Ivory kept to the shadows. No one'd notice him there. Then again, he'd doubt the humans would notice or remark on him if they did see him. They'd forgotten so much. They fancied themselves civilized, with their fabrials and their courts and dresses and Shards, yet that arrogance only blinded them more to all they'd lost.

And all that they would yet lose in the coming years. A storm was brewing, and the presence of the stormcrow all but confirmed it. He walked the halls, joking, needling, watching. The same man that had watched the Heralds betray humanity, and the Knights Radiant commit genocide. Oh, he'd saved some of his kind at the time, yet he seemed incapable of a simple warning or important interference. He'd saved a dozen or two spren. He could have saved them all if only he'd warned them.

Ivory reined himself in. This emotion, this...rancor... was unbecoming of one like him.

Jasnah stepped aside, ignoring the present conversation, as she began noticing something no one else seemed to notice. Her shadow started acting slow and strange again. She stepped back for a moment and looked around. That same ebony figure she had seen earlier, when in the strange sea, was observing her from the shadows. Suddenly, Jasnah felt uneasy and anxious again. Stepping back into the circle, she again poised herself and continued on with the conversation. Thankfully, it was turning away from her to more important matters for the night.

While mingling among the guests, Jasnah noticed the Shin man in white again. It appeared he was merely a servent of a foreign diplomat, who was attending this evening as well. So she rested her fears about Szeth Sapphire.

OOC: I didn't mention that last below the dashes is OOC, and everyone thought Jasnah was predicting the future. I was just doing that as a player, not a character, as a fun way to poke vote Szeth, who as of that time had failed to show up. I cannot predict the future.

Elhokar grinned like a madman as he slipped through the hall. Now this... This was a feast! His smile slipped a bit as he remembered the accusations being thrown around.

Throw out the wit? Unthinkable! Throwing out his sister was even worse! And as for the shin... Well, it was a alliance between civilizations. Why not let people stay? Enjoy a taste of Alethi culture, at least for one night.

They Alethi were warlike, true, and used to power games, but nobody needed to be ostracized tonight. Give everyone time to settle down, complete a few goals, and maybe after a few hours they could start wrapping the party up. Nobody needs to be voted out for a while. But that was just his own opinion, of course.

He saw jasnah out of the corner of his eye and nodded to her. She was a heretic, yes. But weren't they all, some of the time? She just declared it more openly. Plus, she was his sister. And Kholins watched out for one another.

Does anybody find it odd that Orlok is Odium in the Docs, but wrote the write-up from Cultivation's viewpoint?

As Elhokar nodded to Jasnah, he took the opportunity to approach him.

"Brother, I find it necessary that I visit the palace Library. There have been events this day that I want to find out more about. If anyone inquires as to my whereabouts, and you deem it to be important that I discuss something with them, do not send them to me. Instead, please send a servant to come find me, so that I may find and address them when I am able to find a break in my studies"

After, Jasnah turned and slipped out of the Grand ballroom. As she passed through the corridors they became more and more empty. Why can people never stay in the designated location for the party? Jasnah wondered to herself, then hipocritically realized that she had also left the party. Bah! This house belongs to my family. I can go wherever I want, whenever I want.

Entering the library, She had already planned out what to search out. In all her years of study, she had never found anything describing a sea of beads. Shadows however, were different. Misbehaving shadows had been documented as signs of being cursed. She would study misbehaving shadows, and their origins.

"Of course, your grace. Tensions run high on a night like this - I'm sure anyone would be a little nervous." (Jasnah Kholin)

Nale moved away from the table, reluctantly accepting a glass of Yellow Wine, in an attempt to 'mingle' - causing a scene would be counter-productive at this stage. Slowly and deliberately, he made the rounds of the ballroom and feasting tables, taking care to avoid being dragged into a conversation wherever possible. Meanwhile, he kept his eyes peeled around him.

It took him nearly an hour to spot it - a flicker in a shadowy corner of the room, so brief that he could almost have imagined it. Almost. Inkspren. Nale had been sure his information was good, but it was still a relief to see the trip wasn't a waste after all. Now, does your 'Herald' have any skeletons in their closet, Inkspren? Because if they do, I'll find them. Slowly, Nale began to weave back across the room, trying to act naturally, and with his eyes surreptitiously scanning the area where he'd seen the Inkspren.

