He swallowed, then took a deep breath. “Okay. You got your plasmatine ready?”

I’ll dm you abt that :D

She scowled.

Oh well. Walking wasn’t the worst thing in the world.

Cricket didn't look like he could walk two miles in his condition though.

It was pretty dark, so she summoned a couple floating lights that would follow them around.

The halls opened up considerably, with balconies facing out into very deep water. Doors off their hinges lined the wall.

His cellmate curled uo tighter on the floor. “They’ve done this before,” came a hoarse whisper.

She mentally cursed again. “Where’s scudding Bat when you need him?”

Yet from above, this pool of water just looked like a normal pond . . .

What a strange place, the Thread was.

She swam out onto one of the balconies and peered into the darkness.

"Oh. Can't do that either, sorry." The Valiant One looked around. "Where did you say the house was? I can carry you if you need it."

"Two miles that way." he said pointing. Storms. Being carried would be humiliating.

Spooky.

Lightning struck nearby, though the sky was utterly cloudless and the weather pleasant.

"Pretty, huh?" Soleil said hopefully.

Aden took a deep breath and disconnected the alarm. "Clock's ticking," he said, and unscrewed the grate. It clattered down into Starlight's cell ( @_Null_), and he jumped after it, immediately getting to work picking the lock.

Irie dropped down beside him.

"This one, too?" she whispered, pointing to the person on the other side of the bars.

Not waiting for an answer, she got to work getting through the bars.

"You've interacted yes, but you're not close to them. From my observations, Narrators seem to require regular interaction with normal people in order to remain grounded. Ruia, you, others. It's a pattern. Besides, my evil communication device contacted you."

"I suppose. Maybe that's why I came here, so I could get a connection to reality. Other kinds of connections can break Narrators, you know." Rebus continues grinning. "And your communication device contacted all the Narrators, though you're lucky you got as many responses as you did."

The girl on the other side of the bars--- they could see because of the glowing flashlight on Aden and Irie's heads--- sat up, eyes wide.

This one seemed . . . more better off than the others.

"Well, would you like me to shine this flashlight in your face?"

The dragon was quiet, then sighed and heaved himself up with the grating of stone. He moved closer to the mouth and the light.

His form was bulkier than the other dragons he'd seen so far, and his wings far bigger proportionally, and one of his back legs was completely mangled.

"And you can't get enough jump off it to fly, can you. Hmmm"

Sorry this took so long. Brain wouldn't cooperate with story.
