She yelped. “They go different directions!”

He began to stand, not trusting the gurney they laid him in. "Safe. That's a funny word."

Aden lay a hand on his chest to stop him. “Woah, buddy. Stay right there in that hospital bed. You are safe.”

". . . Well, we'll have to take care of it eventually."

He shook his head. “It’s not your fault.”

She hugged herself tighter.

He sighed and grabbed a clipboard and pen.

"Let's back up a little. What's your full name?"

“Maybe a little. But not all of it. You’re worth it, anyway.”

“I…” Her hands tightened into fists. “Why do you wanna know? I don’t trust you.”

Aden grabbed him and gently forced him back down, pressing a button to call for a doctor. “Chill. The doors are locked. We’re trying to take care of you.”

“We also need you for other reasons,” Aden admitted. “We’re hoping you know something about the organization that was torturing you.”

Aden stopped him again. “Do I need to restrain you?” He asked, annoyed.

“And, at the most basic level, you should tell us because we saved you. I have other reasons, if you wanna hear.”

A warm sort of feeling bloomed in her chest, pushing aside some of the numbness.

Thank you, she whispered. You didn't have to do any of this.

-

He sighed.

"Because we're trying to help you, miss. I understand how you're feeling right now, but we do need this information."

Irie watched silently from beside the doorway.

Rebus smiles, using utility fog to generate helpful currents. "I can help you move, if you want to see what's up there. I'd put the amulet on so you don't have to learn how to walk too."

Aden sighed deeply and pulled out the empty hilt, activating the blue-purple blade. “I really hate threatening people, Starlight. Look, we’re not the bad guys. How about you sit down and tell me your story before we do anything rash?”

The scalpels, the knives, scars are covering my legs and upper body. My story is one you don't get to hear." he told him, shoving him to the side and kicking through the door. "Weak latches, I barely had to use anything"

"Just five?"

Aden stumbled.

The guards posted outside the door turned. The first activated her sword and swung it through his neck, knocking him out.

The next time he woke up, he awoke in metal restraints. The bed was bolted to the floor this time. Aden had been joined by another woman with dark hair, almond shaped eyes, and tanned skin.

He squeezed her hand, feeling warmer. “Thank you.”

She nodded.

uh let’s say he called Irie too if that’s ok :P

The amulet doesn't do anything underwater, but once they got above water - propelled by utility fog - effectively nothing changed but a slight distortion where the water ended. Rebus stands on the shore of the pond, but Soliel (did I get that right?) still feels like she's underwater.

Yup :D

Her eyes widened. “It’s so clear,” she whispers. “And I can see forever!”

No, thank you, Bat.

She looked over at him and smiled weakly- but genuinely.

He nodded.

"Do you know how old you are?"

Irie stood.

"I'll be back soon."

Hehe okay

She'll be there in a sec :D

He smiled back, then looked back up at the ceiling.

“I never really had friends before you. Except maybe when I was young. So we’re even.”

“No!” Five stood up. “Irie, no, please don’t go!”

Well, that was kind of sad.

She turned her head back towards the ceiling, closing her eyes.

Then again . . . she hadn't really, either. Though it was a little different.

Well, still. Thank you.

-

Irie looked back at her.

"I'll be back soon, I promise! The other one we rescued- he's just causing some trouble. Shouldn't take too long."

She sighed and relaxed back into the covers.

This feeling.

This was the feeling she'd been trying to find.

Peacefulness. A sense of security.

She was a little surprised to also find that this -allowing Bat to try and help her- didn't bother her anymore. Probably because she realized now that how she felt also affected how he felt.

Maybe . . . maybe I could talk about it a little . . . she said hesitantly.

-

She opened her mouth to say something, looking apologetically to the doctor.

He shrugged.

"You could come with me for a little while, if you'd like."
