His inky figure wiped away the spots that the dice were. There were two small holes, both the exact same size as either die. 

"Those dice must be put in the slots in a way that adds up to four." Desolation motioned at the white die with strange symbols. "You must, of course, use both dice available."

 

Rebus (prime) picks the dice up, turning them over in his hands and examining the symbols to see if he recognizes them. “My first instinct is to use the white die as a mathematical symbol. My second is to cut them both in half, but that is rather drastic. Do I get more than one attempt?”

Rebus nods thoughtfully. “We already have a Void… the Intelligence is decent, but it’s a rather long name…” 

The Ennulling orb in question continues to hover in the air, electricity arcing off the walls into it. Rebus makes a nearby nanoconstruct fill out some belated permits for messing around with Nullite.

"Yes, but you will find the answer is more... Intuitive than just trying thirty-six options. You can, of course, cut the dice in half."

Why would that be a problem? Or occur?

Rebus (prime) cuts both dice in half at an angle, using a molecular blade. He places half white dice facing down in both slots, then puts the black dice on top, rotated so one displays one pip, and the other displays three. “I did it, but I may have cheated.”
