Actually, the air wasn’t time frozen. It just didn’t move at your call.

“I disagree. This fight is predetermined - you should know that.”
That was odd - Rebus was manipulating it manually, with nanomachines. Trying another tactic, he latched on to the fireball, stopping it in place and feeding it more power, filling the air with smoke. Rebus would not suffocate - Aeon might.

"Hmm."

She walked over and waved her hand through it.

The darkness was warm, for some reason - almost like a heat lamp. The shadow it cast was warm too, though that was still illuminated by other light.

You trouble me. You sow seeds of dissent among my loyal. But perhaps rightly so. I will ponder this. But the title Antagonist troubles me as well. What good soul would be titled such a thing?

I… am fighting a war against my own. Some of the gods do not submit to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. While they do not submit, I am but a shade of my true power. I have but 2 of my domains left.

This is a suitable explanation. Thank you. I would like to meet him before I make such an oath.

SHHHH! Do you want to anger him? Staying on his good side is by far the safest option.

I would certainly be willing to help you.

I will request his presence.

Rebus appeared, wearing his armor and crown. “I am not offended by truth, even if it is a criticism of my morality. I gave up the opportunity for a flawless public image when I claimed Antagonist.”

He then turned to Axzi, the man some saw as a god. Rebus knew that experience, though at this point those who called him one were almost right. Rebus had a friendly smile, in contrast to the wickedly pointed and darkly glowing crown he worn. “As others have told you, I am not necessarily a good soul. That does not mean I will bring destruction, however; I consider myself intelligent, and bringing the downfall of one’s own domain is an action that does not befit that description. What I offer is power in exchange for swearing allegiance to me, and yet more resources should one wish to truly manage a section of my empire. Should a place I claim be unique and useful, I leave it as it is, while places that would be improved I have been transforming into nanomachines.”

@Dragonheir whats going on with our plotline? Did Lezterp properly hold onto Cursed Treasure?

Cursed Treasure is a little broken at the moment - it basically needs to latch on to someone’s soul after what Rebus did.

Renn was startled by the appearance of this new man. Every single person he had seen today- for that matter in the past week- had appeared out of thin air in rapid succession.

Very well. Perhaps it is possible we can help one another with our issues. I cannot guarantee the loyalty of those under me, and those that oppose me would rather die than serve another. From what I have heard, however, I believe that might happen…

He trailed off.

“I have seen a bit of that, though not your whole arc.”
“Fael and Xanther are true Dragons, while Asharak and Mr. Whitlock work further behind the scenes. Nurgle’s servants have approached me - the plague god may become a vassal - and others also govern territory I have claimed.”

“That tends to happen when you become relevant - there are many beings who can observe important events, and since you have recently become part of one they traveled to meet you.”
“I understand on all counts.” Rebus smiled again - this was something he did often, for a variety of reasons. “There is a metal called Morditite - weapons forged from it inflict wounds that do not heal and can kill even that which does not die. I have some - it may be a method to truly defeat the gods that defy you.”

Normally, Renn wouldn’t believe that he could be part of something important. However, several gods stood before him, so who knows.

Rebus’s definition of important certainly counted him - he was being written by an Author, and that was enough.
“Your world would be part of my empire - I would leave its state up to you, given its uniqueness, and give you a few planets I have already turned to nanomachines to govern and perhaps serve as god to. Your citizens would know who I am, and potentially - again, I am less likely to interfere with a unique world - would be given  opportunities or obligations to help the empire as a whole. Your expectations, and rewards, would differ depending upon what role you desire - you could choose anything from giving up sovereignty to me completely, to remaining mostly independent, to serving as the ruler - under me - of many planets, to running a specific function throughout my entire empire.”

Axzi spoke carefully.
“I am of the mind that none should have complete control over another. As such, I meddle little in the affairs of my own, other than to gift them with some of my strength. Or I suppose the strength of one of my loyal. However, I do believe in Order, as it is one of my domains, I understand that there must be hierarchy, even in gods. In such a hierarchy, it would appear you are above me. I would like to maintain some independence. I am not sure about whole planets until I have my situation fully under control and can use my full powers. But I am willing to join, unless somebody has blatant objections?”

Is there some specific phrase I should say?”

Rebus looked out into the distance, at the greater Thread. “There is less resistance than I had thought.”
“That is why I offered them the roles I did. You believe yourself to be stronger - if you have the raw power you claim, I could use a warrior to lead my armies.” He raised an eyebrow, not entirely confident in either Atredies’s power or his trustworthiness. “I would ask you to prove yourself.”

Very well. We have decided. So long as aid is provided in my conflict as a sign that we can rely on you, I (and those under me), affirm that we will be an autonomous part of your empire.

Ah.
Rebus had his nanomachines consume the meteor, then dissipate into a cloud. Meanwhile, he began manipulating the air around him, forming a vacuum then making it larger and larger.

Rebus picked up the sandwich, hand bursting alight with light and darkness. “You thought you were only giving me a physical object, didn’t you?”

It was warm within whatever it was Whan did, but otherwise it seemed the same as the outside. The bird, for obvious reasons, could not see.

The bacon sandwich didn't respond. It was, after all, only a bacon sandwich.
