The Honor Spren she/her Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 So here I was, feeling all accomplished that I had eaten some chicken. I believed ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* anything was possible *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ and naturally, I decided to get a bowl of cereal for dessert. I thought, "oh, I'll just let it soak in the milk for a little bit. It'll be fine." But it turns out that honey bunches of oats has little crunchy bits that are even crunchier than I realized. After causing myself pain and coming to the conclusion that my attempts were futile, I cried a bit, gave the bowl to my mom, and went upstairs to take my pain medication. Oh, and congratulations, Kaymyth. 1

Oh, and congratulations, Kaymyth. Honey Bunches of Oats are delicious. Unfortunately, they're also great for nearly breaking your teeth. Either way, hope you feel better soon!
Sunbird she/her Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 It's that time of the semester... I'm not even kidding. The good news? If I get a zero on the paper, I'll still have to score under 40% on the final exam in order to fail the class. (Since I've averaged about 82% on previous tests in this class, I seriously doubt I'll do that badly.)
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I know it's part of my job. I know it doesn't usually take much time. I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I know the people who ask do it because they need help. So why do I hate holding a patron's hand while they work the copier or print a document or try access their email so much?

You must let go of the intellect and give in to the heart to achieve transcendence, my child. Or, in other words, you must struggle against the "oh, pugs, not this again!"

I think often its not about the intellectual capabilities of those people. They just didn't have any chance or need to learn it before. Like many people in USA don't know how to drive cars with manual transmission, while its considered a basic driving skill here in Europe. That doesn't mean US drivers are dim or anything, right? They just didn't have a chance or need to learn it.

I'm making "pugs" a curse now on the Shard. Your problem is real, @TwiLyghtSansSparkles; you're there to assist, not do whatever it is for the patron. I mean, the copier and printer thing is valid, people have problems with those (they're evil, fickle pieces of machinery), but if you have an email, you should be able to access it without someone else's help. I hear a lot of stories like this, and it's often the same people over and over. If they're just now learning, that's fine, but if they're asking for the same help with the same tasks week after week... But you're quite right. I shouldn't assume that all of them fall into the second group. (Though I do consider it a point of personal shame that I still haven't conquered driving a manual transmission.)
Chaos he/him Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Facebook just gave me a targeted ad on my feed. Usually I hate crap like that, but then it said "Best Fantasy Since Brandon Sanderson." Okay Facebook, if you at least do that then that's at least appropriate targeting. Unfortunately they were comparing the book to Mistborn, and it felt urbany like the setting of Luthadel with girls with knives. Sure, I guess, but that's kind of the least important thing that's cool about Mistborn. I don't know, I like my fantasy book pitches to not sound like generic fantasy stuff. Dark Lord won? Okay I'm in. Random crap about someone and a sorcerer... meh. Still though, Facebook, A+ for trying! 2
Mestiv he/him Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 @Kaymyth it's quite hard to learn a different system when you have years of experience with the other. I remember I used to press the break every time I'd normally press clutch when I got to drive a car with automatic

I wanna learn how to drive a manual (after I learn how to drive an auto). Hey, guys, I want to get one of the Mistborn charm necklaces for Christmas. Which metal should I get? I can't decide.

And frustration would totally be appropriate if you had to keep showing the same person the same basic thing.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Automatic and manual transmission are both easy to learn I drive a manual because it's much funner. I can switch to automatic with minimal adaptation as well. The only muscle memory that interferes is that I tend to try to reach for the stick shift. @bleeder Learn whatever helps you pass your driver's license test. I actually used my driver instructor's car because that's the one I used to practice the parallel parking portion of the test and I did not want to mess that up and have to spend more money to take it a second time. Manual is very easy to learn nowadays, the more recent cars are much more forgiving than they were in the past.

For me, personally, I'd go for gold or tin. Based off of what Misting I'd want to be is how I chose.

Yeah, there are some of those people. Today we got a patron who always comes into the library in a huge rush, wanting us to log onto her email from our desk computers and print things for her. And there's one librarian who does, but it's very much against policy. So she tried to basically wear me down--acting like she didn't know how to log on (and I know she does, I've shown her before) saying "There's one lady who does it for me--I think she's the supervisor" (she's not)--and finally left when I wouldn't do it for her. Those people are awful, but it's the ones who are genuinely learning that I feel bad for being annoyed at.

Being unable to drive his car is inconvenient, and I really have no excuse aside from lethargy. And the fact that every time he offers it's in a place with actual traffic and I'd be too freaked out about possibly stalling the car in front of people who are trying to Get Somewhere to really relax and focus on learning. What I really need is to find a huge, empty parking lot to practice in until I've got the feel of it down into my muscle memory. 1 minute ago, TwiLyghtSansSparkles said: Yeah, there are some of those people. Pretending to be clueless just so someone else will do the work for you is something that aggravates me to an irrational degree.

I just kept refusing until she tossed off a sarcastic "Thanks for the help" on her way out. Though I did derive pleasure from telling her that our supervisor was a young man while the librarian who helped her was not.
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Have you watched ghostbusters (2016) @TwiLyghtSansSparkles? Do u get people like the dude chrisnhemsworth was playing as in ur library?

If they click the wheel instead of the left side, I'll know it's going to be a looonnnng couple of minutes.

Kaymyth she/her Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 You know what's amusing? Listening to a vegetarian trying to convince an omnivore that gizzards are delicious.
