A slight smile split the man's face when he watched the recruit step into the alleyway, adress the darkness there loudly. His wore dark, nondescript clothing, leaned against a wall, mostly hidden by the shadows. A scar split his right cheek in half, nearly invisible by the darkness cast over his face by his hood. Courageous and strong, this new one. Good attributes for someone wishing to join the guild. It had been a while, since someone with his age and skills had requested to be a part of the guild. He had started to follow him, had asked a few questions of his own about him, and the answers he had received pleased him greatly. Finally someone worth spending some time with. After placing the hint with this place he had made sure he arrived before him, ensure that it was indeed safe. At least safe for him. For the candidate - that part depended greatly upon his skills and replies.

His hand closed around one of his daggers and he silently pulled it out of his sheath. His fingers flipped it into the air easily, caught it again and then he threw it at a spot close to the man's head.

"Hello." he replied, not bothering to speak loudly. "That depends. Do you have what it takes to join?"

Fadran eyed the dagger with amusement. "You certainly handle that with much more skill than that of your average street thug. Do I have what it takes to join, you ask? I'll answer you this: I'll not be a petty thief or an assassin for your alleyway gang. The only reason I would join your guild is for my own self-interests, and right now those self-interests benefit the both of us. I want information, you want new recruits."

He takes a step closer to the man, plucking the dagger out of the wall. "Does this answer satisfy you?"

The man raised an eyebrow and stayed quiet for a while, his eyes remaining on Fadran's figure, his fingers holding the dagger, his posture. He wasn't preparing for a fight, but he didn't doubt that this could change any moment. This applicant was dangerous - and he liked dangerous.

Amusement in his eyes he leaned against a nearby wall, his posture relaxed, despite remaining ready to act should it be neccessary. "It sounds like the truth." he replied wryly and spread his hands. "But I have to admit, I've heard more convincing speeches." His voice remained calm. The man interested him, he was more than the average thug, and that was good. He could always use someone who actually had some brain inside of their head, someone who had some motivation apart from money living in their heart.

"You intrigue me." he added calmly. "You've got some fire, I value that. Although you opened up another question: what will happen once our interests don't align anymore? Will you leave? Betray us to another guild? Steal our secrets and kill our members?"

He shrugged nonchalantly. "You said it yourself: right now your interests benefit ours. Right now. And afterwards?"

"I can't guarantee anything but this--if I ever have to change my affiliation, it will not be against you. I plan to make a mark on this world, and I'm going to need strong allies." Fadran looks him in the eye, stepping into the light of a half-broken lantern. "I don't suppose you would fill that description?"

"Are you willing to speak the oath? Bind yourself to us with tatoo?" the man asked, his voice calm, ignoring the Fadran's last words. He didn't need to proof anything. If he wanted, he could take care of him right here and now. But, he didn't want to. Fadran was interesting, strong in his will and mind. Let him serve the Ghostbloods until he grew tired. The moment he turned against them, they could always get rid of him. And if he simply left while keeping their secrets, well in that case he supposed he could close both eyes.

"Only the oath?" the man winked at him. "You realize that without the tattoo you won't have access to most of our secret bases?" Typical newbie. Didn't plan to stay, didn't plan to get the tattoo - it was always the same. Not that he would complain, at least this one knew what he was talking about and appeared to be competent. Compared to some others he'd met during his career that was an awesome plus.

With a smile the man lifted his left hand and sealed the fourth wall again, preventing other bold, crossed out or even italic formatted words from entering. "Welcome to the Ghostbloods." he said without stopping to smile. "If you need some information about our hideouts, or placed where you can go to refill your supplies I'm happy to help you out. Otherwise -"

he spread his arms. "Unless you have any questions and are sure you don't want to have the tattoo, that's it for the moment."

His eyes gleamed when he looked up into the sky. "You're familiar with the city? In that case, I'll concentrate on places that now have a greater relevance to you, than they had before. Otherwise, I can add a tour - but if you want a tourist guide you'll have to look for someone else."

