She took one off the shelf, then turned to leave-

-but grabbed another, just in case.

She returned and handed one to Five.

“Fine. He tried to break out, apparently.” Lise shrugged. “We’ll only hold him until he gets healed up, though. He doesn’t seem to know anything important.” 

Cricket and Rose were in one room, and Tam and Bat were in another. 

She tilted her head. “I know I’ve heard that word before…”

“Hello!” The Valiant One waved at Tam and Bat. “Your faces look familiar. Have we met before?”

He laughed. You were scary! Objectively... well... maybe not objectively. But you were scary, until I realized you were a person. And not some malicious god.

He really had changed a lot in the past weeks. And... he was proud of that.

Five eyed the water bottle, then sipped from it. 

Then sipped again, and then it was gone. 

“Thanks,” she said softly.

I may not be a malicious god, but I'm definitely a mischievous one, she chuckled.

She felt a lot better. Strangely relaxed . . . like a weight had been taken off her chest. Almost happy.

Still kind of weird. I don't normally think of myself as a god . . . but for you it seems like the way normal to think about Narrators.

She nodded and brought Five a few granola bars, an apple she'd snagged from a coworker, and a brownie she'd been saving for later.
