I wonder if knowing something about the secret counts as illegal information in Cams book. . .

Now, I know Cam knows a lot, but does he know this? Voidus is pretty powerful.

Tena was probably wherever Deteca was unless otherwise specified.

Yes, Tena is with the rest of us. Is she going to do or say anything, or just hang out?

He got a message from Zokora stating more words from the scientist and he almost unconsciously displayed them as a hologram for the others to see.

Deteca looked at the hologram as Lusk added something to it. She read it, then frowned. "What is this?"

He probably wouldn't know the actual secret, but he can still write you up for hours of seminars and workshops on information security if someone points out that you know something that people want to keep secret.

Aylitha heard them talk about the bunker, and looked at Mac. "We should be able to find him," she said. "Getting underground shouldn't be an issue with spatial manipulation, as long as we have a rough area to aim for." She smiled. "And I," she said, "should be able to take care of the searching." She lifted her hand, and slowly touched the table with her index finger, and a small wave of black bugs spread out from it. The backs of some of them opened up, revealing eyes.

Lusk saw the bugs and casually stepped away from the table. Tapping Atium, his body changed from the old man he’d been to someone younger, someone with less experience with bureaucracy, but more with combat and tactics. His posture straightened from a hunch to upright and his mostly grey hair shifted to black. His muscles became more pronounced than faded, and his demeanour and tone of voice quickly morphed from the calm and firm man he’d been to a younger him, someone who was used to getting things done, no matter the cost.

“Well, we’ve made plans, now it’s time to storming enact them,” he gestured around, to Didgeridoo, to their surroundings. “This meeting is nice and all, but let’s get to it, alright? There isn’t a second to waste when the city’s at stake. You,” he pointed to Aylitha. “Those bugs are rusting creepy, pardon my Nalthian, but they’re efficient, and right now we need efficient. Get them wherever you can, alright?”

He cracked his knuckles as a TUBA girl asked him a question, about what exactly he’d shown on the hologram. “It’s information,” he said bluntly. “Our friends at PlasmaCore found a scientist, and from what it looks like here, it confirms our suspicions. The Vortex is going to explode, and even the scientists themselves don’t know how to rusting dismantle it. So that leaves us to do it.”

He clapped his hands. “Alright! Chop chop, let’s get this Ajax cremling out of our city, and let’s make our move before he decides to make his. Meeting dismissed.”

He looked to Aylitha and the bugs. “Uh, no offence intended with ‘cremling,’ miss.”

Aylitha nodded. "Sure," she said. She turned to Mac. "Can you bring me there?" She asked. "I can work better close to the location. Also, if possible, drop me off close to a slaughterhouse or butcher. I need raw materials for this."

While she was talking the bugs crawled and flew back to her, crawling back into her body as they got reabsorbed.

"I can kill people," Tena said. "Correction: I'm rather good at killing people. So wherever that's needed, I will gladly service."

“Well,” Lusk began. “Wherever Ajax is, he probably has his little army with him. That’s probably a good place to start killing people.”

The lady with the bugs reabsorbed them and Lusk averted his gaze again. He had no idea what Investiture she had, though if he felt like he could age back to a teenager where he’d have been able to identify even the rarest magics, but right now he only had one goal, and that didn’t involve knowing what people’s powers were.

It would probably look similar to an Epic power. What she's doing is basically shapeshifting combined with mass storage, with a bit of hive-mind thrown in.

Of course, her actual ability is completely different and relies mostly on alien biology.

@MacThorstenson

Mac grinned at Lusks discomfort. Bioscience could do some absolutely amazing things with their tech. Twas a pity he didn’t have access to their info.

“Yes, I should be able to” He started. Pulling out a pen, he idly tapped it and twirled it. “I seem to remember there being one close by,” quickly he glanced through the alleys, but while he was thinking, he switched the tapping of the pen into alleycant, messaging the other DA leaders that they should meet up to organize forces and discuss a few other things. “Yes there is one close to the rim of the city, easily within walking distance for a person.”

Lusk spotted Mac grinning and he narrowed his eyes at him, not having the patience nor the diplomacy of his older self. But before he could say anything unwise he forced himself to pay attention to the current task, looking back to the hologram, finally shutting it off and stuffing it in his pocket.

“We all understand our jobs?” He asked to the group, just to get confirmation.

Eiran took a sip of tea before answering. "Well enough." Neither place was somewhere he could go and still be in a shape to be useful, he knew that and was grateful to an extent for his weakness.

"I'll reorganize the evacuation order," he said to Deteca. "Explosion pattern isn't going to work with Ajax being outside of the city. "Invert the fortune cookie" style will likely be more efficient."

He nodded to the Ghostblood and stood up. "If anything major changes future-wise, I'll let Deteca know and she can contact you all."

Then he picked up his now empty cup and put it in the sink. After a moments internal debate, he washed it to save someone else the bother later.

