I’ll be able to see the Spirit World myself, not just in pictures from books. But, as an Earthbender, my nationality and magic are the complete opposite of what it takes.”

"What does it take to see the spirit world?"

Jessy asked and thought about his words. Spirits. For now there was no explanation, but then you didn't need an explanation for everything. Things like Biotics, nobody had thought them possible before. Maybe the spirits were just some type of technology Cheh and his tribe weren't able to understand. And as they couldn't explain it, it was magic.

"Can we try to go there?"

As John is inactive, do you have a plan where to take this? I am perfectly fine with a conversation, but at one point, even we will run out of topics :P

Cheh laughed.

“I guess we can try.” He looked to Jessy.

“It takes practise in meditation. You know meditation, right? When you are very skilled in meditation, your essence, or your soul, can separate from your body and enter the Spirit World. Meditation comes easier to some and harder to others. Me, it would come harder to. Earth is the element most opposite to spirituality.”

He looked to her. “But you say you spend most of your life in the sky,” he thought for a moment. “So maybe it could work easier for you.”

Since it’s an escape pod, maybe it can land on a planet (it doesn’t have to be any planet they know, it can be a generic ‘rainforest planet’ :P) And then they get ambushed by enemy forces on that planet and have to hide or find civilisation?

"I know meditation. But I have to admit, I was bad at it. Never really worked for me, all this sitting sitll, emptying your mind. Breathing."

She laughed again.

"Not my style -"

Jessy froze when she a red lamp start blinking, her face turning earnest. Quickly she ran over to the control panel, looked it over. It was strange, different from the ones she was used to. She couldn't even read the letters next to the controls.

"Come on, come on, come on."

Her hands brushed over the various controls and she tapped her tongue against her teeth as  she always did, when something wasn't working. That lever over there. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, then opened them again. Taking her time she forced herself to calmly look over the panel again.

"I think we got caught by a plant. Most likely we will crash. If we're lucky, the programming of this thing will take over and soften the fall."

“Crash?” Cheh asked, moving over to the controls. He looked at the blinking red lights. They had been caught by a planet. How did a planet catch them? A part of Cheh was excited, a new planet.

“Will we die if that happens?” Cheh wished he could metalbend. If he could, maybe he could control this ship and soften the fall himself. But of course, he was useless.

"Maybe."

Jessy started to looked around, then focused again on the panel.

"Can you search for suits like cloths, but with helmets. We know nothing about that planet, nothing. It could be poisonous, or the air unbreathable."

She asked him with a vague gesture around the escape pod then the slowly pushed a button. The information on the screen changed. Showed a grafic she thought she might be able to understand. More red lights started to blink and she looked at the grafic, tried to interpret what she saw. The pod wanted her to do something. Press a button, activate a routine. Something like that. She stared at the strange letters and tried to remember them, then looked for a fitting button on the panel itself.

“Okay,” Cheh said and started running around around the escape pod. Clothing, she’d said, but with helmets. Maybe she wanted the helmets in case they crashed, so their heads would be protected. Running around he approached a section of wall that had weird symbols running down it, maybe a different language.

There was a piece of metal on the wall, but nothing else. Cheh touched it, but the thin metallic piece glowed red.

“Fingerprint scanning required,” a voice spoke over the intercom and Cheh looked at the strip. Fingerprint scanning? Looking at the pieces of stone shattered across the ground Cheh stomped and punched them in the direction of the metallic strip. The rock pieces smashed the strip to pieces, and the wall slid open to reveal five people.

No, those weren’t people. They were really thick clothes, made from some sort of armour, and the helmet was made from glass. Glass? What protection was a glass helmet?

“I think I found them!” Cheh called out, bringing one out and trying to give it to Jessy. “They look nothing like I’ve seen before.”

There. The button looked slightly similar, yes it bore the same symbol. Hopefully that pod was programmed with as much security protocols than the ones she was used to. It would reducs the chance that she killed them. Taking a deep breath she pressed the button and some of the lights turned green.

"Emergency landing protocol started."

Turning around she saw Cheh holding a suit in his hands.

"Perfect."

Rushing over to him she tried to figure out how to open it. Huge, heavy, not like the slender, practical armor she was used to. Didn't matter. They had to work with what they had. Finally it was open and she held it out for Cheh to climb into.
