While I agree that Kaladin is too young, he is definitely intellectual enough. He's a surgeon for crying out loud. He probably knows more about the human anatomy than she ever will.

Yeah, but there is a difference between being intellectual and being an intellectual. Jasnah has devoted most of her life to studying and being a scholar, whereas Kaladin is a spearman first, surgeon second right now, and I honestly think that his down to earth manner would not fit with the bearing Jasnah has. I also hold to my previous point that they are fairly incompatible, even if just because of Jasnah's ambiguous morals in the eyes of Kaladin.

I agree. Jasnah has been studying theology and philosophy, subjects Kaladin wouldn't even be able to interact on the most basis level. Also, he isn't a surgeon, he is an apprentice-surgeon whom never completed his formation which stopped when he was 15. In comparison, Jasnah dedicated her entire adult life seeking knowledge and widening her mind. I would say there is a difference in between having more knowledge than your average person in a world where most people are basically ignorant and being a scholar. Kaladin isn't a scholar nor does he have any inclination to become one: he is a soldier which had started a training as a surgeon which gave him more knowledge than most people, thus making him sound smarter than most.

Jasnah also is a poised, elegant woman evolving into the higher spheres of society. She isn't a down to earth person and I can't see her fall for someone without any knowledge of etiquette.

I personally see Jasnah as asexual, and find the idea of her falling in love to be contrary to the rest of her character.

Regardless, I don't see any aspect of her personality that would inspire attraction in Kaladin, particularly considering his distaste for lighteyes. Yes, he's attracted to Shallan currently, but that was due to the fact that she's been through a life every bit as painful and his, and yet still has the strength to smile at the world.

He saw it in her eyes. The anguish , the frustration. The terrible nothing that clawed inside and sought to smother her. She knew. It was there, inside. She had been broken.

Then she smiled. Oh, storms. She smiled anyway.

It was the single most beautiful thing he’d seen in his entire life.

Can you even begin to imagine cold, logical, Jasnah, who has shown emotion on less than half a dozen occasions, as the subject of these thoughts?

Hm. No, I don't think so. She certainly goes out of her way to look attractive and shows affection and care, especially towards her ward.

Spoiler! Don't read if you haven't read WoR yet.

Spoiler

Ivory said that while a person held enough Stormlight, only a crushing blow to the head itself would kill. She’d believed him, but storms that hadn’t made it any easier to lay there before the knife. Who would have expected them to stab her? Shouldn’t they have assumed that a blow to the head would be enough to—

Wait. Shallan!

“We have to go back,” Jasnah said, spinning. “Ivory, where is the junction?”

“It is not.”

She was able to locate the ship with ease. In Shadesmar, land and sea were reversed, so she stood on solid ground—but in the Physical Realm, Shallan and the sailors would still be in their ship. They manifest here as lights, similar to candle flames, and Jasnah thought of them as the representation of the person’s soul—despite Ivory telling her that was an extreme simplification.

They spotted the air around her, standing up on deck. That solitary flame would be Shallan herself. Many smaller lights darted beneath the ground—faintly visible through the obsidian. Fish and other sea life.

Nerves still taut, Jasnah searched around for the junction: a faint warping of the air that marked the place of her passage into Shadesmar. She could use it return to the ship, to…

One of the lights up above winked out.

Jasnah froze. “They’re being executed. Ivory! The junction.

I don't think, she'll ever be as emotional as Shallan, but she isn't as cold as she seems to be at first.

I think Jasnah is perfectly capable of falling in love, and will fall in love with the only person good enough, Hoid. And in a surprising Shakespearean twist, will find out she's his daughter.

No not really. I think she'll fall in love with Nazh :)

Zahel is old enough to be... Well I wont go there, but if he healed emotionally from the trauma of his early days (and Jasnah lived a long time) they might be a decent match.

I like the Nazh idea though, and I would agree that Kaladin + Jasnah is not really a compatable couple. Mostly because of conflicting oath interpretations (Ivory apparently doesnt take issue with Jasnah hunting bad guys, but i doubt Syl would see it as honorable even if Kaladin agreed. Also, Kal has a major chip on his shoulder for lighteyes, and Jasnah is extremely noble in bearing.

I honestly think she's going to find him insufferable, and vice versa, and then they will unite in a common goal, until in the end one will die just as they gain a sort of uneasy mutual respect.

Storms that escalated quickly...

Yes, Jasnah is definitely a lot more emotional than she lets on. However, I don't think she's trying to "look attractive", and is more like "power dressing" - see her comments to Shallan about the illusion of perception.

This is just a guess but I think Jasnah is bad at "relationships" in general (with family, friends, colleagues, let alone lovers) and also she is well aware of this. So to large degree she doesn't encourage close relationships with others and isn't seeking such things either. I suspect she was quite surprised with how well things went with Shallan for most of tWoK.

PS On this board, WoR does not need spoiler warnings.

I mean... the concept sounds ridiculous, but I can't help but imagine Jasnah accidentally crossing paths with Kaladin, and they're both on some super-important mission, and he makes Jasnah stop in her tracks.

The more I think about it the more I end up laughing at the idea of ever-so-important Jasnah turning into a befuddled mess at the sight of him, all while he's going "What's her deal?" :D:D:D

Though I'm primarily a Shalladin shipper, I like this idea. Probably won't happen, but I do think that Jasnah and Kaladin will accidentally cross paths, because he's the only Radiant, who was at Urithiru, on the ground right now and Jasnah doesn't know how to get to Urithiru. Syl will sense the Nahel bond between Jasnah and Ivory and I think they will go to Urithiru together. Or Jasnah will roam around alone. I don't know. Why is November so far away still?
