BAT, NO! she cried.

She grabbed him and teleported them back to the woods below, hugging him as tightly as she could.

No.

He tried to pull away, annoyed. “You disrupted my experiment.”

As Rebel approached the castle at the center of the city, a guard called out to him. “Ho there! Halt and declare yourself in the King’s name!”

Nameless glared at Symbol, eyes fully distinct and filled with utter contempt. Narrators like you are the reason this thread has fallen so far. Ignoring the lore, doing whatever you want regardless of how impossible it is. Just admit that you mutated yourself on purpose!

She shrugged. The lore is nigh incomprehensible and isn’t even centralized. What are we supposed to do? I thought you wanted some innovative Narrators.

But sure. If it makes you feel better, I guess I mutated on purpose. Congrats. Your monopoly is preserved.

I DON'T CARE! I DON'T CARE IF A BRIDGE MIGHT APPEAR, I CARE ABOUT YOU TOO MUCH TO LET YOU GO!

Well, do you care about Bat? You're bringing him down from the power you should have, because you're jealous. I can help you deal with him, if you need.

Don't touch him.

I don't need to touch him; you're hurting him on your own.

You figured it out, Bat. She doesn't understand how it works, because she's afraid. I tried to tell people, before - most told me "maybe for you". But this is a power available to all.

Oh, I’m just hallucinating, he said cheerfully.

It’s a good thing I have someone to coddle me and feed into my delusions. Do you know her name?

Aaaand she was crying again. Wonderful.

Don't- don't go . . . Bat, what's happening? What's wrong . . . did I do something? D-did I . . . did I break you?

Have you ever had it all make sense? That moment when suddenly it all clicks, and your problem - be it new math or your nature and its flaws - suddenly goes away. When you finally get it? And now imagine that person with the powers you fear more than anything stops you just as you figure it out - just as you were about to match the power, find a purpose, define your destiny. His Author either loves him enough that once this is over, he'd come back to earth, or doesn't, in which case nothing you can do will stop this.

Rebus appeared, though Tam couldn't see him unless she too went off the deep end into the true potential of Narration. "I know something close. @Halcyon The Only. And you shouldn't worry about delusions; it's as real as anything else here is."

“Hello, @Halcyon The Only. I hope you’re proud of yourself.”

Then Tam, you may have to do something about it. Or accept that Bat's free and self-actualized, while you're still here on the ground.

Face facts for good, perhaps? Come into your own power. Or if you want to bring him down, you can remind him of his family, society. They fear Narrators for a reason - show him that. Then split him, leave one with blue and the other with red.

"This is what being a Narrator is. You tell reality what to do. It obeys. You recognize what reality means, have an understanding of your Author. If you concentrate, I bet you can read it."
