"Na" The letters spelled. Then they rearranged themselves. "Brak Nullat." They spun around again. "Nullat." *shuffle shuffle* "achin."

The Enulling field dissipated Cricket's blast before it could hit Malevolence. "How are you doing that?" Malevolence asked. "No matter. I'll review the data to find out how to prevent this later." He pointed the shotgun spear at Cricket and opened fire, spraying a wall of metal towards the fledgling Enuller.

A metal shield sprouted from Malevolence's suit to block the bullet.

The thread trembled around Rebus. Run. it seemed to whisper. Flee before it is too late.

"Fine, FINE!" Tam cried desperately once she realized nothing was working. "I'll do it! Just don't hurt him!"

The Scribe nodded, and then began adding the layers of security and accessibility onto Parasite, and then, for added measures, buried it even deeper within the ground.

He then formed an office, much larger on the inside, placing it in the spot allotted to him. The back of it was the Control, an interface directly linked to Parasite that required his use and a Founder’s (Rebus/Ladybug) attendance.

“I’m finished on my side, then. I made a basic interface, feel free to give critique.”

"It looks good. We'll be able to access the control room, yes?"

Something invisible deflected his blade. "Did I mention the atomic bladewires yet? The name's a misnomer. They're a bit more than a single atom thick. But they are invisible. And practically indestructible." He bowed to Cricket. "What am I saying? Please, continue in your delusions of defeating me."

“Yes, but the controls will be very confusing, and as a precaution, I have countermeasures built in against any Narrator (other than MEEEEE) trying to understand it. Because that would be bad.”

Desolation laughed. He had killed* Narrators before. "My wonderful blade, Foreshadowing." It manifested in Desolation's hand. "Of course, it's quite the powerful tool."

*Technically not but Desolation is a bit of a egotistical one.

Rebus’s eyes grow wide, not with fear, but with interest. “Foreshadowing… it is a useful tool, but to be used sparingly. Otherwise, it can reveals conspiracies and machinations early, defeating the purpose.” He winks while his eyes turn steel grey. Tendrils of utility fog twist around his long coat, and he smirks. “Your blade is doing something to me, but I have prevented its primary function. I am no longer me, and never plan to be.”

Rebus smiles, a bit distracted by the climatic battle, the being who can threaten the Thread itself, and the fact his Author is about to go to sleep. “Excellent, excellent. We can put the control room on the other side of your interface, and my room next to it, diagonal to yours. Usually, of course; I believe we agreed the building should restructure from time to time.”

Rebus smiles fondly at the Thread. I’m sorry, but I will not flee more than I just did. I need to defend you, so I have cut my ties and am prepared for sacrifice.

The Scribe nodded. “‘Tis done.”

Good night! (This next is for the third part.)

A wind blew next to this version of Rebus, carrying a blue dust and fog. The dust coalesced into a rippling form of a man, and if Rebus had payed attention to the Dint. “Hey. I’m Afterimage. Need help?” Afterimage took in its surroundings as it considered.

Tam hesitated for a moment more, but . . . she couldn't let him hurt anyone else.

She looked at Cricket sadly, took a deep breath, and stepped back into the field-

-where she was immediately overwhelmed by the Nullifying power.

She wrapped her arms around herself and fell to her knees in the grass, but managed to stay upright- for now.

Good night.
Rebus looks at Afterimage. “Shouldn’t you speak orange? And I believe you fighting Desolation, if it comes to that, will cause more harm than good. If I am not conflating two characters, he eats powers.”

And truly, you are keeping me alive at the moment, counteracting my Author’s better judgment.”

"Narrators bleed through time like the carcasses  of deceased bugs." Desolation sneaked a strand of Foreshadowing into Rebus' pocket, one that would follow him wherever he went.

"They must be dealt with."

I should be going to sleep (I must wake up early tomorrow). But I’m not. Rebus mentioned it, actually.
“I believe if Devastation has contact with the power, he can siphon it into himself and is empowered, temporarily or permanently causing the victim to lose their magic and/or soul.” Rebus smiles. “Your Author has a tendency to name people the same thing. I am similar to what you described, but I never died. My sanitized copy - I got the idea from you actually - might. He should sleep now, as I am not speaking well.”

You are able to control and modify the security of Entoturis, but the Notblade is my own, and direct access to Parasite is simply much too dangerous."