Ivory worried. He'd not proven nearly as elusive as he'd expected to be. Though he was beneath the notice of most, others still noticed him even in the deepest shadows. He kept a more careful watch now, determined to not let another of the humans sneak up on him.  It was thanks to that increased watchfulness that he noticed the one that had abandoned Justice for Law make his way towards him.

Ivory hissed, then quickly started working his way through the shadows away from the former Herald. The man's presence made his given task appear even more foolish, and more desperate. This one herald had done more to damage the cause than any of his brethren, save perhaps Ishar, and Ivory had no intention of treating with the madman.

Following the orders of Gavilar- since there was absolutely nothing I enjoyed more than annoying Sadeas- I followed the three brightlords. The odd thing about the night was how many important individuals were walking around that most of the Alethi elite didn't even realize were there. A handful of heralds, at least one spren, and a shin servant to the parshendi. Today truly was an odd day, and my senses told me to keep my Wit about me. Tensions were unusually high for a feast of all things. This was supposed to be a celebration of the treaty. Odd that no one was really paying attention to the parshendi, who seemed content to mainly mingle with themselves.
Following Ialai Sadeas, who occasionally sent chilling glares back his way, I happened to pass where I had noticed the inkspren.
"You know, you really should just bond someone already. Being mostly in the physical realm without a bond can be fairly dangerous for a spren like you."
I smiled, and walked off before the spren could react, and proceeded to jump into an argument about Jasnah's heresy.
"I'll be frank, I don't blame Jasnah at all. From my experience, religion just gets you in trouble. Both being worshipped and worshipping are highly overrated. It can drive a man insane." I grinned at my own wit. "Now, there are a few people I enjoy talking to who have not appeared as of yet, such as the young @SE_Renarin_Kholin. I hope those individuals will make themselves known unto us so I can point out how silly their fashion choices are." I surreptitiously glanced at Ialai's outfit.

I must say, I quite enjoy the picture that accompanies Wit.

But I do have to ask, why was Ivory associated with Indigo Weasel, and Elhokar associated with Ivory Dragonfly? Why not make it so that Ivory was Ivory and Elhokar was a weasel? (I can say that, he's my younger brother. It's called teasing)

Ialai caught his glance and frowned. These clothes are in style, insufferable man. But it was the nature of this Wit to make all sorts of comments, even those that were clearly incorrect.

She stilled herself, preventing a comment. She had been too antagonistic, placing distrust in the wrong people. And perhaps even Wit could be a valuable ally.

Liss felt that it was about time to take a break from shadowing the nobles and see what the beggars saw from this situation. Just about to go get rid of her platter, she noticed a Shin.

Funny... Reminds me of the servant I had a couple of weeks ago.  I wonder what a Shin is doing here.

Liss walks over to the Shin fellow.

"Brightlord, is there something you need? Why is it you are not enjoying the celibration?

Out of character:

Of course you would say that.  You are playing Nale. And it is unfair.  It makes sense that Jasnah would propose something like that.  As for me, I don't care either way as I am playing Liss.  As long as it doesn't affect me. : )
(Seriously though, I agree.  This game will be a lot less fun if we lynch people based on the book rather than what happens here)

Szeth looked up as Liss approached his part of the room. He hadn't expected to ever see his former master again, especially at a treaty celebration such as this. It made him uneasy. Despite all the care she took to keep her servants from knowing the true nature of her work, it was clear from her secretive nature and traveling patterns that she was an assassin -- she showed many of the traits that Szeth recognized in himself. What business could she have here?

She said something to a Brightlord, who didn't answer. After a few moments of silence, Szeth realized that she was speaking to him.

He bowed his head. "Brightlady, I am only a servant."

Hmph.

Aesudan watched Elhokar completely ignore her greeting. Maybe the rumors were true after all, and Elhokar had multiple wives in secret. He had denied it categorically, of coarse, but the rumors started from somewhere...

Well, maybe there were others to talk to. She needed connections, and she had virtually none. Unfortunately, this meant she would probably have to speak with Wit, who was in the thick of conversation. Aesudan steeled herself.

