I personally believe in the 16th pancake.

I don't think I have ever cried during Cosmere (Elhokar got me close though. I'm all for Elhokar being a terrible king, but killing him in the middle of his oath was a low blow). However, I did cry during one noncosmere part:

Spoiler

The last page of Alcatraz 5, because I stopped at the last page and didn't go past the footnotes (I was on the Kindle version).

also, Honorable Non-Cosmere mention for A Memory of Light

That was one of my favorite scenes in any book ever.

Tis not my favorite, because it made me too emotional

Personally, I love when books make me cry.

Not any of the emotional scenes but just one from today: I'm currently rereading Mistborn Era 1 and was really, really close to crying when Vin said to Kelsier that she would like to see flowers one day.

If we are going non-Cosmere then the scene in Rithmatist where

Spoiler

Joel goes into the chamber finally to become a Rithmatist and it has no effect. He'd studied his whole life, pondering the question of what-if and it turns out that nothing changes.

I don't really cry at books; at least I have yet to.  Sometimes a movie will get me, but something about books is just a degree too far removed to get me to actually cry.  Not to say that there haven't been a ton of great emotional moments.

Rereading MB Era 1 and:

Spoiler

When Kelsier shows his scars to the crowd of Ska and says "The Lord Ruler can't kill me; he already tried and failed."  I realized upon the second reading that he's referring to himself as "hope", just like he does before he dies.  He knows that he will likely be killed, but understands the importance in what he's doing and that what he instills in the people can never be killed.

Also for SA:

Spoiler

When Dalinar visits the Night Mother and wants to forget everything he did.

I didn't cry, but I just felt really bad about the whole Mare deal, when Wax mentions once that there is a flower called "Marewill" in Shadows of Self, maybe.

Same with me in Rithmatist, except

Spoiler

The fact he saw what Rithmatists see in the inception, but wasn't chosen himself.

I, for sure, thought it was going to happen but in true Sanderson fashion he threw us a curveball!

Ha, he throws plenty of those! The entirety of reading Skyward, I tried to guess what was going to happen... but never could!

What part did you not get? For Sanderson I thought Skyward was pretty mild on the curveball scale. Very good, but not particularly surprising (other than Doomslug. He is a total wild card.)

  • The axe took off Elend's head.
  • He clutched the book, that matchless work of art, and held it out. Then he dropped it into the flames.
  • "Almighty, Oh Almighty..." The king ... The king was Dalinar's Tien.
    • This was the man he wanted to be. ... Strength before weakness. ... "You. Will. Not. Have. Him."
  • "Tell me," Wax said, voice cracking and rough from his shouting. "Tell me, kandra."
    • "I killed her," Wax whispered, squeezing his eyes closed. "I killed her again."
  • He looked at Kaladin, then quietly made the Bridge Four salute, wrists tapped together. The spear he held dripped with Elkohar's blood.
  • He closed his eyes, breathing out, listening to a sudden stillness. And within it a simple, quiet voice. A woman's voice, so familar to him. I forgive you.

I'll be honest, I was pretty sure that was a stress induced hallucination

spoilers ahead

Every time that Elhokar dies, it just kinda makes me sad. Not crying, but just sad, because I mean that guy was about to get such a cool redemption arc! I really wanted to see him change, and become someone better than he was, and storming Moash came and killed him

Also in Mistborn: Secret History, watching Leras die was really kinda sad, just to see him devolve and slowly die.

Oh, and one last one! When Shallan tries to soulcast Stick into fire, I laughed so hard I started to cry, then actually cried because Shallan actually thought she could soulcast Stick, but she can’t, and is a complete and utter failure in that regard:P

Doomslug was the best part of the entire book!

I would definitely cry if...

Spoiler

He wasn't in the next book... or he dies....

I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT AS A POSSIBILITY!!! (actually my theory is that doomslug is the biological component)
