Nashan’Elin he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Inspired by the useless uses for useful powers thread, I decided to create this. The goal is to think of some horrible side effect of using a Cosmere power. For instance: Burning tin right before someone rips a big fart. Ewwwwww Or: Tapping pewter and accidentally breaking out of your clothes (in public) Try thinking of more! 6
Kardenal_13 he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) Why would you break out of your clothes when you burn pewter?Stormlight intake: being scared by a movie and drawing some in, start glowing. Fifth Heightening: No more Booze/Drugs (good or bad depending on your POV). Depending on what "toxins" means probably no more anesthesia either. Elantrian: If you have bad handwriting you can't use magic.Soother/Rioter: No one ever trusts you again. Edited March 16, 2016 by Matt Snow 1

Tap pewter Feruchemically, not burn it Allomantically. I like your ideas!
tobar14 he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Storing Iron (weight): you are walking outside trying to have a conversation and the wind keeps blowing you like 10 feet away. (side thought, you can turn yourself into a Kite!!) Tapping Speed: Try to play a prank on someone by moving them to a different spot, their organs are liquefied by accelerating and decelerating to quickly. Copper: Same thing as smartphones. Everyone is super smart, but only if you are allowed to look it up first. Storing breath: people think you are hyperventilating and try to help you, interrupting your storage. 4
tobar14 he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Not the same but along the same thought. Nightwatcher: Ask the nightwatcher to be more physically attractive. Nightwatcher makes everyone else ugly. 5

Bowiespoon he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Gets a cool scar to let women know you are Bad-A, stormlight healing. Kaladins brands didn't heal, so maybe if you brand yourself.....
king of nowhere Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 use atium compounding to stay younger, lose the free ride on public transportation that you'd get as a senior citizen. When you try to get aboard for free by showing your ID card, you also get arrested by the police for supposedly having a fake ID 3
tobar14 he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Kaladins brands didn't heal, so maybe if you brand yourself..... That's because Kaladin see's himself as a slave still. Good point though, if I identify myself as a cool leather-jacket wearing, cigarette smoking, scar having type, then it won't heal. That raises another question. If you are a long time smoker, and you are fully aware of the state of your lungs, and you all of a sudden get the ability to inhale stormlight, would your lungs heal?
Khyrindor he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) Kaladins brands didn't heal, so maybe if you brand yourself..... As an aside, they only didn't heal because he considered them to be part of him, instead of a wound. EDIT: Ninja'd Edited March 14, 2016 by Khyrindor

baby he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) No, the healing properties of stormlight are affected by how you see yourself, and how others view you too (but to a lesser extent). For example, Kaladin's brands didn't heal because he sees himself with them, he accepted them, to say. Renarin's vision healed because he began to see himself as a warrior, and warriors don't wear glasses. The others viewing you part comes in to stop you from 'healing' back into a jacked, 6ft 6 man, when you're actually just a skinny 10 year old. Edited March 14, 2016 by Onceler

If you see yourself with ruined lungs, then no, they won't heal. Even worse, but befitting the theme of this thread, if you quit smoking, or get your lungs cleaned by some new medical procedure, magical healing will soil your lungs again. 1

That's actually less clear, magical healing might always need to 'heal' in some way, it won't heal things that you don't think are damaged but that doesn't mean it'll re-damage things that healed naturally, Kals mark doesn't start bleeding like it was freshly applied. 2
Stormgate he/him Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Terrible side effects: tenth heightening in a modern art show. You get the color equivalent of a flash bang.
