“Sure, Doc can get you a gun,” Rob said. He looked at her blankly, sitting up on his mattress.

“Now that you mention it,” he said, allowing himself to relax. It was easy to relax around Ashlyn, he didn’t feel he had to closely guard his feelings. At least, not more than he did with anyone else. But he kept the neutral face. “Yeah, it does smell like pancakes. Must be... Flid, Leona or Shana. They’re good at cooking.” Unsure what to say he changed the subject.

He shrugged, face blank. “Shame about those Voidbringers. They completely crashed Prom night.”

"Seriously, I barely got to eat any food." Ashlyn says, a real smile touching her face, the first after last night. "If we're being honest though, I'm kind of glad it happened. Without it I don't know if I would have ever learned about... all this. I'm still not sure what to call it."

Shana grabbed another pancake and took a bite.

"Do we have a plan what to do next? Apart from homework I mean?"

She considered her own words.

"What do you think of capturing a Voidbringer and try to free them?"

Flid paused, and thought about it.

"It could be possible, to trap it. Maybe using cohesion, or soulcasting, maybe adhesion. Freeing them though, I'm not sure how that would work."

He took another bite.

"I suppose it's worth a try." James said shrugging, "But whatever happens, I'll support you."

He got up, and put his empty plate in the sink. "Now if you'll excuse me," he said, "I've got some thinking to do"

"Something on your mind? Or you just in a philosophical mood?"

"I'll lean on the simple side, and just say 'yes" James said, and went back to his room.

Okay.

"If we built somewhere to trap them," Cassie thought out loud, "and then someone teleported them in..." Maybe I could do that, now.

Flid blinked, then shrugged, dropping the matter.

"How would we transport them? You and Edwin are still first ideal, and Leenie's- wait, Leenie is third ideal now so we could test it." Flid mused.

"Well," Cassie said, drawing out the word. "I'm not actually at the First Ideal anymore. I went to James, to the Nightwatcher, and asked her to bring me up to the Fifth Ideal. So. Um. Now I'm that, I guess...I haven't really tried anything."

Flid blushed. "Well, there aren't many ways to shorten Leona!"

Call her Leo, that'll go over well

Doc frowned. "Look, I think is a bad idea. If it was possible to 'free' a Voidbringer, then someone probably would have done it by now. Even if we did 'free' one, who's to say that their personality would be any different from before. Their bond isn't what makes them do what they do. Think about it. We bond spren because we exemplify the traits that the spren are attracted to. Who's to say that the Voidbringers are any different than us, how we attract a spren and bond it?"

"But, what if that's not the case? So much of what we know is just speculation. And if that is the case, what if they regret their actions? What if they don't want to be a voidbringer? How does it feel to be one of those? What if Voidbringers literally possess them? We have no idea, we should try to find out." Flid responded.

"So, you're the 5th ideal now? If that's your boon, then what's your curse? It must be a pretty big one to balance that out."

Leona rolled her eyes. “It’s three syllables. Why bother shortening it?” she asked Flid.

Turning to Cassie she asked, “And, Cassie, you thought this was a good idea why exactly?”

"I dunno, it's a thing couples do to show their- uh, affection"

Craaapp, too forward.

Why do you overreact at these things? She accepted your invitation to dance, she obviously likes you.

Shana looked Doc straight in the eyes.

"You said you don't know. We saw these crystals influence innocents. Or they just made a bad decision."

She shook her head.

"Are we willing to bet their lives, on a vague, nobody probably tried? I don't think I am."

Smiling at Cassie she showed her a thumbs up.

"Congratulations on the fifth oath."

Although something felt off. To advance just like that? By asking? There was a nagging thought in the back of her head, that there had to be a catch.

Doc sighed, rubbing his eyes. “I suppose you’re right, and even if I object, you might go around my back and do it anyway. And if something bad happens…” he trailed off, “But we should do some research before we start planning the capture and possible torture of a Voidbringer.”

"But that's not fair. Your name is only one syllable."

He grinned

See? I told you. Shut it.

"Actually, my full name is Flidmir, so you've been using a nickname this entire time! So, it's only fair I give you a nickname, Leo."

Flid shrugged.

"I don't know. I googled it one time, but all I found was this old guy named Vladimir the great."

Bliss buzzed at that, although Flid didn't know why.

"And, if you don't want me to call you nicknames, I won't."