"@SE_Ialai_Sadeas, how are you on this fine evening?"

Posted

"It's a fine evening, a fine evening indeed. All of Alethkar gathered here, in peaceful celebration no less."

Aesudan noted the wine going around, and motioned for a servant to bring her some. Perhaps a yellow or green to start the night.

"And Elhokar seems to be enjoying himself, yes," she added, casting a sidelong glance at Elhokar, who was working his way around the hall.

Aesudan eyed the stranger who had just arrived. Was it parshendi...? She couldn't tell, since it was just standing there impassively, devoid of any recognizable facial expression. She didn't want to embarass herself by addressing a simple parshman as if it were a person, nor did she want to make the opposite mistake, so she elected to ignore it until somebody else spoke.

Navani spoke, walking up to the Parshendi person It seemed to have a beard with gemstones of all things weaved through it. How odd. Did that mean it was a man?

"Good music, wouldn't you say?" She wasn't sure if the coded language of small-talk would be lost on the creature, but she continued all the more. Relationship building was important on a night like this, and the image of the queen herself conversing with one of the Parsh would be bound to create a greater sense of Unity.

"It's a pleasure talking with your kind," She said honestly, to the Parsh. "I don't think this has ever happened before, and I'm glad our respective civilisations can finally form a treaty on this lovely night."

Navani turned to the drummers, still speaking. "Are you enjoying the arrangements?"

Posted

"Good evening," Sadeas said, nodding toward the Parshendi, who he thought was named Klade. It was difficult though, telling the difference between them. "I do hope you're enjoying the feast."

Elhokar wandered around the hall, thinking hard. There's something I'm forgetting, I just can't think of what. I've caught up with friends, had some food, been insulted by wit, but there's something I'm missing.

He glanced over the crowd, hoping for something to jog his memory. Renarin was still away, Galivar was still ruling, everything was normal.

He snapped his fingers, a bit uncertainly. Music. That must be it. He waved at a passing servant.

"Tell the musicians to play something in the background. That should liven things up a bit."

As the music started to pick up, he glanced around for someone else to talk to. There were the parshendi in their corner, but it might be better to wait until later to talk with them.

There was Ialai sadeas, standing next to an unfamiliar woman. Although now he thought about it...

Oops.

That's right. I'm married. And I haven't paid attention to her all night. Idiot. Maybe if I offer her some flowers, things'll smooth over. Women like flowers, right?

Beggar left the main feast, wandering towards the Beggar's feast in the next room. The feasters here were poorer and darkeyed, much like Beggar himself. They drank uncolored wine, which Beggar often preferred himself. Guessing the vintage and intoxication levels of a particular beverage from taste alone was an entertaining pastime. Although, one of the lighteyes had mentioned a green wine, a type Beggar was unfamiliar with. He would have to see if he could scrounge a glass somehow.  Right now however, he had more important things to do. Drinking wine was all well and good, but certain things in life were better than wine. Namely, drinking wine while enjoying a meal paid for by someone else.

While the feast appeared just as grand as the one the lighteyes were enjoying, the soulcast quality of much of the food was evident. Beggar didn't particularly care, even the blandest of foods were palatable when combined with sufficient alcohol. Beggar grabbed a random bottle of wine and poured half of the colorless liquid on top of something that was presumably meat. Taking a bite, he found that the wine was an sapphire without any of the infusions. Excellent. That would cover the taste quite nicely. Beggar sat back to enjoy his meal. Tonight had been quite peaceful, and peace was always conducive to proper wine drinking.

I've been so close to doing that so many times. It is why I have yet to actually post anything besides this.

Dalinar was bored. The first hour or so of the dance had passed without incident, and, now, after having been told off by multiple people to stop drinking - and even forcibly have had a drink taken out of his hand at one point - there was nothing left for Dalinar to do. His brother was playing the political game, a game that Dalinar had never been good at - he was much better at smashing heads - and he simply found quite boring. His eyes scanned the room, searching for someone, anyone, who would just be willing to slip him something strong.

Others tell me that they are surprisingly civilised, if ignorant of Vorinism. I am sure many throughout the palace would be addressing them incorrectly by mistake."
