Rain droplets splashed onto Sophie's face and she realized something.

She didn't have to be here. She could be ethereal and retreat and pretend this never happened. She didn't have to interact with the thread at all.

The thought was appalling. If she did that, she would let Xinoehp die. And... he was the only one who ever really... cared for her.

She realized how alone she was. Aqua wasn't all that kind. Astral was practically darkness incarnate. She didn't have... anybody. That was why she wouldn't retreat. Because if she did, then she would be truly and utterly alone.

Sophie narrowed her eyes and began to Narrate.

The rain intensified, the downpour growing so heavy that it was near-blinding.

She put a forcefieled in the shape of an umbrella over herself and Aqua. "It's gonna get heavy real fast so-" The roar of the water started immediately. "Hold on tight, I guess," Sophie said.

Yes, gasped Aqua, her breathing (or whatever it was she was doing) returning to normal. It's working! The clouds-

Her words were interrupted by a deafening wave of thunder. High up in the sky, for a split second, a psuedo-face appeared - formed of brilliant streams of electricity.

Nooo... groaned Aqua in almost a wail.

Sophie gulped. "Uh oh," she said. She had no idea what was going on, but Aqua seemed to, so if she was worried, Sophie would be too. "What... what do we do now?"

Truthless came to be through the endless cycle of imagination, where imagination produces more imagination, to the point where it was impossible to escape.

Then Truthless replaced the burned out lightbulb.

Why does this cruel universe place the letters S and D next to each other on the keyboard??

A barely audible hum began to resonate within the forcefield. Static crackled in the air.

We die, said Aqua without emotion.

The hum intensified. Static flashed faster and faster as charge built up until -at last- it was enough.

Thunder rolled. Light flashed. Electricity crackled.

But at the end of it, Aqua and Sophie still stood in the forcefield, alive and relatively unhurt.

What? said Aqua. I don't...

She trailed off, looking straight ahead to the outside of the forcefield.

Michael stood on the barren, slick, ground, hand held high, looking slightly singed. As Aqua stared, he turned, meeting her gaze. He nodded, making a 'get on with it' motion with his other hand.

Thank Fate, whispered Aqua.

Sophie's mind was going a mile a minutes, trying to process everything. Her heart thundered in her ears and she felt like she was about to faint again. It's okay, she thought to herself, trying to keep from hyperventilating. Look around. Take it one step at a time. She was safe. Aqua was safe. Astral was safe. And... Michael. When did Michael get here? Sophie regarded him happily. It was nice to see a real friend. But... "Wha-what about Xinoehp?" Sophie asked. "You didn't Narrate him..."
