Veil awoke from his unconscious, hearing a loud creaking noise as he sat up. Really. Nobody had even tried to wake him up. Veil stood on the edge of  the outlook, looking out at the Alleycity. The creaking noise was coming from the lifeless chasmfiends. Veil saw a figure at the front of the army, leading the charge. Solace. That was his queue. Veil lashed himself, and soon alighted next to Solace, matching his brisk pace.

"Hey, I know this is a war, but can we try to kill as few people as possible?"asked Veil. "It would help me not be in pain, also, I don't like killing that much."

I'd also like to join, my character is bit stuck on the SP, but then I have leave there. That works, right?

Yeah, I think so. Each thread is like a different location, so if your character is at one then they aren't at the rest.

Caer stood up, noticing that the stranger Devaan was gone and that another man was standing up after being unconscious. An ominous thumping resided in the distance. Slowly coming into view, Caer saw that it was two gigantic monsters, each that seemed to be weaponised. They looked horrific, and Caer saw the man at their head, directing the beasts with an army behind him. Caer tried to look at his cognitive aspect but he was too far away. Immediately, the man who had stood up flew to the directing man, talking to him far away. But something tugged at Caer. The directing man looked familiar...

The memory hit Rashan like a cold bowl of soup. The man directing the monsters now was the same man Caer had resurrected, on the same night Caer had died. What was his name? S...Sua...Suo...So...Soll...Sola...Solae...Solay...Solace.

His name had been Solace, and Caer had resurrected him from death. But why? And if so, why was the man he saved now charging the city? Was he the enemy or the hero? Was Caer the enemy, and he just didn't know it? The questions plagued Caer as the monsters proceeded, draping Caer and all around him in a terrying shadow, a true measure of just how large these creatures were.

"Well?" Devaan asked death

"What about this war do you wish to speak about?" He said, noticing a sword on the hilt of Death. A sword he had made

"Or is this about the Swords" Devaan said, nodding to what he called sunset.

Veil is awake now too. Good, looked like it was time to start on that list Solace gave him.

“Tiiyu.”

“Yeah?”

“I’m going to need you to spark a few people.”

“Alright, give me their names.”

“The first one is soul”

“Sparking him now” with that Tiiyu’s green light took an electricity to it moving about about spraticly as it always did when he another ruby

“Soul its Li TaiRu. Solace set off the flare, you know what that means. Meet us at the overlook. where ever you are come immediately.”

Tena spun in mid-air, changing her course with a Steelpushed coin towards the sounds of armed chasmfiends. Sounds like the war has begun, she thought, satisified. Several minutes later, she landed next to Solace with minimal noise (muffled by her Awakened pants). She bounced from foot to foot and said, "I'd like to join your side, Solace. This looks like fun, or at least a challenge." She took the vials he handed her and sniffed them to be sure that they weren't poisoned, and they weren't.

She Pushed off a dropped coin, angling herself so that she'd land on the Coinshot-aid chasmfiend's back, holding on to one of its spines before Pushing against two parallel plates to launch herself straight up. She scanned the field before her discerningly.

Syen arrived at the camp late and it took her a while to orient herself.

War. She'd hoped it wouldn't come to that, but now that it was there, she would help. War always lead to people in need of a healer.

Slowly she waved through the camp looking for a good place for herself.

"It has nothing to do with the Swords. But with Solace, or Rhaizen, whatever that old crook controld now. I've been shown a future... a terrible future. One in which my daughter dies. Everyone dies. And not naturally. All at the same time. I don't know if it's malevolence or simple stupidity, but they're going to destroy the Alleyverse. Unless we get involved. Voidus... he is a fine being, one of my mentors, but he has been caught up with the defence of the DA. And I understand it, after all it is one of his creations. But I must save the Alleyverse, a task I can't perform alone, because breaking the 4th wall isn't that powerful when you're fighting an OP character with soldiers and an agenda. If we succeed, I shall most likely step aside, spend some time with my daughter. But until then I shall fight with every fiber of my being. Will you help me?"

Rohan spun his swords quietly. Once they were upside down, he clicked the button on each hilt that released a cloud of silver dust. He walked through the cloud of dust, and was able to see Death and Devaan speaking. He knelt in front of Death.

"As a fellow Guardian at the Gate, my sword is at your service, Death."

Quote

Is this fair? I think it should be since silver works on Shades, ie ghosts, so perhaps it will let me see through Death's illusions so I can see him.

Tena stopped Pushing on one of the metal plates and fell sideways, yawning. She flipped so that she had her feet oriented toward the ground, and her pants, already Awakened, absorbed the fall flawlessly. She walked over to Soul, yawned again, and said, "Oh, you're here too? That's good. Now I don't have to be fighting with a completely crazy army. But you will, 'cause I'm perfectly insane."

