He wouldn't obviously be second in command, but I get it because of his super-armor. Wood, if you keep dodging Hellbent will just leave.

Hellbent jumped up, grabbing the thing with the fabrial, and twisted.

Also, it is unfair, and you will stop doing damage. He has spren made shardplate he can summon at will, and the Ghostbloods have more shardplate. Also, if Hellbent can't fight: "Giant Death Creatures" come out,

If they're occupying the city that's probably going to happen anyway. The literal core of the universe is there and the DA can be a little protective of that.

Althea pulled her water skin out of her bag and handed it over to Max.
Voidbringer, well she had been called worse and the fact, that he hadn't tried to kill her yet, combined with the thumbs up - she filed his reaction away in the "alright" section and then turned to Ko Tiel.
"Personally I follow the Council. I am here because of the alliance and I will support Hellbent, or Dwig as long as the Council wants me to do so."
Smiling at Max she added,
"But, I am no friend of unneccessary fighting. It's too messy and leaves to many casualities. Judging from the direction they went, they could be close to the Alleycity now, and that means there's civilians added to the calculation. An open battle is neither my style, nor am I really good at it. So if we can find a way to stop all that our way, I would support it."

Jonas was not an ethical man.

At age 18, the Seven Day War was still a year away.

That was when Shelan had found him.

On a passing mission through Scadrial to obtain a power, Shelan had recruited Jonas, trained him.

Given him a spike.

Then, he promptly trapped him in a cadmium bubble, that was set to deactivate in several years.

He had been let out around the end of the 16-year peace, but 17 years was a long time. Not in the bubble, though. In there, a year had passed.

Well, you taught me how to do this, Shelan. Jonas thought, placing a new spike, claiming a new power.

"Interesting. More Pewter, I guess."

He downed another vial and tested the Elsecaller fabrial he had obtained prior.

He appeared in a dark place... There was no sun...

Oh, wait.

That was the Fiend's foot.

Jonas was crushed to death promptly, though the Fiend would limb laboriously on that foot for a long while.

***

Zaren blasted himself across the city. Dozens of little lines guided him, and he landed in the control room of the Fiend.

"Hi."

Wait, Jonas is dead? That’s a shame, I liked him. At least you made the Fiend limp though. That will be valuable.

Max thought. The Ghostblood woman was prepared to help him if it meant stopping the Fiend, and Max respected that. A similar situation like this happened 16 years ago. And it had killed Max’s parents and left him orphaned.

It left Mara orphaned too, a voice reminded him. Yes. It had left Mara orphaned too, though even thinking of her nowadays hurt Max.

The Ghostblood woman - Althea, he thought her name was, passed him a waterskin. Nodding appreciatively, Max hesitantly lifted his helmet off of his head and poured the water down his -

SCREAMS YOUR INSANE YOUR INSANE SCREAMS YOU LET MARA DIE SCREAMS YOUR INSANE YOUR INSANE SCREAMS YOU LET MARA DIE SCREAMS YOUR INSANE YOUR INSANE SCREAMS YOU LET MARA DIE SCREAMS YOUR INSANE YOUR INSANE SCREAMS YOU LET MA-

With a scream Max dropped to the ground, yelling. The waterskin slipped out of his hands as fumbled on the ground, his hands trying to blindly reach for the helmet.

SCREAMS YOUR INSANE YOUR INSANE SCREAMS YOU LET MARA DIE SCREAMS YOUR INSANE YOUR INSANE SCREAMS YOU LET MARA DIE

Found it. Max quickly slid the helmet over his head and the voices faded away. Gasping for breath, Max realised he was sweating. Or was that tears?

The voices. They’d gotten worse. It had started ever since the duel, ever since Mara died. Max didn’t know whether it was his own trauma or just the mental impact he’d left on himself by Rioting Atticus, but either way, the voices never stopped. It was only through the calming Aons on Max’s helmet that he could escape them, and when the voices had grown strong enough to penetrate even that, he’d had Mara’s and his armours fused together. With double the power of calming Aons it seemed Max could live in peace again.

But, obviously, the voices had still been growing stronger. Max couldn’t even take off his helmet now, it seemed.

Turning, Max saw Althea and the Kandra were looking at him. The waterskin lay on the ground, spilled.

“Sorry,” He said through the visor of his helmet. “Can you teleport us to the Fiend, I think I’ve got a plan. How many Elantrian’s do you know?”

Ooh, this is cool. Max can’t take off his armour otherwise he goes insane - or is he already insane?

Althea stared at Max and then slowly picked up the waterskin. He ignored what had happened and so she decided to go along with that.

"I can't teleport, we can either walk through Shadesmar or..."

She looked over at Ko Tiel.

"Do you have a way to get us to the Fiend? Preferably a some miles in front of it? I think I have an idea how to stop it or at least slow it down. Combine that with the Elantrians - maybe we can hinder it from reaching the city."

Turning back to Max she added:

"I know a few. Where do you need them?"

"If there are any alleys there, I can get us there. Otherwise, I can also use Dakhor, but for that Id need a sacrifice." KoTiel told Althea.

