Narrators these days. You’re almost as bad as Mythos used to be. Nameless thought petulantly.

She folded her arms, also petulantly. All right, then what should have happened, Your Great Smartness?

"We might be able to get you there, actually. If it bonds like a whithergeist would, it could bestow, say, magical light powers for Nameless to take offense to."

Dr. Rebus jumped, though he had a guess as to what happened. "I have no idea. Matches the readings on that giant laser that briefly showed up in the sky, and I've heard that guy - his name is Malevolence, if you can believe it - has a tendency to use pocket nuclear explosives. Maybe it's benign, though - I'll scan it." He sent the trolly to cover it, systematically destroying it and analyzing the chemical composition.

She scowled. “Narrators,” she grumbled.

He grinned far too wide and stood up, brushing off his knees. “Looks like we’re both hallucinating. Isn’t that nice.”

Tam was . . . just so confused.

The experiment was a failure! Nothing should have happened!

Audio device appeared. “I might be evil, but I’m not Narrator. Rebus the Narrator, if this is indeed a clone of him, already has a Plotblade, and he currently seeks one of the most powerful of them all. I fear he plans to use you and your people to further his already great power.”

“No, I didn’t. She did it for me. Because told her to.” His grin widened, if that was even possible.

"Tell me about it! I heard there were two at the fight - one did nothing, and the other somehow panicked and left."

“No.”

He sounded more petulant and stubborn than anything.

Well, clearly something did.

The scientist whirled and shot the audio device, looking crazed.

“I think you better go,” she told Rebus.

Yes, because you made something happen. That’s against all the laws of fairness! Bonding doesn’t even work that way even though f we had succeeded! You both have to be willing. You don’t just drink a withergeist.

"I'm sure you drink exotic matter mixed with Prismite all the time."

Dr. Rebus looked at the scientist (@Halcyon The Only), bewildered.

"I only have one teleportation shield, though, and it takes a decent electric grid to run. I could leave the things here and take my chances, I suppose. If you can manage to power a teleporter, you can link the city to the space station, which will be able to do better blocking."

Of course not, she scoffed. I would guess I am a withergeist. Or something.

“GET OUT,” she shrieked. “YOU’LL BRING THEM ALL DOWN ON OUR HEADS!”

Nevermind. Do you want to leave, or . . . ?

He cocked his head. Something glistened in his eyes. “Leave? What would be the point of that?”

She . . . she didn't like how he was acting. It was kind of making her nervous.

Bat? Are- are you okay?

Dr. Rebus ran to the elevator, reached for the button, then gaped as a crackle of lightning came from it. "That's not good. You do have some sort of defenses, correct?"

Tam's head began to ring, as she heard a voice. " @Through The Living Glass - Tam? I have a job for you, and maybe it will even help."

Bat, she said shakily, I don't want you to be anything other than yourself. I don't know what's happening, but please don't change yourself.

Of course I don’t! But if I did, I would be just fine. I could easily insulate myself from the dangerous properties of anything containing Prismite.

We weren’t even MAKING a withergeist! It was a Narration-energy equivalent we tried to produce! Tried and failed!

Rebus, no. Whatever it is, I don't care, SO LEAVE US BE.

"I wish I could, Tam. You know how Malevolence is, though."

In a few keystrokes, Rebus had made several gun-like rods. He tossed one to her. "Impulse cannon - hit the button and it'll knock things you point it at back. It won't help too much, but it can also ground the lightning."

“Now, see,” he said in a rather formal tone, “If I were to step onto this bridge, would it hold me, or would I just fall? Is that up to me? I’d guess it is.”

"Oh, don't worry, I'm dealing with him. I just need you to attack a city he's focused on, make some noise and all. Or I can have Bat do it, I suppose. Might have more of an impact."

She grabbed him and teleported them back to the woods below, hugging him as tightly as she could.

Rebel nodded, checking to see if there’s some sort of navigation system as he walked in what he guessed to be the correct direction.

As Rebel approached the castle at the center of the city, a guard called out to him. “Ho there! Halt and declare yourself in the King’s name!”

Nameless glared at Symbol, eyes fully distinct and filled with utter contempt. Narrators like you are the reason this thread has fallen so far. Ignoring the lore, doing whatever you want regardless of how impossible it is. Just admit that you mutated yourself on purpose!
