"What was that?"

Five giggled.

“Does it matter?” she whispered.

“We guessed the Nullite would be here, actually. Your city is fairly well hidden, but…” Dr. Rebus chuckled, pressing his hand to his floating trolly and causing it to sprout a monitor and a few antennas. “My scanners can track things on the surface of other planets if I optimize them right, so spotting a massive cave right below me is pretty much given.”

The scientist jumped.

“I see,” she said stiffly. “And you’re here only for Nullite.”

“Very well.” The Ghost took the bag, and vanished.

Sequence waved goodbye as they vanished. "Lovely fellow, don't you think?" She said to Aelinor with a smile. Aelinor shrugged.

Gail rubbed her head, fully awake now. “What the… we shouod get over to the edge.”

She stood, but before she could walk, the ground dropped again. She stumbled to her knees.

Glen made his way to her by army crawling. "Roll. Try rolling to the edge."

Dr. Rebus shook his head emphatically. “Of course not! Now that I know there’s people down here, I want to help! And learn things - as I said, you have a different path I can potentially draw inspiration from. If I only wanted Nullite, I could probably refine my calculation to find another vein of it somewhere else. What’s your field?”

"I'm an engineer. I do dabble in biology, but only as a necessity."

Please don't. But . . . but yeah, I mean, I guess . . .

"Some of them could still sense us." he said, shaking his head. "They don't all need eyes."

Palsu raised a hand. “I could distract them. I have a… concealment device. It was given to me by my former master. Something to help me complete my missions. It’s… how I was hiding from the Faceless.”

Malevolence glared at the crowd. “I have a mission for you. There is a city besieged by darkness. Go to their leaders. Offer them terms of surrender.”

“Having clones can make people rather reckless, I’ve found. I probably would have risked it too, if I knew someone had an idea for the result. Of course, I would have given a warning first.”
Kion nodded. “It would be possible - I’d just need to think of how to do it. There might be some words that will hide from more than sight.”

We can wait a bit for that plotline.
Withergeists are basically scary clouds of destruction that possess can people. Xino’s blog has some information on it.
Rebus smiled again.

Rebus’s head fell off before the blade touched it. He fully exploded from the presumedly Narrative blast, but reassembled, whole, a few steps away. “Would you like me to stop?”

“Hm.” A curious look came over Balitan’s face. “I suppose, if I were immortal…”

What’s happening to her? What I created shouldn’t have any such effect. Nameless’ mental voice sounded snappy.

A note appeared next to the engineer in a crackle of lightning. It read:

The person to which you speak, ‘Dr.’ Rebus, is actually a depowered clone of or agent of a Narrator.

He considered that for a long moment, then put it back and threw a handful of grass at Tam.

Well, I'm sorry for taking initiative, Symbol snipped. I am a little piece of a god after all, so chalk it up to that if you wish.

The engineer jumped immediately away from it, drawing her weapon.

"Was that you?" She demanded of Rebus @Dragonheir. "What is it?"

I . . .

Well, this whole thing was basically dependent on the fact that they had agency of any kind.

And otherwise . . .

. . .

Well, she didn't really have a choice then, did she? Ironic.

Okay. I guess that makes sense.

You’re a Narrator aren’t you? Even if it was mutagenic it shouldn’t have had any lasting effects on you. I think you’re just faking for dramatic effect.

Narrators these days. You’re almost as bad as Mythos used to be. Nameless thought petulantly.

Dr. Rebus jumped, though he had a guess as to what happened. "I have no idea. Matches the readings on that giant laser that briefly showed up in the sky, and I've heard that guy - his name is Malevolence, if you can believe it - has a tendency to use pocket nuclear explosives. Maybe it's benign, though - I'll scan it." He sent the trolly to cover it, systematically destroying it and analyzing the chemical composition.
