Well, I know for sure she's trying. Actually, usually the idea of that kind of violence makes her sick. 

But... that man scared her. I think... I think he reminded her of herself. I don't know. It was barely a flutter in her brain. But something about that man made her certain that he shouldn't be spared. 

Be nice to her. Livetha's nose twitched, the tone of her thoughts lightening. Cuz I ship!

And he reminded her of herself? He realized something. Does she think she shouldn't- that maybe- Does she want to- the thought made him sick.

She's trying, Livetha repeated. I... don't approve of everything she does. But she's really quite a good person. She just.......... had the wrong influences. 

And... Livetha looked away. I'm not saying she... wants to die. But I do think there are parts of herself she hasn't come to terms with. Can't confront. Parts she thinks makes the rest of her worthless. 

Livetha thought his nonunderstanding was probably for the best. She still shipped, though.

Livetha paused and tilted her head. That depends on why you want to help her. Why do you care about her? She's just a random woman who's given herself trauma by killing someone she didn't even know.

He blinked. I-I care about her because . . . she's my friend. A really good friend, at this point.

True, we've only known each other for three weeks, but . . . I guess going thought near constant life-or-death struggles with someone else will develop a relationship pretty fast . . .

Hmm. Okay, I can work with that. She paused. She knows killing is wrong generally, even if her morals are a little skewed. At this point, I think she just needs somebody who cares about her.

Not that that doesn't pose a whole new avenue of problems. If only she weren't so dramatic all the time.

Shoe sighed. What was he going to do? He sat there quietly for a few minutes, trying to calm himself down and letting his mind drift. He listened to the waves; ran his fingers through the sand.

Then he got an idea.

It sickened him to even consider it at first, but he made himself keep thinking it through anyway-

-and . . . after a few minutes, it started to make a lot of sense. More sense than he was willing to admit.

He watched the sun begin to set on the horizon, and a feeling of finality came over him. It was both a good and a bad feeling. Hopeful and nauseating at the same time.

If only because he now knew what to do.
