Wanderer Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Never posted before but felt like sharing. I was able to pick up my book today by some miracle so needless to say I'm pretty happy. Brandon has become my absolute favorite author and I've managed to avoid any spoilers thus far so I cannot wait to get started. Good luck to anyone trying to pick up the book. Also feel free to remove if this violates forum policy and if so I apologize. 4
Chaos he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 You're a lucky duck. I will be posting a topic clarifying the spoiler policy, but I'll tell you the punchline: wait a week before talking about it at all on the boards.
bartbug he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I'm jealous, but out of curiosity, how did you get it?
Wanderer Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 They called me today out of the blue. I walked in and I saw a new person behind the counter so I figure it's a definite error. I pre ordered from a small bookstore with only the one store. 1
Havon Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I suggest you don't tell anyone which store did this. Could land 'em a lawsuit.
Swimmingly he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Yeah, the boxes are kind of covered with "don't open until" signs. Someone made a shelving error, I'm thinking.
Chrono she/her Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Dang, I'm jealous. Best to keep this a secret. I feel bad for the poor new person that screwed this one up. Hope he doesn't get let go from his job for this. Otherwise, happy reading!
Wanderer Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 I'm definitely not going to throw them under the bus. I don't think they'll have anything to worry about I believe I'm the only one who pre-ordered so that may be the reason I got it if they only received the one copy. 4
Aminar Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 This isn't uncommon among small bookstores. I've gotten the last two Dresden books a week early. But this does hurt the author's ranking as far as Bestseller lists. In the case of big author's like Brandon and Jim Butcher it doesn't really cause much of a problem, but it is something to keep in mind. I usually pick up the audiobook at release and the like. Audible Credits are amazing things.
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Brandon has never hit #1 on the adult hardcover fiction list for a solo book. So a strict release date really does matter. 11
Aminar Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 This'll be the first. Guaranteed. He's had the time to gain exposure and it isn't a first in a series. Hell, his name hit Penny Arcade. 2
laeelin Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Brandon has never hit #1 on the adult hardcover fiction list for a solo book. So a strict release date really does matter. I didn't realize that was why release dates were so strictly enforced... good to know. I guess I should purchase all three copies I'm buying (audio + hardback for me, and hardback for my son.) release week then
Azul he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 now if only Amazon would make this mistake with my kindle... they could still charge me on the 4th so it doesnt interfere with sales! 1
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 If you find a store that will sell it to you on Monday instead of Tuesday, that is actually fine too. It just has to be after Sunday, because Sunday is the last day of the publishing week. 7
SirVarrock he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 How exactly are pre-orders through Amazon and similar counted? Is it based on when the book ships, or is everything added to the total on the release date? 1
Argent he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 On that note, actually - are the preorders from Weller scheduled so they arrive on exactly Tuesday, or just sometime around it? Because if I don't have Words of Radiance by about 8 AM on Tuesday, I am going to Barnes & Noble and buying one. And then returning it when my signed copy arrives.
+eveorjoy she/her Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 On that note, actually - are the preorders from Weller scheduled so they arrive on exactly Tuesday, or just sometime around it? Because if I don't have Words of Radiance by about 8 AM on Tuesday, I am going to Barnes & Noble and buying one. And then returning it when my signed copy arrives. Why not just get the ebook copy and read it on your computer or phone? You could use it later to copy and paste text for debates in the forums. 1
Argent he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Frankly, because I wanted to return it after I was done with it - I've got my own paper copy on the way anyway. But I'll consider, the ebook won't make me go broke... 1
PeterAhlstrom he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Weller does the best job they can to make the books arrive Tuesday, but shipping times can be unpredictable. They're just a small bookstore that has to use the local post office (though I assume the post office comes to pick up the books from them); they're not a big conglomerate that has fulfillment centers right next to airports.
lordofsoup Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I got my AMoL a week early. It was awesome. May or may not have had something to do with working at a bookstore.
AliceB Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I preordered WoR some weeks ago, and today I've received an email from Amazon: they tell me my book has been sent, and in the next 24 hours it should be safely in my hands.. I am from Italy, so maybe it's Amazon.it that is messing up, but I did order the Tor version and the release date was correctly stated on the Italian website (4th March). And in fact the ebook version, which I also purchased that same day, will be delivered to me only next week... P.S. me too I'm new, hi everybody 8
Cayden Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 gotta wait till the 6th for me haha. the curse of living in europe. so will likely just buy the ebook first thing in the morning and read that while waiting for the hard copy
Baine he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I have a friend with "connections" (her words) who somehow got WoR early, so I've read it. Waiting for the release is still torture, though, because I can't talk about it!
The Rooster he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) damnation me for pre-ordering thru B&N, they don't ship until the release date, But I couldn't pass up the no frills signed edition. Ohh well I'll stick to my old plan. Re reading the preview chapters Monday and dl-ing the ebook at midnight, binging all night. Luckily I'm off Tuesday for unrelated reasons. . Here's to being a zombie! Edited February 25, 2014 by AG Rooster
HydrogenAlpha he/him Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) I'm from Germany and Amazon.de sent me an e-mail saying that my order will be delivered by tomorrow. You can imagine i'm pretty excited, but it's kinda awkward that europeans recieve a US-book even before it's released there.Well, i guess you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. But atleast you have signings .. i wish i could have my copy signed.Edit: Seems like i kickstarted german economy WoR is number 1 on trending books at amazon.de Edited February 27, 2014 by HydrogenAlpha
