My Author imagining the things I could do feels like a twisted dream, where you have no control over your actions and nothing has any permanence. Rebus turned around, not looking especially surprised. “Are you, now?” He asked, grinning. “I’ve just gotten started.”

“Indeed - in fact, I can make the display annotate what you see.” Rebus demonstrated this by cause a sheet of rainbow to appear between them - though his colors were messed up, Rebus was perfectly visible through it. “Most of the abilities I used during our battle are likewise technology-based and hence transferable - though you won’t be able to power them as I do.”

“Mostly was a failsafe - I do not know of any direct involvement I had. As for Protagonist, I want someone to claim it.”

“I am, yes. Is he of importance to you?”
-

Rebus smiled. “Wow indeed. That is always my perception of reality - I can feel myself ceasing to exist, as, say Seraphina is at the moment. She’s fine, and presumably over there somewhere, but she’s not really present in the Thread.”

Jack nodded, the explanation seeming quite satisfactory. “But you have pieced together an explanation from what they could communicate?”
Rebus read the form over, frowning slightly. “I believe you would need to have my clone sign this. Unfortunately, he has fled to a planet containing high concentrations of destabilized Chaotic Light, otherwise known as dynessence, which actively disrupts any magical targeting - by anything I do, at least.”

Good to see you, Xino! Is Bacon’s plan to stay in the vault so both he and it can do the guarding? Honestly, I can’t decide if that’s ridiculous or genius.

Cricket barked, a short, harsh laugh. His eyes began to fade from violet to a midnight black. "I was created to destroy you, Rebus. I am your end. And I'm done waiting."

“Let’s start with the shopping mall,” suggested Jack. “I should probably buy some traveling supplies, after all.”
Rebus watched Jim the Ennuller stand-in vanish and reappear approximately ten feet away, given that Asher was also at the party. As he thought about it, that was probably an issue - a robot had already managed to somehow get sick, and though this party had fewer guests than the regular ones did, there were still plenty of people who could be infected.

"So you'll set the Witherlord free...why? What purpose does that play in your whole plan? And has your plan taken into account that you would be, essentially, sending Symbol off to live with a lie? A version of yourself that no longer really exists, and is just a remnant from a time before?"

“You people are frustratingly difficult to scare - though if I set the Witherlord free instead of taking the Mantle onto myself, I have made a grievous error. Though this was initially the terms of a bargain with Fate, I probably would have resorted to summoning the Witherlord eventually. Somehow, the most devious Narrator since Nameless acquiring one of the most powerful Plotblades in existence and attempting to conquer the Thread wasn’t alarming enough.” Rebus chuckled. “And I would say that it is no more a lie than the rest of our existences. Before Lady Bug tampered with her memories, Symbol would have known exactly what was happening.”

“Well that’s convenient for both of us, then.”

Rebus sneezed. This was a rather unusual thing for him to do, since he had complete control over what would normally be unconscious processes, and a magically and technologically augmented immune system.

"Why? What, exactly, do you seek? It clearly isn't related to Symbol, no matter how much you try to say it—I'm not sure who you're trying to fool, yourself or everyone else. You want Symbol out, but you won't go with her, by a flimsy memory excuse. If she truly loved you, you should be able to show her who you are. Unless you don't think she would appreciate the person you have become?"

“I would accept, should you wish to give it,” Rebus said, following Sequence’s gaze, though he could not truly see the stars. “And your unwillingness to fight me is perhaps to my benefit - you have one of the half dozen weapons I believe could pose a threat to me.”

Sequence tilted her head, focusing on Rebus. She simply stared at him for a moment, concentrating, then she summoned Conflict. Conflict took the form of a brilliant white and gold sword, functional and un ornamented, but radiating a sense of righteousness. “I assume this is what you’re referring to,” she said, examining the sword curiously before dismissing it with a puff of mist. “In that case, perhaps we will cross blades eventually. I don’t look forward to the day regardless.”

We try our best to protect people, and to keep bad things from happening…” She said, looking out the window with a somewhat pained expression. “But nobody is perfect, and bad things are destined to slip through even the strongest walls. And that’s okay.” Sequence looked down at Atlas with a smile. “Besides, you’re much too sweet and nice to be cursed. Cursed people are awfully unpleasant.”

Sequence visibly relaxed. “Threads, thank you,” she said, patting Unintelligible on the arm before taking a small jar of clear gel from her bag. She dunked the match into the gel, which continued to burn regardless, and stirred it around a bit. The result was a salve of sorts that radiated the same glow as the match. She then summoned her Narrationblade, which took the form of a small glass beaker. It was… dark. Misty. “Okay…” Sequence began, holding up the glowing salve. “My idea is to apply this to the edges of the wound, hopefully repelling the darkness and forcing it out into the beaker, which will hopefully attract it… Hopefully.” She looked rather worried. In fact, she looked incredibly worried, and had a slight tremble in her hands as she looked into Unintelligible’s eyes. “Tell me if it starts to hurt too much, okay?”

Taeidin sat up, somewhat disoriented. He thought that he knew what he was seeing, but at the same time it wasn't behaving as he would expect it to. The result was dizzying, the area warping around him in strange ways. This was unintentional, he knew, but was bound to have happened eventually without clarification or him figuring this out. He waited a moment for the sensation to subside, and then, thinking, he decided to wait a bit longer, realising that if he did so it was likely that he would not encounter this issue again.

-

Erdikan stumbled slightly, watching as the last few minutes of the party passed in an instant for him. He leaned against a sofa, taking a moment let it all catch up to him.

How had- no, he knew how this had happened. He had been frozen, or slowed, as others continued to do things. This whole venture was a bad idea from the start, but this proved it. Nothing could be accomplished here. Erdikan moved to leave, disappear into blissful obscurity again, but...

He looked up, processing for the first time what was going on around him. A confrontation, that's what he was seeing. Unlike most of the rest of the Thread, if he went away now, they would be left with no way to tell what would occur at the rest of the party. And what was about to happen would be vitally important information to know. He glanced around, weighing the options, knowing it was worth the risk. And so Erdikan pulled up his hood, taking a seat. He glanced over at the uncertain fuzz that used to be Sequence. What was it that she had said? Ah-

"I think I'll grace you a little while longer."

Jim was taken aback. "Oh. Um, thank you." He glanced down at his clipboard. "I mean, it is perfectly alright. This is a high-stress situation, and strong emotions are not unexpected."
