Thought you guys might be interested to learn that Vin and Elend are in the match this year. I figure they could probably use some of us to properly discuss their abilities.

Also, if you're one of the crazy Wheel of Time people(like me), Mat Cauthon is also in it.

Storms, I keep meaning to catch up on this year's Suvudu, and I keep forgetting! There were a few duos I am pretty excited about.

So how does this cage match work? Is it simply whoever gets the majority of the votes moves on to the next round?

The author of the fight between Vin, Elend and the random cowboys knew nothing about Allomancy or about Vin and Elend. I'll just leave it at that, the author was ignorant and a fool.

Not the worst I've seen. There was one a few years ago where the writer thought that allomancers literally lit tiny fires and burned metals in them, that Kelsier would stop in the middle of a fight to ransack some womans purse and that silver was immune to allomancy.

At least they got the basics right, though of course Vin could thrash an entire army of gunslingers and there's no way a bullet could down Elend once he's a Mistborn too.

And Brandon gave us an awesome dialogue between Kelsier and Moiraine. No actual fighting, but very true to the characters. Oh, and a potential Cosmere spoiler too...

I have never heard of Suvudu before.

Would someone might explaining it?

It's an annual (I think) tradition in the sf/f world where characters are matched up against each other in a tournament with fans voting on who wins each match and authors (Sometimes the authors of the characters, sometimes not) do a write up for how they think it will go.

There was an interesting match a while ago with Moiraine vs. Kelsier and Brandon had experience writing both and he wrote it. It was awesome.

I'm glad this thread is here! I was about to create one to let everyone know that Vin and Elend need to win this cage match! I think we have to assume Elend is a Mistborn at this point because the books are already written and it's a fight in 2016.

Allomancy, specifically two Mistborn, will easily win a fight like the current match up. They should go far in this bracket!

I'm excited for Sevro + Darrow, and Jaime Lannister + Brienne of Tarth as well :D

That would be a BLOODYDAMN epic matchup. My money's definitely on Sevro and Darrow, though. Upvote for a fellow Red Rising fan ;)

I can't see them winning against Anomander Rake and Lady Envy though... Not unless they go atium, and they go for it fast.

Yeah, but Mogget and Sabriel got kicked out in the first round because GoT has a bigger fanbase.  :(

Do... any non-Aussies know who Mogget and Sabriel are? (Beyond the one-liner about Garth Nix in Alcatraz?)

One of my favourite books beaten by one of my if not least favorite then some of what I consider the most over-rated (GRRM is a good author and all, I just really think ASoIaF gets hyped too much)

EDIT: And Sabriel has got to be one of the most potentially OP characters in the bracket, she's fragile and not necessarily monstrously powerful in her world but she has experience as a necromancer which not a lot of participants do. Plus you know, she has a bell that can instantly murder anyone who hears it.

I loved the Abhorsen series. They should not allow people to write these things without knowing how the powers work. Yrael is incredibly powerful, so the author of that match had BETTER not act as though Mogget is a cat.

Read it!! And the author actually knew what the powers were and how they worked. As opposed to everyone writing Vin and Elend.

Twas indeed quite good, made me want to re-read it actually.

I wish enough Sharders were fans to get an RP going, I love the Old Kingdom as a setting.

Oh yeah, these are a thing. Never really followed them to be honest.

*Goes take a look*

I know depressingly few of the people on that list.

Add me to the list of people saying that Sabriel's going to get absolutely robbed by the GoT fanbase.  (Seriously, I know the write-ups are hit-or-miss, but Astarael is astoundingly broken in this context)

That's a lot of atium they would need. And Rake is so good a swordsman, it probably wouldn't matter.

I have the sinking suspicion that the people writing them have never heard of atium. Nor have they heard of the fact that they can exploit any bit of metal currently on their opponents.

Vin and Elend make it to another round, despite another very one-sided writeup...

In all three scenarios so far, Vin and Elend have been caught unaware, letting their opponents get the drop on them. (Although, for this last one, it seemed to fit quite well with their adversaries.) They've also been drastically lacking metals, apparently, since they're not using Allomancy. First had a single Ironpull that also killed Vin, second had a few Pulls and Pushes that were somewhat effective, and the third had a single failed Pull.

Maybe it's just because of the matchups they're against - a vampire, gunslingers, masters of stealth, so we haven't seen any powerful magic go at them. I'd like to see an actual battle, although I don't think Legolas and Gimli are the ones to give it to them. (Even if the writer says L&G win, I'd like to at least see V&E fight like Mistborn, do some flying, use some Mental metals. I could buy Legolas at a Pewter/Tin level, and Gimli stronger than Pewter, so I can believe our Mistborn would be outclassed in sheer strength and need to try some other tricks before eventually being overcome by sheer experience.)

I am vastly disappointed by how Vin & Elend are written. The reason you want to see fictional characters duel is so you can see how their personalities and abilities compare, not so you can see one stab the other. So if you are not showing off those characters'... well, if you are not showing off anything about those characters, why are you writing about them? In that last battle Vin and Elend could just as easily have been two walking sacks of meat - barely any personality shown, no magic.
