What if this Shard that just wants to hide is worse than Odium?

The intent of 'Terror'.

To terrified to sleep lest something deadly occurs.

To terrified to eat lest it eat something deadly.

To terrified to breathe lest it breathe something deadly.

To terrified to... well you get the picture.

(I say it as we dont know the sex of the shard holder)

Now why do i say it could be worse then Odium?

Playing along the lines of this being true, then what happens when a lion backs a terrified mouse into a corner? Itll attack.

I can see Odium catching up with Terror and backing it into a corner, only for the intent of Terror to flip back onto itself.

And he who was Terrified, now becomes Terrifying. A force of pure terror greater than Odium.

Then you have 2 shards that need contending with or if Terror destroys Odium during their confrontation.

Chull #445.

Yeah tried to think of a way Brandon could twist intents. Been watching to many of his lectures lately.

goody153.

At first i thought this shard could be Fear. But then you know Brandon.

Like Kelsier says....

'Theres always another secret.'

I thought there was a WoB somewhere where he stated the intent of the shard that is hiding has nothing to do with why it is hiding/focused on surviving. To clarify, the shard is not hiding because it is the shard "cowardice". Basically Honor, Cultivation, Ruin, Preservation, etc all could have been that shard. Just because they want to honor, cultivate, ruin, preserve, etc doesn't mean they wouldn't have a reason to hide. Now obviously they aren't, but I was just using that to illustrate the point.

Here is that WoB:

I asked if the Shard that just wants to survive has something like the intent of fear. Brandon replied that that shard's intent is only tangentially related to what's going on.

That shard is well aware of what is going on in the Cosmere, and is smart enough to try and just get away from it all.

It could also be something like Serenity or Tranquility, or an Intent that just wants to maintain a peaceful or calm state of existence.....so knowing what was going on in the cosmere and isolating itself so it could just exist free of the greater cosmere conflict....that would count as just wanting to hide and survive while still only tangentially being related to its Intent. Its isolation isn't purely driven by its Intent, but it creates the conditions its Intent prefers.

WeiryWriter.

damnation i kind if liked the Terror theory.

Ohh well at least my internet actions are now monitored by National Security. Lol

Now we need to find a terror cell call a 'Shard' that is worse than 'Odium'. Is it in the US?Oz? We gotta find this Shard. Lol says National Security.

ROSHtaFARian2.0.

I like that theory.

Suck cause it will be over 10 years before we find out.

It would be cool if tranquility was a shard and then the book set wherever it decides to invest itself has some awesome malcontent character shattering tranquility. In every sense of the phrase.

Could it just be Frost and/or The Letter Recipient? Or has it been confirmed that it's not him or he doesn't have a shard or something? I always assumed he had a shard given his place in the Cosmere, but I don't know. I could see Frost having a shard like Wisdom or Patience or something.

He's been confirmed to not be a Worldhopper, but we don't know if he has a Shard or not.  I lean towards not, but it's possible.

Yeah, now that I think of it, I really doubt he has a shard. I was thinking, "why would Hoid try to get help from someone without a shard?" then I thought, "Hoid doesn't even have a shard, sucka!" Plus, how do you send a letter to a divinity? It's not like Harm's got a p.o. box or something. Haha...ha...hm... I got it! Cosmere Postal Service. CPS. Bad acronym, consider revision, moving on. We can put a coffee shop inside. Shardbucks? Terrible... Taln's Scarbucks? Way worse... We'll get back to that later. Either way, I think we've just found a money maker, ladies and gentlemen.

Nobody enjoyed the idea of Shattering the Tranquility? :(

Seriously, we should suggest this to Brandon. That would be so funny, even if it isn't explicitly called tranquility in book, if that is the shard we could all share a laugh.

Oh and @zeppomarks... You have seen the bit about the restaurant at the end of the cosmere, right?

@Djarskublar Lol, I missed your tranquility idea earlier. I think that would actually be pretty interesting. I'd love to read a novel where a shard gets shattered by a mortal. The malcontent's name? Taravangian Bickle? Holden Kalfield? Somehow combining Vin with V from "V for Vendetta" and making sense? V-in? Veen?

This is the first I've heard about the restaurant at the end of the cosmere, but I like where this is going. Where might I find it, pray tell?

@Djarskublar @Rasarr Ha! That's awesome. I'm really looking forward to seeing that place in action. I mean, one of my favorite parts in WoK is the first interlude where you get to see Demoux and Galladon interact, and that's just a taste of the awesome the the Restaurant could provide.
