Butt Venture felt a disturbance he ripped through space time and arrived at the location of But Venture, the imposter

Star nodded, musing. That worked for her. It was more than likely that another Narrator would bring Butt back, but he mattered little to her and all her intricate plotting.

"Am I dismissed?" Tamika asked Tom.

"Yes," said he, in a flat voice.

He turned to look out the window. Things were getting... unpleasant. The Narrators were interfering in his business.

Tamika considered asking about what she had just witnessed but decided against it. If he wanted to tell her, he would. She wouldn't risk bringing his wrath against her.

Star appeared in the room with Tom. She wore black leggings and leather boots, a top made of silver Shardplate, and a blood red cape. A black iron crown adorned her blonde hair. "You'll never get what you want, you know."

He looked directly into her eyes. His irises were completely black, with no sign of their original coloring.

"I don't care," he whispered. "Everyone I knew could die, and I wouldn't care. The world could end in ashes and fire and I wouldn't care. The whole universe could collapse, and I wouldn't care."

He turned back to the window. "I gave up caring a long, long time ago."

Star smiled. She loved this character. She circled him and pressed her lips to his ear. "But you have her now," she whispered.

Tom was silent for a long moment. Finally, he spoke.

"I used to care," he said. "Back then, it was all selfishness and hurting others." He looked down. "I removed that. I found Calamity, killed him, and took the Key."

He looked up at the stars again, a dead look in his eyes. "But it was too late for my soul." He turned to Star. "I keep her around because I thought -just maybe- she could make me care again."

Star threw back her head, cackling. "That is not the way of things," she snapped. "I have given you what you need to be happy. I could help you. If you refuse my help, all I can promise is that you shall be thrown into an even deeper state of misery. I would love to watch such a story. But not here. Not now. You have potential, Tom. Don't waste it."
