"I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" James said with a laugh.

Ben beamed. Janes wanted to be his friend! That was certainly new. He hadn’t made a new friend since...

He shook his head, clearing it. He would not let the past ruin this new friendship. Not again.

Starting to feel like James might be one of the only ones without a tragic past. He's just genuinely a good guy who wants to help people grow.

I mostly just had the tragic past so he could have been “broken” to allow him to have a spren bond.

I did the same at first, but then as I thought about it more it grew and I really like his backstory now

Edwin got back to the house with a bag full of junk food from... Where had he bought it? He didn't remember, it was a place he'd never visited before. Maybe he had overdone it a bit with the walk. He knew the vicinity perfectly by now, it had to be pretty far if he hadn't recognized the store. No use thinking too much about it, he was here and it was Saturday, video games seemed like the perfect plan.

As he made his way towards the stairs the noise from the living room caught his attention. Was that The Fellowship of the Ring?

"Change of plans, Twin." he said and entered the living room, leaving the bag on the table at the center. It would serve the same purpose here.

"It is odd that such a disorganized and emotional fellowship can be expected to accomplish anything.  Much less a mission of critical importance."

Flid laughed. "Aren't we a disorganized and emotional fellowship? And yet we protect people from the Voidbringers." Flid waved to Edwin. "Hey, what's in the bag?"

"Hmm a point.  But what about us makes our disorganized group more able to protect people then other disorganized groups?  Most are less then impressive."

"Easy, we have Super Powers. And Doc."

"I have yet to evaluate Doc's effectiveness but as Clark's third law notes magic is identical to superior technology and plenty of people have superior technology.  Are you saying that the billions spent on organizing the militarily, governments and police departments are a wast and that a tech solution would solve all the problems these individuals face?"

"They, through no fault of their own, have inferior tools at their disposal. We have magical swords that can cut through anything, magic impenetrable armor, and the ability to fly, create a cake from play-doh, etc, while they can shoot some metal really hard and somewhat strong armor. They just can't compete."

“I disagree,” Rob said, walking towards where everyone was. “No amount of Radiancy can replicate an atomic bomb, or even defend against one. Surges can’t imitate a space shuttle, or so many other things.”

He looked up. “And what’s the Lord of the Rings?”

Flid took a deep breath. "Sobasicallyitsthisbigbookseriesthatgotturnedintoamovieandwell,simplifiedtherewasthisevilguywhotrickedanelfintomakingabunchofmagicringsandthebadguystolethemandtherewasawarandthestrongestringgotsentawayandaweirdlittleguygotitandheturnedintoagrossthingcalledgolemandafewhundredyearslaterorsomethingashortguygotit,didsomeotthersutffandgaveittohisnephewandhehastodestroytheevilring. I think that's a good summary."

"Oh you know, lots of chips, chocolates, one or two sodas. The usual. They were for a game I was going to finish tonight but one doesn't watch this every day. Short or long versions?"

"Evil guy made ring, a nice short guy got it, gave it to his nephew to go destroy it. Oh sweet, thanks Edwin! It's the extended versions."

“That seems like a very short story for all of those movies,” Rob mentioned. “Especially if there as long as you say.”

Flid shrugged and grabbed a cookie. "That was a very dumbed down version. There is a lot more stuff to it."

Rob nodded, sitting down. “Fantasy is weird,” he said. He’d never understood all that stuff about magic and powers.”

"Yeah," replied Leona, "But that's why I like it. It's a chance to escape from reality. Now shut up and watch the movie."

She snatched a cookie off the table.

those are not good for you....

She decided to not respond to that.

Ben and Shana are next to each other, as are Luther and Flid. I dunno where on the couch, though.
