I was not there, unfortunately; this was a story from years previously.

Cursed Child fixfic idea #394:

Spoiler

Harry and Draco patched things up years ago. Albus and Scorpius have Muggle friends and know their way around the internet. So when Draco offhandedly mentions finding a super advanced and rare time-travel device in his parents' basement, Harry doesn't freak out or demand his friend turn it in.

"Could it take us back to the time of You Know Who?"

"I suppose," Draco says slowly, "but why would we want to?"

"I've heard of this thing people do online. Contact a man, pretending to be a beautiful woman."

"Yeah, Scor's mentioned that. Catfishing, isn't it?"

"Yeah."

There is a moment of silence.

"He'd never fall for it. You Know Who never showed the faintest interest in women."

"He never met the Dark Lady Delancey Facade."

Another moment passes.

"Do....do you reckon we could be back by four?"

"Oh, I'm sure. It is time travel."

Does anybody know Brandon's mail address? He told us to mail him so he could put up links to our fansite on his page but I can't find his mail save for the "contact form" on his page.

@Sunbird, @Mestiv, @Darkness Ascendant, @bleeder, and anyone else who's interested: as requested, Awesome Songs on Spotify!

Let me know if there are any problems. There should be 110 songs; I don't know how Spotify works totally so maybe not all of them will be playable? IDK. But I hope I didn't just totally betray you all with my terrible music taste. :P

Also, if Spotify doesn't work for you, I should be able to make a YouTube playlist and a Google Doc within the next few days. :)

That looks a lot like some of the music I end up listening to, @Slowswift, though not exclusively. I love it.

Would anyone be interested in my Nostalgia playlist? I'm a 90s kid, so you'd have to either be one as well or just be interested in that music. I've been carefully cultivating and building it up for a little while now, though.

I actually have a scene or two in mind. Not sure if I'll go anywhere with them, though.

Throw them at us, perhaps in Creative Corner tho. And we'll see if we can bounce them back effectively.

That would be it.

Oh, by the way, I have the playlist set up so that it stays more or less proportional and no one artist dominates: ergo, I try to keep to a rule of no more than five songs per artist.

So! Lasik happened!

Beware, for I describe things here that some people might find squicky:

Spoiler

It all started two weeks ago when I went in for the consult session. They did the most intensive eye exam I'd ever had, measuring pretty much every little piece of my eye. They dilated my pupils so they could see everything inside, checked the health of my eyes, and of course determined my exact prescription (spoiler alert: I was super-blind). At the end of it all, the surgeon went over every scrap of information with me, finally saying that I was a near-perfect candidate. My eyes were in excellent health and my corneas good and thick and in good shape. So I said OK, folks, let's do this thing!

(Apparently near-sighted folks like myself tend to have thicker corneas. It gives us a bit of an advantage there.)

On Friday, they did one more pre-op exam, mostly double checking to make sure the surface of my eyes looked good and to verify my prescription level. Oh, and they gave me a valium to calm me down, cause I was nervous as hell. Once the stuff kicked in it was kind of weird; it was kind of like being drunk but without the fun giggly parts. I needed a bit of help to walk without wobbling over. But it did settle my nerves a bit, so that was good. And they also put the numbing drops into my eyes. So I didn't feel a thing for the next bits.

The first step of the procedure was to cut the flaps on my corneas. There are some places that still use a blade for this (and actually some procedures that require the use of a blade), but mine were cut with a fancy-schmancy femtosecond laser. (I assume the femtosecond part was how quickly it could react to any movement of my eyes.) They laid me down on a table, covered each eye in turn with tape, gently put on a device that held my eyelids open, and the machine sort of suctioned onto my eyeball and cut the flaps. Laser-cut means that they're much more clean and precise, making them heal much more easily afterwards.

Once that part was done, they had me get up and move to the next room. And yes, it was OK for me to open my eyes and blink and whatnot; eyeballs have a lot of surface adhesion to them. There was no danger of anything moving.

Then they laid me down on the next table and topped off the numbing drops. Again with the tape over one eye while they worked on the other. The biggest challenge I had was keeping both eyes open; squeezing the taped one shut messed with the muscles on the active eye, which even though they used the eyelid holder again would cause problems, so I had to force myself to keep the other eye wide open. Most of the problem there, really, was that the lights were so bright.

On each eye, the surgeon carefully moved the flap back, had me focus on the green dot for the laser, a few seconds of Laser Stuff happened, and then it was done. He then wet down the eye and gently smoothed the flap back into place. And James got to watch all of this magnified on a big screen; he had a much more interesting view of things than I did.

There's no bandaging or anything afterwards; again, surface adhesion holds the cornea flaps in place just fine; it's the same concept as what holds a contact lens onto your eye. The first 24 hours is the most delicate time; I've had to be very careful not to rub my eyes or get anything in them. The last two nights I had shields that I taped over them to keep them safe. Starting tonight, I don't have to wear those anymore; I'm still careful not to rub, but things are healing really, really quickly.

They gave me prescriptions for lots of drops. I've got an anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic, and artificial tears. The most discomfort afterwards is caused by dryness; it'll be a while before my eyes don't need help with that anymore. It's been amazing how quickly things have changed; I went in for my post-op checkup on Saturday morning and they cleared me to drive. I got most of the 20/20 letters and even a couple of the 20/15 ones - and by that evening I was seeing way more clearly than the morning checkup.

Oh, and incidentally, those anti-inflammatory drops about ten minutes after I apply them cause this weird metallic taste in the back of my mouth. It sounds crazy, but it's true; all that stuff is connected back there. I told the doc, and he grinned and said that's how I know they're working. Now I know how a Mistborn must feel when they swallow badly and get their metals stuck in the back of their throat. Blech; at least I'm done with the medicated drops after a week. The artificial tears I use as long as I need them.

But I can see now! Really really well! Guys, Lasik is wizard science.

I have noticed a strange phenomenon amongst young elementary schoolers. When riding on the bus, they hold up their hands for high-fives when older children are let off. I remember, as a young child, doing this myself. It seems to be an insatiable need for contact with the wiser, higher beings that are 11-year-olds. What is the true reasoning behind this phenomenon? We may never truly know.

Why, my good Mistrunner, the only plausible explanation is that these young children are actually Knowledge Gremlins, terrifying creatures who absorb the powers of wiser, higher beings such as 11-year-olds through hand-to-hand contact. :P

We have a small flock of seagulls that hang out nearby.

I live in Kansas.

Those seagulls are very, very lost.

Not as lost as you'd think. Many kinds of gulls will hang out wherever there's a large body of water, regardless whether it's actually the ocean.
