Silverblade5 he/him Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 @TwiLyghtSansSparkles Have you ever had a situation where a book disappeared from the catalog after being checked out by a patron? Because that recently happened to me with AU. When going to return it, I'd first checked to see if I had any fines to pay (I'd forgotten the due date). I didn't, and thought I was lucky with the date. But then I noticed my "books checked out" counter was empty. I thought that was odd, and checked with the person at the desk at the time. Sure enough, it was gone from the catalog. Anything like this ever happen to you?

It could be that the computer mistakenly marked it as lost or something similar and took it out of the catalog, which would explain why a barcode scan fixed it. When I scan a book marked as lost, the computer enters it back into the system. Then again, it never really deletes lost titles in the first place.

Last time I had something long enough for it to be considered lost, there had been a huge replacement fine on my account until I returned it. There was no such fine here.
Sunbird she/her Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Re: lost library books, my university library has TWICE lost books after I'd returned them, and then blamed me for it. The first time, I told them I'd already given it back and they eventually located it and stopped trying to charge me fees. The second time, however, they couldn't find the missing book after a few searches and made me pay 2.5 times the price of a new unused copy on Amazon to replace the book that THEY lost. I've sworn off checking out any more hardcopies from those jerks.
Quiver he/him Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 (edited) ... I got my yearly review at work. The main complaints they had about my work were: "You apologise all the time for stuff that isn't your fault. You should not do that." "You have so many holidays, start using them, you can't save up enough and take a full year off " I think it went well. Edited January 19, 2017 by Quiver 5
Claincy he/him Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 So tonight while chatting with a friend after our D&D session (irl) I kind of unintentionally referred to myself in third person..as Claincy. I'm not entirely sure what to make of that. 2