Oh, by the way Life&Death, Soul is my favorite RP character.

I needed an army, and Alleybay doesn't do same day shipping. Thanks to SD for the idea.

Earlier. Just after Mace left the Newcago Court.

Mace grunted as he landed with a jolt on the rich Nalthis soil. He’d always had trouble with Tia cards.

He squinted in the bright sunlight. Ahead of him, down the overgrown dirt path, lay his destination, a long, single storey stone building. It stood out against the flat landscape. The threes within five hundred meters of it had all been cut down for fuel. Mace could see the smoke of the hearths coming out of the chimney as he approached.

When he arrived the large iron doorway, he nodded to the pair of guards who stood there. Such security was likely pointless, no one knew this place existed save those who worked there and a few members of his guild. The guards politely opened the door for him. Breathing in one last breath of fresh air, Mace stepped into the dimly lit bunker.

Inside, he was greeted by a delegation of TUBA scientists who took him to a small office space. When they were all seated comfortably on the floor around a squat wooden table laden with cookies, Mace began their meeting. “So how goes the preparations?” he asked casually.

The Head Scientist nervously began to stutter out his report. “Well Mace, they’re going well. I understand that this isn’t your specialty, so I’ll dumb it down for you.” As he continued to talk about his work, his nervousness faded and his voice took on an excited tone.

“What we’ve managed to do is create a legion of versatile soldiers. It started with some soulcasting. We made three components, blood for life, bones for movement, and stone for protection. All three were awakened. The cost in breaths was enormous, but we found quite a number of willing volunteers once we started giving away free cookies. The command given to the awakened blood was along the lines of ‘flow, circulate within the vessel you are put into’. Then we spiked them.”

Mace recoiled at this. “Say that again, really slowly,” he demanded.

But the scientist was unfazed. “Don’t worry, no one was hurt in the process. We had to be creative to get them though. All it took was a single volunteer. And believe me, they were hard to convince. But once we did, we got them to duplicate their power. We gave them an unkeyed nicrosilmind that grants feruchemical gold and one that grants feruchemical tin. They tapped nicrosil, tap gold, then store in the tin for the pain. The spike goes through, makes a copy of their power, then the gold heals back the physical and spiritual damage. We then took these spikes, and put them in our freshly created soldiers. Unfortunately, we only had a few years, so we weren’t able to make as many as you wanted.” He consulted his clipboard.

“Our present tally stands at about a dozen single-spiked ones, fifty mistborn ones, and five fullborns. With their handlers and support crews, the army stands about a hundred strong. All of our soldiers have been given koloss swords or stone clubs.”

Mace was impressed. “You’ve done well,” He said, getting to his feet. “I leave now for the battlefield. Have the army follow me as quickly as you can. I will wait for you with my honour guard before beginning our assault.”

****

The present. A hill overlooking the Alleyvillage.

Later, Mace found himself standing atop a small grassy hill, overlooking a sea of dark passageways. Around him, an honour-guard of about twenty young chefs stood in a semi circle. They were old for soldiers, most being around thirty, but training them to make cookies and fight efficiently had taken time. They were dressed in the uniform of hazekillers, and had avoided wearing any metal on their person. Most clutched wooden shields and a short staff, or held a longbow. They looked nervous.

Mace turned his back on the battlefield to look at them. “Gentlemen! Thank you for joining me here today,” he began, his voice bellowing across the hill. “Now is traditionally the time where a leader would say something nice. Where he’d tell you that it’s all going to be okay. Where he’d tell you to remember your training, and trust in your fellow soldiers.

But I say no to that. You men are the best TUBA has to offer. You’ve already shown yourselves to brave. Loyal. Ruthless, when needed. You’re the cream of the crop. You already know every flattering word I can throw at you.

So instead, I’m going to be honest. Many of you will not survive this battle. That’s right. You will die in excruciatingly painful ways fighting demons from the lowest pits of the underworld. But! You will not die in vain! And you will not die alone! When the enemy taunts me, when they tell me to abandon my brothers in arms, I say no! I stand by my men in life, and in death.

We march this day to our inevitable doom. But we have a choice. We may either choose to die fighting to defend the grip of tyranny on this land, or we can go down fighting for what we believe in. I ask you! Will we fight for those pompous cultists of the Dark Alley? The same Dark Alley that has spread fear and bad cookies throughout the Alleyverse for Stormfather knows how long? Do we fight to protect immorality? Or injustice?

I say no! We’re going to teach them a lesson they’ll never forget!

