"Indeed. I'll work on communicating with the orb while we wait for the Ennullers to show up."

Rebus uses his teleportation network to bring him and Atredies (@Ookla the Irreplaceable needs pinging) near. He readies all the resources he has, though he's doubts he'll need them, and strides towards the castle, fog of both mundane and nanotech varieties trailing behind him.

The fog at the castle is Nullite, and resists being diverted.

So there.

There is a very long drop from many bridges extending from the castle.

Good luck.

And wish me luck.

Rebus promptly sets up a force-field based pump and begins to draw the fog in to harvest the Nullite. He'd need it to fix his office, after all.

The Nullite resists this.

I just said it resists being diverted.

Oh. There are some interesting applications for that... Also Atredies is still there, so you should ping @Ookla the Irreplaceable. And I'm signing off, because I have a swim meet early tomorrow.

Leaving behind a pump and some scanners, Rebus sighs and walks over the Nullite fog on a utility fog bridge.

Well it covers the entire castle.

And technology is short circuited by Authorial forces.

If you don't want to involve Tam, we could knock her unconscious. Tell her the plan is to use her as bait, but that we'll wake her up when Malan comes to collect her and I along with you guys will strike.

Rebus nods. "I suppose so. Everything here is, really."

Rebus (prime) nods and accepts more Narrative power from the actual Rebuses. Then, he does as recommended, pouring raw Narration into the conical hole.

The cavern lights up around them.

"The first Narrators discovered the First Truth." Desolation pointed at pictures, all formed by the raw narration. "They cheated their way out of their Author's Grasp, and what they found was truly devastating."

Desolation traced Foreshadowing across the walls, until it led to one final etching in the wall. A picture of an Author in the from of a faceless deity, channeling Narration down into the thread. "The Authors are the true forces at place. Everything we do, everything we have done, everything that will be done, all of it has been determined by the Authors."

Desolation formed around Rebus'. "We have no free will. We are not characters, or living things, or even tangible entities. We are... Puppets. But for what? And why?"

Desolation pointed to the raw narration pool in the conic hole. "Narration was given to us by the Authors to farther their agenda. And whatever their agenda may be, it worries me. Why introduce such a chaotic and destructive power?"

"It was in this chamber that the First Narrators did something they would regret."

"They Narrated themselves into an author."

Of course! It would prolly be on a day-by-day basis--- school by day, dreams by night, with a couple daydream sequences maybe. We'll see if I ever figure it out and decide to do it, idk.

Oh! C-Cricket! You're back! Er- you're . . . awake! she laughed nervously.

H-how are you feeling?

Her blood ran cold.

Like- like last time I . . .

Is-

Wait-

Did he . . . know? Scud, DID HE KNOW?

Her pulse and breathing quickened.

But- but he couldn't know . . .

She started to panic, forgetting that they were even talking.

Surely he was talking about something else-

But it wouldn't have been hard to figure out . . .

Her thoughts were spiraling.

Hey, Bat. Yeah, I'm fine. Feeling a tiny bit better. Are you okay?

Yep! Rose keeps getting bit by snakes, though. And I lost half of my best numbing agent…

He worried about her, though.

Can I hug you, maybe? Just for a second, and then you can send me back?

Bat flinched. I…

I’m sorry. I’ll… I’ll leave you alone.

He switched off the little radio and curled around himself, feeling suddenly like a dumb little kid who’d just broken a dam.

He just… he couldn’t understand what reason in the whole entire world anyone would ever want to be alone.

Tam drew her arms and legs into herself and turned the music up louder, trying to drown out her racing thoughts.

There had to be . . . some way to stop this from happening though. She was more than mature enough to control her emotions, but . . . she kept having these stupid panic attacks!

There had to be some way . . .

Some way . . .

A bunny hopped toward her suspiciously, nose quivering.
