Ben Percy's Green Arrow.

Rebirth had me optimistic. Overall, #1 was alright, but lines like that -and certain moments in it- make me very wary. Percy's track record doesn't help.

Here's the thing, there's a cool moment in the book where Green Arrow is talking to a guy who the villains are paying... and offers to double what they are giving him for information. And he pull's the same trick with a group of cops.

And he explains that "I'm not rewarding bad behaviour, I'm encouraging goodness".

Thing is, we see stuff that Queen Industries does to help people. Oliver shows a montage of the various projects he's involved in; financing community parks, shelters for abuse victims and the homeless, social works programs. And Green Arrow's whole schtick requires money; it's expensive to be a vigilante!

Could flashing around such money be an issue? Absolutely! But Black Canary's reaction to it, where she is contemptous of Ollie -"How can you help the People if you're the Man"- makes me... concerned. Percy does social commentary with all the nuance of a bag of bricks, so I'm kind of legitimately concerned that we're heading towards "Rich People can't be Good People," and Oliver is going to drop all of his money and go fullstreet mode.

Which is annoying, because I actually really liked the idea of Oliver using his money in the ways he did. It helps differentiate him from Batman.

Spoiler

No, don't take away his money, that's the most versatile superpower of them all! Although, it'd be somewhat of comic cosmic balance, as a trade for all the Marvel characters that are suddenly getting rich.

@The Honor Spren I don't know where you got that thought from, but if animals are people, then I'm gonna demand my cats to go to work or register as unemployed :P

Also, I'm number 5 on the list of popular contributors of the week... I've never thought I'd be on that list :o :D

Just last night that was me in #5.  You have defeated me!

Buffy:

I must say, "Graduation Part 2" really tapped into the high school nostalgia of its viewers. I for one will never forget the moment I had to arm my entire graduating class to fight the mayor before he ate the principal.

…..

Good episode.

Almost completely unrelated but this made me think of that movie "The Faculty".

Jon Stewart, what are you doing?

Spoiler

Sounds like you had a fun high school. We were only ever commisioned to go zombie hunting with the teachers. Sure, being able to tag along with the Hulk was pretty fun but not if you have to do it every single day. They wouldn't even let us blow up the dimensional rift to the hell dimension.:ph34r:

On breaking news, Mestiv overtook Delightful on this week's reputation chart. Indeed he seems to have found the secret to riding the Rep train.

Yeah. Just happened to me. <_<

You sure it's not one of those things that sounds way worse outside of context?

...Details?

For me myself, not exactly. If I don't want to read something I usually don't care enough to be annoyed at the spoilers and if I actually care about what's going to happen in a story I avoid spoilers like the plague. For stories that I stopped caring about what happens... well you watched first hand.

I'll double-hide it, as it's a Cursed Child spoiler that was leaked on Tumblr.

If you want to avoid spoilers, go no further.

Apparently, it's a time-travel plot where Albus and Scorpius try to fix things by going back in time. They create a bad future where...

Harry is dead, Al hasn’t been born, and Voldemort rules all. Draco Malfoy is Head of Magical Law Enforcement and condones the elimination of Muggle-Borns.

Ok, Jo, I get that it's your story and you can do whatever you want with it. And I accept that some readers/viewers will have no problem with this portrayal of Draco, but for the last two books, I identified with him. And the more time passes and the more I drift away from my parents and upbringing, the stronger that identification becomes. He was raised to see evil as good and good as evil, and when he saw the results of that mindset, it terrified him. And when the war ended, he overcame his prejudice—and let me tell you, overcoming prejudice is not easy. It's the exact opposite of easy, and he did it anyway, because it was right and he was sick of doing things wrong.

But Rowling rejects this interpretation in favor of removing everything that gave him resonance. Her Pottermore article on him even used the phrase "inconveniently awakened conscience," so you can see how much respect she has for this character's internal conflict. And….I might be taking it too personally here, and I know I probably am, but again, I identified with this guy. His conflict was my conflict. His lack of triumph at the end of DH was irritating, but there was always fanfic, and now Rowling is determined to take that away too.

It's like…..it feels like she doesn't want people like me in the fandom. Like, if I see Draco as anything other than the barely-decent-human foil to her precious Harry, she's going to do everything in her power to take away everything that struck a chord with me.

It's stupid, and I shouldn't be so upset, but I am.

Spoiler

<_<

I'm not sure what's worse, completely invalidating the very premise of the play by going to a different timeline (although, I guess the children will stick around in the alternate timeline but it's still a bait and switch), Harry dying completely dooming the world as the one ultimate person, instead after some more bloodsheat Voldemort getting blown up by severall attack helicopters or the characters assassination you mentioned.

Sure that the source is reliable?

Well, it's looking like it was the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff that was responsible for the character assassination, so I'm feeling less ragey now. And apparently, if the source is to be believed, there's this bit:

Harry sympathizes with Draco and Draco has a line where he says something along the lines of “Do you know how lonely it is to be Draco Malfoy? I can never escape the rumors and the accusations and the suspicion” and it is really sad but very redemptive.

Fine, all right. I tend to think he would've seized his own destiny and actually done some good to try and deflect the suspicion, but sure. And apparently, his wife is dead at this point in the timeline? So, what the heck, JK, you can't let the guy be happy?

And I think it's reliable. It seems to be a summary from someone who saw the play early, and the details mesh with several similar summaries, so as far as I can tell, it's reliable.

Maybe I need to reevaluate my life.

But I'll do it while wearing a fabulous bucket on my head.

Also, when I was upset a minute ago, Bruce apparently picked up on it and rushed over to lick my face. He is now snoring next to me and refuses to leave my side. I have the best dog ever.

I just found out Agents of SHIELD season 3 has been released on Netflix (!) and I told my mother, "I'm going to tell everyone I know!"

Mom: "You've already told me."

Thanks, Mom.

My own weirdness feels threatened! I . . . um . . . stayed up all night rearranging my furniture and making rice pudding? Yeah, not as cool as yours . . .

This walrus was the first meme I ever remember seeing. Somebody at my middle school had a print of it that she brought to school and could not stop showing everyone and cracking up about. (This was like back in 2005 or 2006, so it's an oooooold meme.)

Fantastic news!! Although I get Agents of SHIELD on Hulu-plus, I was lax about keeping up with the episodes and watching them before they expired, so I've still got like 8 eps left in season 3 and only 5 of them are available on Hulu right now. Plus, no ads on Netflix is a major bonus.

Amen! In related news, apparently the Hamilton Broadway cast is going on tour around the USA in the 2017/2018 musical touring season and one of their stops will be in Salt Lake City. No word yet on when tickets will go on sale or how much they will cost, but I super wanna go.
