I really have no idea. Maybe Alendi will have his own book? Maybe he's originally from Yolen or Sel, or something like that.

If it isn't either of them, that raises the question of who/what else it could be.
No other characters have ever been depicted as 'Mist Spirits.'

There is a deleted (and no longer canon) scene where mist spirits of other shards make an appearance.

Even if that scene is no longer canon, that could still be something shards from other planets are capable of.

Didn't the mist spirit stab someone? Preservation couldn't do that without help, from what we've seen.

It's been a while, but I think that he's specifically said he won't be telling Alendi's story any more than what he already has.

There is probably something hidden in that event and He simply don't want to tell us, I think...Maybe Harmony may solve some doubt, with his Powers' Chronology

I always assumed it was preservation... It used the same strategy for Alendi and Vin. Stab someone and force the person to use the powers to heal the wounded person. It may have hurt someone but it did so in an effort to preserve the balance of things. Then there was the fact that the mist spirit began to disappear after certain events... Maybe I'm wrong and just assuming... Dunno...

Nono it's a different situation, the Mist Spirit killed Alendi's friend to avoid them to go too close to the Black Lake (Ruin's Perpendicularity), Alendi was no near to the Well of Ascension, therefore the "heal it with the power" doesn't apply there.

Much more, Preservation stabbed Elend under...."peculiar circumstances" it would be unable to do something like that without those oddities.

Perhaps we'll see Sazed making use of these "powers" down the road?

I suspect the RAFO is more related to the nature of Preservation/Ruin than it is about some historical fact involving Alendi.

Question: Was the black mist spirit that Alendi saw Preservation or Ruin? Which one?

Why did this rusting question get a rusting RAFO?

Well, it might be more relevant to future events than you think, or it could just be a random RAFO Brandon throws out sometimes to keep us on our toes so we don't form a picture based on what he's refusing to answer.

Sanderson did say that sometimes Robert Jordan used RAFO as less of a Read and Find Out and more of a "Read, Analyze, Feud, and Opt-in" (Note: by feud i really mean Discuss but i needed the F) maybe that is what is going on here. Maybe this is supposed to be more of a discussion point for us with no future relevance.

If it was black, then presumably it was Ruin given Vin's description of Ruin at the Well.

Then why it is not black when it later appeared to Vin? Vin did not see any difference between Ruin and Preservation as mist spirits, surely she would notice if one of them was black, no?

Ruin in the series mimics Preservation to made Vin distrusts him.

Ruin simply appeared differently than how he does by default. I don't even remember if Ruin actually manifest itfelf in those istances or simply used his grip to Vin's soul to show an Illusion (like he did with Ren).

I love me some Cosmere, but I'm still murky on the mechanics of everything that happened in Mistborn era 1. I would love to believe that it's a true RAFO and some stuff that went down will receive further clarification. For example I'm still very shaky on the gaseous, liquid, and physical forms of the shards, and how they relate to the actual vessels (Ati and Leras). I felt like it's the most hand-waving Brandon has ever done, which is still pretty good.

I didn't understand what your doubt is...But if you want some clarification, you could try to post your question in the Q&A section. Maybe someone could make that doubt clear
