She settled into her familiar stance on the balls of her feet, sword out and ready. She felt herself drifting into a familiar, comfortable headspace. It was too small for him to crouch down, so he stood. He had failed. He had failed Rose, himself, everybody... He swore softly. Sometimes his best... sometimes his best wasn't good enough.
