Amaror Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) I just recently started to read Bands of Mourning and noticed that the Newspapers in the Kindle-edition didn't have any plain text afterwards explaining what's written in them. That was one of the things I liked most about the previous 2. Era Mistborn books. There are so many informative drawings in Brandon's books and any notes and hidden secrets are always impossible to read in the kindle editions. It's really annoying. I even checked if there was an update for this. Nothing on auto-update and I even asked the amazon support, but they apparently have no such update availible. I feel quite a bit disapointed now. The books are really good, but they are allready quite expensive considering the amount of content they provide in comparison with Brandons other books. And now some of the content that is there is basically unreadable. Edit: Just noticed I accidently put this in the spoiler thread. If a mod could move it into the regular Mistborn Thread, it would be great. Thank you. Edited September 19, 2016 by Amaror
Argent he/him Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I am not sure if you are asking about something, or just expressing general displeasure. Either way, I sympathize with your frustration, but the only advice I could give you is to maybe just walk into your local bookstore, pick up a copy of Bands, and look at the broadsheets right there.
WeiryWriter he/him Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 It's also been posted on Brandon's website. 1

It was meant for multiple questions. Why wasn't this fixed yet? It's been half a year and this is an online book, it can easily be updated and has happened before with Brandons books and this is a rather large fault of the book. I expected a bit more service there, considering these books, while good and worth it in my opinion, are on the lower end of the content/price ratio. And why don't they do something similar with the other books of Brandon? Having a clear text of all those tiny notes on the drawings would help A LOT. Exspecially since they often feature information about the world or at least nice little easter eggs.
DeTess she/her Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Doesn't your e-reader have a zoom function for images like this? I can zoom in on mine (A Kobo something) and read them without much trouble.
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I have a Kindle and it did give me the bigger version of the newsletter. I could also zoom in on the full page broadsheet. Not sure what's going on with yours...

Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 You should have the larger broadsheets though... I do.

Argel he/him Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 The Kindle PC app does not as far as I know have the ability to zoom in. Seems like a crazy oversight....

The ambiguity in its title make it sound like a either really awesome historical play, or potentially an adaptation of the events of Mistborn Era 1, but for kids. Like a historically-accurate version of Disney on Ice, but with Allomancers and Steel Inquisitors. The weird part is, I'd like to see both versions. 4 hours ago, Secrets said: Having the where of the having of when? It's an actual quote by Spook. Hide contents I know, but I've always had an interest in *ahem* High Imperial.

It kindof works with the notes on maps and stuff in other BS books, but the text in the newspapers is so tiny and low res that it's even difficult to read when zoomed in completely.
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I think it must be an issue with your download or device. I have the Fire and I have no problems with either the zoom function or the larger text versions of the newsletters. Actually, my zoom worked well enough for me to use the face of the person on SH's cover as a model for a drawing, which requires very good resolution.

The regular Kindle with the e-Ink screen is far poorer with images like that (I have one myself). The Fire is basically just an Android tablet like any other, while the basic Kindle is very different. Great for text, not so much for images. jW
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 It doesn't explain why you don't have the larger text after the newsletters though, because I have it in every ebook version of BoM just like the other books. The text shouldn't be different.

Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 The OP didn't. That's what is really strange.
Shardbearer he/him Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Hmm, the broadsheet text was missing right after release on my Kindle book, which I reported in the typo thread. Peter replied and said there was a update to fox this already. I'm pretty sure I updated it then and read the broadsheets on my Kindle book.