We march this day to attack the Dark Alley. We march this day to remind the world that there’s a guild that still cares about honour. We march this day to make the streets run red with overturned bags of Dark Alley sugar - mixed with bloooood!

When my limbs grow weary and beg for rest, I say no!

When I am consumed by doubt and feel like giving up the fight, I say no!

When all is dark and stormy grey, I say no! No, I tell you! I will carry on the fight my brothers!

We will not win this day with numbers or advantages, but with spirit and perseverance! For when evil comes a knockin’… I. SAY. NO!

The honor guard gave a cheer as in the distance a dust cloud rose, announcing the arrival of the rest of his army.

A large group of Sentinels joined the group, led by a blue coat.

"Mace, sir!" The man saluted. "Distributing weapons now, sir!"

Quietly stepping into a darkened Alley, Voidus took a moment to check on the nearby acolytes as they faithfully distributed their cookies to the populace.

He stepped forward and took a cadmium chocolate chip from the tray to examine.

"The cadmium warped in this one." Voidus noted. "Watch out for thermal shock when you cool them down after baking, this'll accelerate the decay rate."

The acolyte nodded along with the words and whispered that he'd try again.

Voidus continued on deeper into the alley.

It seemed he wasn't going to be allowed to attend that party after all. Several groups were mobilising in the Alleycity, some friends, some obvious foes, some whose allegiance was still unknown. But if they were attacking the city directly then some of them may be pursuing that plan that Rhazien had started.

Regardless of their intention, it was no longer safe to leave them all be and let the Dark Alleys keep to themselves. They'd agreed to be non aggressive when the Alleys had expanded again, but if others came to attack them, they'd do their best to defend themselves.

"Let's just hope we don't have to bring that out at least." Voidus said, voice low and only intended for his own ears. "With any luck we won't even need the great old ones. It'd be a real pain to have to round one of those back up again after."

Caught between two extremes. Solace directed his troops up ahead, while they were faint sounds of an army from behind. A clash of two storms.

Darting away from the two monsters - he’d heard someone call them chasmfiends - Caer ran backwards, tapping Steel to go faster. He didn’t want to die! Who’s side was he on?

He eventually made it to a hill, speeding past a group of soldiers, some normal and some... different. Some of them tried to stop him, maybe thinking he was an assassin, but Caer rushed on, grabbing the leader by the shoulders. Mace. His name was Mace. How would Caer remember that?

”Please, Mace!” He pleaded, watching as the army recoiled in shock in having their leader so casually reached.

“I don’t remember anything! I don’t know who’s side I’m on. I don’t even know what’s going on. People say I swore an oath but I can’t even trust most of them!”

Taking a quick glance at Mace’s cognitive aspect, and Caer was surprised to find no tainting whatsoever.

“Please. I just want to do what’s right, but I don’t know. Please.”

He looked back as one of the super-soldiers - they looked like golems, stepped forward, outstretching their hands. They could probably kill Caer in an eye blink, but he held his ground. That was how desperate he was.

He took one last pleading look towards Mace.

Edited by I think I am here.
Would be interesting if Rashan allies with Mace, as he’s forgot Mace is the one who killed his mentor.

“Tiiyu it’s time spark Devaan now”

“On it”

“Devaan It’s Li, most of the others have arrived. The conflict is about to begin. Comeback as soon as you can, once you’ve done your dealings with Death and prepare yourself for the other kind of it. I’ll see you soon.”

”Is that every one?”

“Yes it’s time. Spark every one into open communication.”

”Sparking everyone in now.”

"I'll make sure Solace doesn't get out of line. If he tries anything stupid, like destroying the alleyverse, I'll take him out. But I intend to fight with him" Devaan said to Death

"And If I make sure he doesn't destroy the alleyverse, I want a favour"

Devaan told him what he wanted

"These terms are accepted" Death said

"Good. Please take me to Rashan, he'd be back at the Ghostblood lookout, I need to give him something"

Devaan heard Li's voice coming from a sphere

“Devaan It’s Li, most of the others have arrived. The conflict is about to begin. Comeback as soon as you can, once you’ve done your dealings with Death and prepare yourself for the other kind of it. I’ll see you soon.”

"I'm on my way back now"

Death waved his right hand, and the world shifted. When he opened his eyes he saw Rashan, and Mace? Rashan had breached the TUBA lines and was talking with Mace. The soldiers now look very worried.

"Hey Mace. Can I have a cookie please?" He asked Mace

"Rashan, this is for you, if you are having trouble with your sight to the spiritual realm, this will cut you off from it while you hold it" Devaan handed sethramir to his friend

Realising that Devaan interrupted the discussion, he sat down

"Please, continue" He said
