My interest has been piqued

at this point I've heard the entire soundtrack once and I'm halfway through the bootleg. The main character has social anxiety, and there's a kinda running joke about people percieving him as gay. And the music is fantastic.

Something I heard in the halls:

"I'm sorry, this just isn't working out. I think we might have to end this"

"Why? What did I do wrong?"

"Oh, it's not you, it's me."

"Chulldung! If it were you, I'd have left you like the worthless trash you're claiming to be months ago. I asked you a question, and would appreciate an answer. Why are you doing this?"

I unfortunately wasn't able to hear the rest of the conversation.

I'm bored. SE Discord is inactive, IRC is inactive, and the Shard is inactive. It's also raining heavily outside.

Once again I'm under impression that every American can play at least one instrument o.O its a much less common skill here in Europe in my opinion.

There's a heavy correlation here between music knowledge and general nerdery. The sorts of Americans who are likely to hang out on a forum like this tend to be creative types, so you're going to see a much heavier representation of musicians and artists than you'll see in the general population.

Oh wow, I wanted to share some music as well XD

Heh, so Imma share (a) new song/s everyday, because I like stumbling around on the internet and finding new things.

Today a friend introduced me to Token. And well, he's a rapper yes, but he's a storming amazing one. His music is so...evocative and meaningful.

Exception. It might hit a little close to home for some of you guys. But, it honestly is one of the most awesome things I've observed.

I just found this. I'm assuming @TwiLyghtSansSparkles has seen it? Because it is awesome, funny, and about a pug. In spoilers - contains some mild irish cursing.

D&D player psychology tip: if there is something shiny at the bottom of a mysterious and possibly dangerous pond, *someone* will dive in.

They survived, but they had a good scare first :)

Hmm. Claincy, vaguely philosophical RPG question for you: should players do something dumb or reckless if it fits their characters and makes for a more entertaining story?

Or should they Dark Souls it the whole time, being super suspicious of everyone all the time everywhere?

Or is that just a question of group dynamics?

It does depend a little on the group but in general I'd say certainly. If a specific action is going to hurt other players' (or the GM's) enjoyment of the game then it's best to avoid it. But generally so long as your character fits with the style of game you're playing that's fairly easy to avoid. (If you're playing a murderhobo in a serious campaign you'll obviously run into trouble.) If you do it all the time it can start to mess up the game for other players, but now and then it can really add to it.

In my experience in most campaigns it's good to have some fun recklessness and silliness some of the time, especially if it reinforces one of the characters. Moments like that can also end up being some of the most memorable.

Grog from Critical Role is a great example of doing this well, such as his "haggling".

Edit:

I have a player in my current campaign that is a warlock of the great old ones who can't speak out loud, just laugh. And communicates by sending messages into nearby people's minds. He also makes frequent references to other planes and views eyeballs as a currency. He's also mad.

All of that is a recipe that could easily combine to be a destructive force to the campaign. (This campaign is moderately serious, plenty of room for silliness but there is serious stuff going on and murderhoboing will not end well.) However, the player is clever about how he plays it. He often freaks people out a little by speaking into their minds but only rarely causes major silliness & disruptions. He channels it into his own brand of silly humour, often at his character's expense, that just makes the game more fun and dynamic. :) He doesn't try to steal the spotlight from other players with it either.

I like my players :)

Hah, fair enough! I've only really got one game at the moment, and as the newbie, I keep worrying I'm doing things wrong, which is part of why I'm asking.

(I really need to get around to watching/listening to critical roll, though)

I would try not to worry too much, be mindful of how you act and you're generally ok. When you are unsure about something often the best option is to just ask the DM and/or another player. I'm perfectly happy to answer questions as I can I just don't know what you're group is like :)

Yeah, that's fair :P Like I say, I worry too much, about everything, always (as anyone invovled in the Oregon RPG can verify).

Other than Critical Roll, any good "campaign journal" type shows you would recommend? I know about Counter Monkey, but other than some journals on GitP, I don't have any other stuff to read/watch/whatever.

Matthew Colville makes some really good videos. Hasn't done campaign diaries recently but his other videos are good too. I don't actually regularly watch any other game diary or live play channels. (Time! :'( ) I can recommend a couple of session recording channels/series or a number of general D&D channels if you like?

  •
  • Acquisitions Incorporated (session recordings, very silly but fun)
  • Dice Camera Action (session recordings)
  • itmeJP (many many session recordings, I haven't actually watched much of them though)
  • Jorphdan (Forgotten Realms lore if it interests you)
  • WebDM (discussion channel)
  • Nerdarchy (mixed discussion and session recordings)
  • Dungeonmaster Mark (doesn't upload much now but there's some reasonably good stuff there)
  • Drunkens & Dragons (general)
  • Dungeonmaster Johnny (general)
  • Wyloch's crafting Vids (crafting)
  • Black Magic Craft (crafting)

Some of these I've watched a lot of, others only a little *shrug*. See what interests you :)

Cool thanks; that's stuff that's all available on Youtube, I'm guessing?
