The figure went on.

These Narrators are the ones that created this world, and every other world in this set. They tell a story, and that story is us.

Usually, the Narrators don't let their characters know that they are being Narrated. But sometimes, on occasion, something slips. And that's when we get called in.

A voice echoes through the room saying, “Mime! I need your services! The Fourth Wall has been broken! If you want, bring the girl, teach her”

The figure looked at Pheonix, who shrugged and snapped his fingers. Instantly, they all vanished.

To TLT, I guess.

Narrator Pheonix smiled faintly. "You can blame me. I'm the one that convinced him to let you listen in on my study sessions."

The figure spoke up. If we had wanted you to forget, you would have forgotten already. That's what repairing the fourth wall is all about; fixing the memories of the characters, making them forget. To do that, you need to master silence.

"Hmm... It's amazing."

The figure stared off into space, eyes going unfocused. Silence is a powerful thing. A very powerful thing. Like "talking", silence extends beyond the realm of physical air vibrations and into the abstract. In essence, it is the cessation of idea transferral- when ideas are not being passed from place to place. But that's not all; when you have truly mastered silence, you can not only invoke silence, but what lies beyond silence- the power to transfer the removal of an idea. To make others forget.

It is this method that I use to speak, although the mechanics are much more complicated. So complicated, in fact, that even those who master beyond silence often cannot figure out how to do it.

He paused, and sighed. Of course, not many mimes make it to even there. It requires a special blend of dedication and talent that most can never hope to achieve. You, however... he turned, and spoke directly to Zeoy. You show promise. You're already the most talented I've seen in years; if you put in the dedication you need, you could surpass even me in power.

Zeoy paled, though a warm feeling surged in her chest. "I'm not a hero," she said. "I can't do anything but mix drinks."

Narrator Pheonix laughed. "Careful. People who say that tend to get caught up in large, epic adventures."

The figure nodded. Very true. But, moving on. Usually at this point, I would instruct my students to stay in silence for a month, to get in touch with their inner silence. For you two, I think, it will not take as long.

The instructions are simple. Become silent. Say no words, make no noise- don't even think, if you can manage it. Wait that way until you feel the silence beginning to creep in.

Zeoy thought for a moment. Part of her job at the Happy Inquisitor was talking to people. Usually, when someone came to her for a drink, it was more than just intoxication they wanted. What was she without her words? Hadn't she been trying to teach herself to break her own silence? But then... what power could she find there in the emptiness? Did she really just want to sit and let old memories fester in the back of her mind?

She felt at the bracelets on her wrists - metalminds. Sometimes, she would fill them when she got bored. But she never tapped them. Not unless it was absolutely necessary. She didn't want to know that part of her. Didn't want to be forced to look in the mirror. Silence could do that to her.

"I don't know," she said, voice quiet.

Narrator Pheonix opened one eye to look at her, noticing her copperminds for the first time.

He snapped his fingers, and a copper armband appeared floating in the air in front of Zeoy.

Written on it was this inscription:

Try using this. I think it will help.

She looked at it floating there. Innocent and shinning. Full of something. Hesitantly, she took it in her fingers, prodding gently at the storage within. She closed her eyes, hanging her head. She couldn't do it. "I can't," she said, not to anyone in particular. "I'm sorry."

Kay.

Zeoy began to fill the metalmind. The memories were a little hard to summon and the pain of remembering her own brokenness put her off guard. It was hard to remember, but hard to let go of as well. Honestly, she didn't even understand her own feelings about it. Perhaps she never would. She wasn't sure she wanted to.

Narrator Pheonix closed his eyes, turned off his hearing, and let his brain go silent.

...
...
...
...
After a while, he became aware of a sensation coming upon him, absent of meaning- and yet, somehow full of meaning at the same time.
It was the pause at the end of a sentence.
It was the rest at the end of the symphony.
It was the break in a conversation.
It was Silence, pure and untainted, a calming and soothing influence.
Pheonix opened his eyes. "I felt it," he said, then turned to Zeoy to see how she was doing.
