It's 100 percent on purpose, and the central plot of that book and the entire Shadows series is focused around that. And to be honest, Orson Scott Card is one of the few authors who is even in the same universe as Brandon Sanderson. Give it a reread. And don't read like you're expecting it to be bad. 1
