The faint sound of a straight drumbeat filtered in from the living room.

She swallowed hard and followed. 

Elliot?

She tensed. What now?

He led her through a few well-lit hallways, sending most of his team away save a couple.

He opened a door at the end of a hallway and motioned her and Irie inside.

He turned and walked back to the cave. "I'm sorry." He called, "Will you tell me how that happened to your leg? Was it humans?"

Bat squeezed her hand and got up to check. 

He came back after a minute. "I don't know where Elliot got a drum set, but... everything's fine, so."

She hugged herself, but stepped inside.

"Sort of," he rumbled from the cave. "Mostly."

She nodded. She had laid back on the bed and was staring at the ceiling.

I forgot he was there . . .

Inside was a small medical examination room.

He motioned for her to sit on the raised bed/bench-thing (I don't remember what it's called lol), while Irie sat in a chair by the door.

He lay down next to her. "Me too. I don't know what's up with that guy."

She wiped the tears off her face. She hadn't cried for very long- which honestly seemed like a good thing.

It'd gotten easier to talk over the past few hours, too, which was definitely a good thing.

She didn’t really want to, suddenly feeling cornered. 

What choice did she have, though? So she did.

He grins. “I will. But there are several ways I can do it, and I’ll need to choose one. I could change your body using a few methods, I could give you something that allowed you to move around and breathe in the air, I could give you another body like what I’ve done with myself, make air to you behave the same as water, the list goes on. It depends upon what you want.” He makes a holographic list, then corrects for the water distorting the images. “I can, of course, change what I’ve done to account for feedback. But I think we want to start with the requirements you have.”

"I realize your situation is . . . rather unique, and so I hope you don't mind if instead of starting with a normal sort of checkup, you could tell me if you have any serious injuries or issues before we start the actual examination? I think it would be better for the both of us."

not me responding 6 hours later cause I accidentally woke up at noon instead of nine

He began to stand, not trusting the gurney they laid him in. "Safe. That's a funny word."