"That's good." the man smiled. "You can call me Azriel. Did you already see the huge hospital? That's where we'll go now." He removed his cloak and rolled it up, tucked it under his arm. Then he started to walk out of the alley and along the next street, blending easily with the few that were still around this late at night.

"Don't worry, we won't take the official entrance and you most certainly won't end up a patient there." winking at Fadran he added. "At least not today. And then you already know where you can go, should you be injured later on. There is -" he flashed a grin, strangely delighted to have someone new by his side again. It had been a while and he wasn't entirely sure anymore if there was some kind of protocol to follow or not. It didn't matter, he decided. He'd give the guy everything he needed and if he forgot something, then it couldn't be that grave.

"When the hospital was built years ago, we influenced the architect a little bit, ensured some parts of the cellar were off limit for personal and other people. Instead, they belong to us. And once you've got the tattoo, you can access them, as well as several other safe houses around the city."

His steps were calm and relaxed, his eyes covertly observing their surroundings, just as he had been doing for years. They could already see the high building that marked the hospital a few streets over when he stopped in front of the side wall of a smaller house. The door was firmly locked, but when he touched his underarm with the tattoo against it, its lock opened with a soft clicking sound.

"We'll get you a list of houses you can use." he informed Fadran while he walked into the safe house, stairs leading downwards. "Your tattoo will give you access and of course inform some higher ups that you're here. If you are in need of assistance, you can request it, using a few devices in the back room, or you stay here, bunker down -" he shrug. "Whatever you need should be around. Food, water, first aid kits and things like that."

He didn't stop, instead opened another door, leading into what should have been a cellar of the house. "We have guarded locations as well, but this one here mainly serves as an entrance to the hospital." He threw a grin at Fadran. "And there are of course people living above us, so you better not get into a screaming fit. Could lead to awkward questions."

Behind the door were two rooms, one with two beds, the other one a combination of kitchen, conference room with a radio. "Nothing to explain here. Just make sure you inform the quartermaster when you take things with you, so that he can organize a restocking." Without a pause he stopped in front of an innocent looking piece of wall, and touched his tattoo against that one as well. It blinked, an then vanished, allowing them to gaze into a dark tunnel.

Sure! We're always happy over new GB characters. My only GB one this Era is Althea so I'm improvising a little here. If you want, you can claim that he joined a while ago, or we can rp him joining. In that case I can use another NPC, you stumble upon Fadran and the one I'm using atm, or he finds Althea.

Cassandra Adama stared at the building. It didn’t look like a secret organization’s headquarters, but she supposed that was the point.

She pulled out her letter. She’d written it several times over, but she thought that she had found the form that fit the mood the best.

So she slipped it under the door, and turned around, heading back to Lord’s shop.

My name is Cassandra Adama, the new metalurgist in the city, and I have a business proposition you may find interesting.

I’ve encountered the Ghostbloods on Roshar many times before, with different levels of... pleasantness... but you always had a reputation for power and for influence.

My deal is fairly simple: have the Ghostbloods use my shop for some of your supplies, and spread the word of its quality. In return, I will give you the names, descriptions, and abilities of every Metalborn within this city who visits my store.

As of now I don’t yet know whether I wish to take the oath and tattoo and join, but you may be able to convince me otherwise. I’ll be returning to my shop later today; you can find me there, or leave a note to set up a meeting to discuss details.

By all means, come and see the store for yourself - then you won’t need to exaggerate how worthwhile buying metals at my store is. I Soulcast most of my wares myself.

Augur arrived, smiling, at the Ghostblood headquarters. He had his rough cloak under his arm, his "Drane" cloak. He hummed softly to himself, a classical tune from back on Scadrial. 

As he opened the door, Augur noticed a letter. 

"Why, that's unusual," he said to no one in particular. In the back of his mind, Drane whispered in suspicion. 

He opened it.

My name is Cassandra Adama, it read. Augur skipped through the boring stuff.

Augur liked that proposition. He always wanted a new metalmind. However, he couldn't possibly know what to do with the name of every Metalborn. He'd take this letter to the council, let them deal with it.

He made a mental note to pay a visit to Ms Adama. 

Augur closed the door, and went into the Ghostblood base.
