Hey guys, Gancho here,

I'd like to ask all of you, when you all are making your posts, to leave any misspelling or grammatical errors you make on your first draft.

That way, my newest character can make fun of you for it.

Thanks!

Is this Canton of Combat or Contest of Champions? I’m assuming constest, but just wanted to clarify.

Contest of Champions
Canton of Combat I meant to cover with the section on guild threads.
Sorry, forgot how confusing that acronym can be.

For the summaries: I'd suggest to spread it out over as much people as possible, and since many have volunteered I think that should work.

For the summary thread: what do you think of this: everybody that is responsible for a thread makes a post with all of his/ her threads. Maybe a one sentence summary below the name. (E.g. City of Oasis - A city ruled by the Ghostbloods, their headquater). Then we add the longer summary below behind a spoiler tag. When we update the summary, we edit our post.

Why? It makes it easy to navigate the summaries and gives newer member a quick overview over all active threads, without having to comb through pages of old summaries and without having to scroll through summaries. Instead you can read what you are interested in. Finished threads I would suggest we add something behind the name like ("closed"/ "finished"/ ...).

I like this idea.

I'd best stop typing posts on my phone then. I wouldn't want this to effect me. Yes, that was intentional.

The citadel is now open. Small city, but I will through the occasional party, and it has a massive mine, for ores and gemstones. So, Jacob, if Silas needs a diamond to give to Ambrosia, you could get it from their.

The summaries are an excellent idea.

Now that we’ve gotten some discussion around Archer’s other suggestions, I think we should codify them and make decisions about what we should implement and when. Rules around guilds will need the most work, I think, but if we can get them right it will be worth it.

I think the best plan of attack is to split the reform into subtopics, then come up with proposals for each that we can debate and vote on if necessary. Setting aside stuff that’s in-game/short term (E2 ending etc), here’s what we’ve covered that we need to come up with proposals for.

Summarization:

No one has objected to this, but if we decide to vote on this next time we restart the poll, I’d recommend asking people this:

Do you support the implementation of the following idea? [put in the OP if it's too large]

For example, it would look like this:

Quote

Archer's Summaries Post:

The Burning Wasteland: The smoldering ruin of a town that underfunded its public services. Adventurers are salvaging for food and robbing the ‘Cursed Objects’ display of the local museum.

Spoiler

Sample Text. (A description of the events of the thread)

The Fire Department: The headquarters of the Alleyverse Fire Department. A brick building where the firemen wait for 911 calls.

Spoiler

Sample Text.

Tom’s Tiki Torches: [finished] A store selling torches and other tools. Run by a guy who should card people more often.

Spoiler

Sample Text.

Options:

A. Yes, I would like this to be implemented.

B. No, I would not like this to be implemented.

Non-Sanderson Stuff:

The sci-fi poll is at a 12-12 tie right now. That's inconvenient. Sci-fi is part of, in my opinion, the broader question of the inclusion of non Sanderson elements in E3. I'd like a decision on that. This is the question I'd recommend asking:

Spoiler

Should the Alleyverse RP allow non-Sanderson elements? (Wheel of Time things are considered to be Sanderson elements.)

A. Yes, the RP should allow magics, technology, and other elements from books, movies, and television shows that have not been written by Sanderson.

B. No, with exceptions on a case-by-case basis for elements the majority of the group would like to include (for example, this could be Warhammer 40K technology).

C. No, the RP should not include non-Sanderson elements.

These next ones I don't have a proposal prepared for. What needs to happen is people take one and come up with a suggestion for a policy we can put in the rules thread. So if you've got some time and want to suggest a code for one of these (or another topic you want to address). Brainstorming is allowed. As is looking back at the conversation that's happened since page 13. I'll try and put something together for stuff no one volunteers to do, but I'll leave this here for now.

Guild Reform: Increased public involvement and connection of characters and guilds.

Power Reduction/Consistency: Reduction of resources and armies available to characters Reduction of character's powers/removal of OP characters. Being realistic.

PvP Combat: Reduction.

Better Planning: Actually planning stuff. With other people. *shivers*

Splitting the parts of the reforms into different threads seems like a good idea, since it lowers the chance of people missing arguments because the debate is currently focused on a different topic. Are you going to create the threads, or should somebody else do it?

What if we just focus on one at a time? We could start with guild reform, finish that, then move on to the next one, keeping it all in this thread. But multiple threads would work too.

Multiple threads seems easier, since it'll allow discussions to move faster and allow us to use ideas from one part of the reforms to affect other parts without having to redo the whole thing later. It'll also make it easier to find the exact details of the discussion, since you wouldn't have to read through 20 pages just to find the conclusion, and it allows you to add to a discussion later on when you've suddenly thought of an issue.

Of course, this will cause a rather large amount of threads to spawn, which can be an issue.

Okay. I'll make a guild reform topic. That seems like it'll lead to a lengthy discussion. The other big one is going to be power reduction. We could probably get away with just discussing that here, then once we have those two nailed down, moving to the other topics. But if you feel we should make another thread for that, I'd support that too.

I think pvp reduction and planning (and maybe power reduction) belong together to some degree, since they impact each other to a fair degree, and because (except perhaps power reduction) they don't really have easy fixes or guidelines/rules that can be created to fix them, unlike the guild reforms (and probably power reductions). I'd also suggest putting the power reduction reforms into a separate thread, both to avoid cluttering up this one, and to allow us to discuss other more generic/smaller topics in here.

Posted

Okay. Can you make that thread for us? I'll feature it, but I want to start collecting quotes from the Chat Thread related to reform so people have something to go on.

Posted (edited)

I was focusing on only guild related stuff, so if you want to do power level reform quotes while you're at it, that'd be fantastic. But tell me if it's too much work and I'll help.
