Okay. He looked around.

Do you want to summon a Narrator or something? I don't want to bother Tam with whatever she's doing.

She nodded. She decided to try Lady Bug, just to see if Gaioh had been right about summoning her.

“Lady Bug, Lady Bug, Lady Bug.” Saying that made her feel kind of stupid.

But Lady Bug did appear, dressed in leggings and a red performance coat and top hat. She threw confetti everywhere. “Good day! On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate that summoning?”

Shoe shrugged. There were no dancing animals, so I'd say pretty good. Are you competing with Bacon or something?

“I was patterned after him, after all. I thought it a fitting place to start.” She shrugged. “So what can I do for you?”

“I need to talk to my father.”

“Oh, of course! Are you coming?” She asked Shoe.

What should we do about Gaioh and the other one? he asked Beosta.

The most recognition he's given Bat in a long time :P

I love how he hates Bat so bad. It’s my favorite 😂

I guess…

“We’ll come right back,” she promised to them.

“Wait,” Gaioh said. “I… kind of want to go. Just… ask about things.”

Right. A visit from her father, to him, meant a visit from his world. She bit her lip. “Yes. Of course.”

”So I’m coming too,” Bat reminded everyone. Gaioh sighed.

“Right! Is that settled, then?”

I guess so.

Right before they left, a squirrel jumped onto Bat's head.

XD

They arrived in a desert, under the shadow of a large stone plateau. A man sat not far from them, cooking something over a fire, Shoe would recognize him from Beosta’s memories, and though it was clear he’d grown older, the sharpness in his eyes had not diminished. If anything, it was keener than ever.

Bat yelled and swatted at the squirrel. Beosta ignored him.

You ready? he asked her.

In the background, the squirrel continued to terrorize Bat.

Bat eventually just shut his eyes and ignored it.

She took a deep breath and nodded. She lifted her hand a little, but stopped herself. Had she just been about to take his hand? Mushy brained idiot.

She started toward her father, who stood slowly. She had a hard time meeting his eyes, but when she did, they were... soft.

She ignored the way her heart jumped with excitement. "Father," she began, "I wanted to ask---"

Before she could finish, he stepped forward and hugged her tightly. She gasped, tears welling in her eyes, and hugged him back.

But... but it wasn't quite as nice as hugging Shoe. Shoe never felt... almost rigid, like her father did.

She felt him move and dismissed it as unimportant---

---until something blunt and round hit her spine.

The others saw Hidel pull out a dagger with a ghostly looking blade that rippled in the light. Before anyone could react, he stabbed Beosta in the middle of the back. Beosta crumpled. A golden tendril of what looked like mist rose in the air above her. Hidel dropped the dagger, catching Beosta's inert body with the utmost care.

Lol…

I may or may not have made Pyk the Mystic equivalent to a Husk. (They aren’t evil, and they keep their brain as well, tho)

Pyk struggled against the Strands, shouting a curt command to Asher. “Throw as much Adari at it as possible!”

Throwing forth another hand, he attempted to slow time for the beast. Its Strands cancelled it out, but the air there seemed to twist.

{That… don’t put your hand there. It won’t come out quite the same.}

And what exactly is a Husk again? Gosh I ask that alot.

Asher nodded and grabbed alot of the adari and chucked it at the beast. All those years of baseball are coming in handy now. oh dear hamingja please let this work.

Shoe screamed.

He ran for her.

Hidel met his eyes. His gaze was hard again. "I'm sorry," he said. "But I need my wife more than you need my daughter."

He vanished in a puff of mist.

Up in the sky, the mist that had come from Beosta shuddered, then stopped moving and came down to float near Livetha. Livetha's nose twitched, puzzled, and she stepped away from it.

The dust cancelled out the Strand, but another took its place, and the door was ripped open.
[Wait.]

The Husk burst through the door, a mess of glowing yellow Strands darting for the two of them.

Pyk finally gained complete control of his body. Guided by his AI, he extended a hand, and a blue-purple fog rose from it towards the Husk, meeting and canceling the Strands. Around him, the Adari dust rose and approached the Husk. The two of them were locked into combat, neither able to get an advantage over the other. But the Adari dust was approaching the Husk.

Tenth looked down, and repeated an earlier statement.  I don’t know.

Charles nodded slowly. Very well. Meditate on that for a little while. Call for me when you have an answer.

With that, he vanished.

ohhhh

OHHHHHHHH

Dang, alright.

Shoe tried to grab ahold of Beosta's father, but it was too late, and his hands felt only mist.

No, NO!

He stared at the mist, then looked around wildly for . . . something. Surely this was a trick; surely Beosta was just playing a joke on him, or . . . or . . . or something.

He fell to his knees in the spot where Beosta had just been, shaking.

No . . .

Kion stumbles over his words for a second, trying to get out of the verbal trap. "I don't know - I assumed - I'm not saying you need to stay, but I've spent more time with you here than with anyone else, and I thought we could help each other figure things out, about what it means to be a Narrator and feel deeply that reality is malleable and thus unimportant, and what it means to not be a Narrator somewhere they're seemingly omnipresent, and can do anything I can do without risking themselves."

“Incase you’re unaware, I’m not omnipresent. I’m not that large, thank you very much. You have no idea how to talk to a woman, do you? First the whole rhetorical thing, now you’re declaring me fat.” Faunus said, crossing her arms over her chest, that one eyebrow still raised, expression flat. While that twinkle was still in her green eyes, the rest of her seemed unamused, although there was just the smallest twitch at the corner of her mouth, the barest upturn of a smirk.

They all looked on for a moment, shocked. Bat was the first to speak.

"So is she, like... dead?"

Gaioh nudged him with his elbow (pretty darn hard).

"Ow," he muttered.

Hacob briefly appeared. "You could be if you wanted to. It just takes concentration." Then he poofed away.

I must ask. Was your misspelling of dyslexic intentional?