You ever write the word 'city' instead of 'sink'? No? I thought so. Must be just me then :P

They are at the second to top floor of the Plasma Core building. The Vortex is close by, but as it sucks up all Investiture, they are keeping some distance right now. A scientist stumbled out of a room next to Vortex, and told them, that the Vortex needs a constant supply of Investiture to sustain itself. He doesn't know how to disable it though. He also 'delivered' the information, that Lord Ajax, the leader of Plasma Core created the Vortex to create an army of monsters. Finally he wants to take over different worlds, but decided to start with the AV, as it has an unstable leadership, and seemed like an easy target.

Mike has no real idea what to do now, but is happy to talk about different ideas what to do about the Vortex. He sent all information to Zokora/ Lusk, who shared them as well, so that hopefully most characters know the things I detailed above.

@Sorana

Mike noticed her glance and shrugged.

"Don't ask me. I have no idea what to do with such a thing."

He looked back at the scientist and then at the Vortex.

"If it needs Investiture to sustain itself, maybe cutting it off will help, or it will explode in our faces. But as I have no idea how to do that, we can't try it out."

Worried he sighed and rubbed his face.

"And maybe trying things out blindly isn't the best course of action anyway. Maybe it's better to retreat to a room close by and lock the door, in case something else comes out of it. Or we throw something at it, see what happens. I don't know."

Wes wrapped his cloak further around him.

“Yeah, it’s strange. I’ve never seen something like it before. But he was just an underling, maybe the higher up Ghostbloods knew what this was and how to deal with it. He took a tinfoil package out of his pocket and unwrapped it, revealing some cookies. Eating one he quickly stored the nutrition and calories into a bendalloymind. He turned to Seom and Mike and offered it.

“Do you guys want some cookies?”

Voidus watched Lusk for a few seconds more after he called the meeting to an end, or more accurately after he'd dismissed them all. On the one hand, having someone who knew who he was and was still willing to try to dismiss him was a welcome sign that perhaps his deification hadn't spread quite as widely as feared, but on the other hand he'd dismissed not just Voidus personally, but the entire DA, and that after issuing them with orders.

Eventually he shrugged, turning towards the other department heads from the DA. In the end they would do what they thought was best, if that coincided with the plans that others made for now then it would help show the other guilds that the DA could be team players when they wished.

A small spike spun between his fingers as he mused the matters over, he noticed Mac's message and replied in kind.

Agreed. We need to bring these 3 back to the Alleys in any event.

His gaze slid over towards where the other three members from the DA were gathered. He tried to keep his expression as neutral as possible, it wouldn't do to give any hints to others like Mac who may have been growing suspicious.

We can discuss things there.

He held up a hand towards the three and crooked a finger, beckoning them closer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The meeting seemed to have adjourned, and the building and all occupants within seemed to somehow avoid destruction. A minor miracle all things considered. Though there were still some outstanding issues, chief among them being how they were supposed to improve communications to avoid needing to meet up like this again. But perhaps they were concerned with something else tapping any communications?

She shook her head once again, the decision wasn't hers to make one way or the other. She'd finished the job she'd been asked to do, now maybe she could go back and continue on some safer research. Or possibly study this Vortex that they'd discovered, it might prove particularly interesting if their description was anything to go by. Chaotic surges of Investiture that hurled out seemingly random manifestations? It didn't sound too dissimilar to the bane given to her by the Nightwatcher, though on a much larger scale of course. And given some of the things that had come out she had to assume there was some level of control over it as well. Or direction at least.

She sidled up to Lita, about to ask for her thoughts on the meeting when she saw that Voidus was looking towards them again. She shivered as she felt the gaze, it was somehow piercing with intensity while also freezing with indifference.

Time to face... whatever it is I did I suppose?

She paused mid-stride and audibly gulped. Unsure of what she'd done or what was waiting for her but sure that whatever it was it wouldn't be good.

"Shall we?" She whispered low to Lita.

The Vortex sparked, absorbing the metalmind.

Then a small ratlike creature flew out.

***

In the distance, the Alleystorm howled over the land.

It would arrive soon, bringing masses of investiture to the city.

And when it did...

The Vortex would be unstoppable.

Aylitha nodded to Mac. "Thanks," she whispered. "Open up a path for me, please." A few beetles crawled out of her hand. "Take these with you," she said. "Keep one, give the rest to other important personnel. I can use them to keep in contact."

Standing up, she walked to the door. "I'll call when I find something," she said to the people in the room. Outside, she walked into the nearest alley.

KanMien saw Voidus motion at Lita, Laurelai and them, and slightly tilted their head, wondering what was going on. Putting down their teacup they walked towards him and the other heads, stopping in front of them.

Lita turned at Laurelai’s voice, mind still full of a thousand questions and twice as many guesses. She nodded, keeping her expression neutral and calm.

It’s just a guess, and there’s no telling what could happen to you if you ended up being right. This was the kind of secret that got people like Lita very, very killed. She herself had arranged hits for less, back in Elendel.

”Ready or not,” Lita whispered back, stepping towards Voidus and the other two Department heads.
