“I’m scared,” she whispered.

That’s no good

He smiled, sitting on the bed next to her. He scribbled down again, writing “I’ll wait for them to come in. I’m not going anywhere.”

"Shout louder and half the village could hear you!" came a voice from behind the desk, but a young man in his twenties emerged. He had dark curly hair and a short beard, and a twinkle in his eyes. "Well, 'ello. Finn Donavan at your service."

"Some equipment for the lady, and for you to decipher this," he said, holding out the paper. "But prices first, I don't want you jacking them up if you see it's something interesting or important."

Finn smiled to himself. Translation? Easy. He could always just lie, but the perk of being a con man with a photographic memory meant that when he read something he never forgot it ."Of course. Eighty marks? For the map? The rest will come later."

He sighed, filing though his wallet. “Don’t lie to me, kid. I’m old enough to know to not be stupid with people like you.”

“Sorry about her,” Twelve muttered, and then shut the door.

Yeah.

Irie laid back and closed her eyes.

"Fair. You know me too well." he said, tossing him a card. "Consider yourself lucky. This time, I can actually read the map. Thank the stars for memory, huh?"

He turned onto his side and hugged her.

After a while, an older man (early thirties, maybe) came in. He set a tray of food on the coffee table, then hooked a stool with his foot and slid it to the side of her cot, sitting down. He undid her restraints and began changing the bandages on her arms.
