Are there certain spren for certain bonds?

Rebecca

Question

So my question is about spren

and bonds.

Question 1: Is a certain kind of  spren required for a specific type of bond. Like, for example, do only honorspren make  windrunner bonds? And if it is a certain spren for each bond, which spren is for each bond?

Question 2: Can the more simple spren make bonds? For example, windspren, firespren, or rainspren? Or do only more rare spren make bonds?

We actually know that only certain spren can bond to make Radiants/Surgebinders. Honorspren bond with Windrunner, Highspren with Skybreakers, Cryptics with Lightweavers, Inkspren with Elsecallers, etc. (I don't think we know all of the specific spren that make each order, but we know each order has its own spren)

Also, no, simple spren such as firespren or rotspren can't be bonded to make Radiants.

EDIT: If you're curious, here is where you can find all of the orders of Radiants.

@StrikerEZ is totally correct. Here's a WoB that states it explicitly.

QUESTION

The Nahel bond, what determines whether you get a Cryptic or an honorspren?

BRANDON SANDERSON

The spren themselves.

QUESTION

So it doesn't have anything to do with the Orders of the Knights Radiant?

BRANDON SANDERSON

Um, you have to attract the spren, the same way you attract emotionspren, you have to attract the right spren for the Order.

QUESTION

Could any type of spren bond with a person (even if the results wouldn't be a Knight Radiant)? Or only the ones associated with a branch of the Knights?

BRANDON SANDERSON

Ooh, that's an excellent question. This is something theoretically possible for a lesser spren to achieve.

There's something of an implication is that it isn't common, and/or has never and probably will never happen, but lesser spren could bond a person, but the result may or may not give access to surges, and would not result in a "Radiant" as we know them.

This answer was given in 2014.  Sanderson was asked almost this exact same question in 2010 and answered very differently, meaning, at least in his original outline for the series, no lesser spren was ever going to bond a person, otherwise he probably would've given a RAFO, or been a lot more dodgy; I've never known him to outright lie or give an explicit answer if he wasn't fairly certain.

QUESTION

Can all spren imprint on someone—like Syl has with Kaladin—or is this ability special to certain types of spren? (I just got a mental picture of a flamespren taking notice of the pyromaniac noble girl from the castle market exercise in your JordanCon talk. Not sure that would end well.)

BRANDON SANDERSON

It is special to certain types of spren. There you go, a non-RAFO.

As was pointed out it seems pretty clear in the books that only specific spren can  create the symbiotic relationship of the Nahel Bond. Further, at least to my eye it appears that not all spren are created equal. Something like a fire spren for instance does not seem to have a will of its own while a honor spren for example does.