They've seen me, Max thought, looking as Althea stared. Oh, God, they think I'm insane, that I'm crazy. I'm not crazy, am I? I don't want them to think I'm crazy. It hit him that Althea was probably used to stares, what with her eyes, and it made Max feel a little bad he was using that to comfort him.

"It's AlleyCity," Max said, regaining his composure. "There's bound to be a few alleys here and there. There's also these:" Max held up three of the one-time teleporters Dusk had given them. He'd given them to the trio on the condition that they would stay out of the war, but obviously that wasn't going to happen. Throwing one to the Kandra and one to Althea, he went over the plan in his head again.

"I need the Elantrians just south of the city, that's where the Fiend's headed, I think. When you have them all in one place, I'll give the signal of what to do. How long do you think you'll take rounding them up? Kandra, I want you to go with Althea. Hopefully with your Alleyhopping ability you two can round up enough enough Elantrians where we need them to be. When your done, send me a signal. I'll be distracting the Fiend."

Closing his eyes and holding the one-time teleporter in his hand, Max pressed the button and visualised this target. The Fiend. He didn't teleport inside of it, it wasn't possible, but he did teleport on top of it.

"Hey, Dusk!" He shouted as the wind suddenly roared in his face. "I'm here! Do you want to stay in your machine or are you going to right me?"

Althea pocketed the device Max had given her and looked at Brashen. He answered her glance rather unhappy, knew what she wanted him to do.

"Go to (redacted). Tell them I need everybody able to use Aons south of the Alleycity asap. You know my passphrase and what is needed to identify yourself. This task is priority 1, they are to stop any non critical operations. They should contact the team focused on sellish research, maybe they can help as well. And tell them to bring me more spheres."

She turned to Ko Tiel:

"I'll follow you. To the Alleycity first, if possible."

Concentrating she brought them back into the physical realm, putting on her sunglasses again.

Are we planning on using the teleport devices to go to the city? I'm not sure there are a lot of alleys left around the tower after that bomb.

Also, going to be offline for a few hours.

KoTiel blinked at the sudden light, and looked at the aftermath of the explosion. "Take you back to the Alleycity," they said. "Sure, but there is the small issue that the explosion destroyed the alleys I could use to get away from this place. Should we use these devices instead?" They asked Althea.

Sorry Darth, but giant things headed for AlleyCity is not good for Mejin's minor PTSD

Running. Searching. Scrambling.

A shout. Rushing.

Another scream.

Tino...where are you?

Holding him - but no time to keep searching.

To abandon? No other choice.

But the pain, the indecision.

What to do?

Mejin winced at the flood of memories from years ago, She couldn't stay here.

"So let's go," Lei told her and she nodded.

Pulling out a scrap of paper, Mejin wrote out a hasty note and placed it carefully on the ground. This way she at least could say she tried when in reality Mejin knew no one would glance down and see her message.

She and Lei entered Shadesmar unsure of where they'd go next.

Tena clapped in beat to 'We are the Champions' by Queen during Hellbent and that Dusk cat's duel. "I knew giving my support to the insane guy always pays in the end," she muttered. "Look at him! Such a boss. But really, who wouldn't be with an honorary like 'Nightshade'? So good." She leaned back and tapped the skywhale's hide with her index finger, staying in rhythm, as always.

Althea looked around, only now really taking in how much the place was destroyed.

"Of course."

She took the device in her hand.

"Central marketplace? Or maybe at the southern gates?"

"Central marketplace?" KoTiel answered. "I think there are more alleys around that place. It'll make an easier starting point."

Dwig groaned, he was tired of war. But, he would do what had to be done, for the good of the people. He tapped speed and ran, becoming a blur. After running for a while, he activated the nail gun and fired a shot. The nail slowed to a crawl as soon as it left the gun. Dwig power jumped, getting about 15 feet into the air. He pushed on the nail, launching himself in an arc. As he Pushed, the nail barely moved, as he was tapping a ton of speed. He continued to rise into the air. As soon as he was high enough, he fired the nail gun again, launching another projectile behind himself. He Pushed on that, continuing to do this until he got to the Alleycity.

Althea nodded.
"See you there."
she activated the device and concentrated on the central market square.

When she arrived there, she felt like she had been turned inside out. She was used to transfering to Shadesmar, but this, this was something else. Taking deep calming breaths she started to write some messages and waited for Ko Tiel to arrive.

Seeing Althea vanish, KoTiel activated the device as well, and teleported to the central market square. "Well, that felt horrible," they said, after the world stopped spinning. "Were do we need to go now?"

Posted

"Definitly."
Althea finished her notice and put it away.
"I can't tell you where exactly our hideouts are. So I can't take you there."
she answered hesitantly.
"I need to go to the merchants quarter first, then to the one closest to the southern gate. But that's as much as I can tell you, I'm sorry."

Posted

"..." KoTiel thought for a bit. "Well, I guess I also can't tell you how alley travel works either, so that's alright." They told Althea. "The merchants quarter you say? Alright. Follow me, and make sure you stick to me closely. You don't want to be alone in the alleys when not a denizen, here so close to the worldspike." With that, KoTiel walked into the nearest alley.
