What's the song called?

Um.  Well.  There's a problem with that.  There's a swear word in the song, and the forum filter actually doesn't catch that one....

EDIT:  I PM'd it.

I would love to explain my beliefs to your future kids, Voidus.

On Harry Potter, my parents don't mind it at all. They like it, in fact. It was my dad who read the books to us, and they would always insist that we had to finish a book before we could watch the corresponding movie. I don't know who I'd be without memories of running around with other kids, waving sticks we'd cut from the trees in our backyard and shouting incantations. Our moms would occasionally turn around to call, "No unforgivable curses!" then go back to discussing homeschool curricula.

Hmm, that became rambling. Basically, we find nothing wrong with make believe stories about magic.

The thing that my parents, and those like them, conveniently forget is that the magic warned against in the Bible was nothing like the magic in most fantasy series today. Child sacrifice and other things that caused harm to humans were major components of this sort of magic, and I can't think of a single fantasy series I've read where child sacrifice wouldn't automatically be considered the darkest of dark magic. As you pointed out, the magic in most fantasy series is more akin to miracles (Harry Potter) or superpowers (Mistborn).

I wonder what your parents would think of Dakhor.

We're having my in-laws over for Easter next weekend.  I'm planning on hiding eggs all over the back yard for the niecelings.  'Cause there can never be too many Easter egg hunts.

...I have to figure out how to cook a ham.

One method involves rubbing it all over in brown sugar, then roasting it in the oven. But I know of another recipe that involves a glaze of apricot preserves and Dijon mustard. Edited by TwiLyghtSansSparkles

Pray to whatever little goblins make ovens work. Because there seems to be no logical reason why sometimes they destroy a perfectly good ham.  <_<

Whatever I use, there will probably be pineapple rings involved.  I love me some pineapple.

Throw the ham in the trash (bet you can't guess how I feel about ham!)

Aww.  Poor ham.  (I think it's delicious, so there.)

I may have to try a Druidic technique and make an offering to the Outdwellers.  (Basically, pop something tasty outside to distract any spirit-critters who might want to cause problems.)

You should have given him a pickle and then ran away with the shoes.

I might have to resort to this, what with the price of running shoes these days...

Blargh. I'll be on mobile until tomorrow at least. My laptop keyboard is on the fritz, and the guy at the Apple Store said their next availability will be tomorrow morning. I really, really hope this is an easy and inexpensive fix.

Brr. I know that feeling all too well. Go to sleep, if you can.

...

I forgot who I am talking to. Just Compound bronze, I am sure you spiked some poor bronze Metalborns.

Voidus is so spiked that he can interact directly with all three realms of existence. Investiture is just a tool to him that he can control as he wants.

I also bake amazing brownies.  ^_^

Going a little BTW, I'm a little sad that in works set in urban fantasy there are rarely any religious characters. I know the topic can be hard and authors may not want to do it, but... c'mon. Apart from a little episode in Grossman's Magicians where we have a Catholic mage and from quite a number of going on it in Lukyanienko's Watch series where some Others are also believing in God ("Bible says that those who do magic are damned, period." vs "But we're helping people, I think God is merciful" is one example)... I find this trope almost nonexistent.

On this topic, I think Kevin Hearne does a good job of portraying religion in his Iron Druid Chronicles. In that series, ALL the religions/mythologies are true, and ALL the various associated deities and mythological figures exist--a fact which does invalidate any one individual's belief. The main character, Atticus, being a druid, is a pagan, but he has friendly interactions with the Virgin Mary, Jesus, Coyote of the Navajo belief system, and the Hindu goddess Durga, among others.

Hearne's portrayal of the religions of the world is wonderful to read, though I feel like he could have portrayed Jesus a bit differently.

Hey, has anyone ever seen the movie The Secret of Kells?
