I think it could be nice to have a thread just for discussing different foods.

I will begin discussion by proclaiming my love of salmon, cream cheese, Dijon mustard, and my hatred of bell peppers.

Posted

I shall add to the discussion by saying that I have made a slow cooker beef stew for dinner tonight and I hope it's good.

Similarly to Honor Spren, I don't like bell peppers. I just don't like the texture for some reason. The same goes for onions, tomatoes, and blueberries.

Bell peppers are all right, but people go overboard with them and use minimal preparation. Diced in an omelette or on a pizza? Delicious!

Right now, I'm very much in tofu mode. Tofu and miso soup. And a good Rueben...hmm...I may have to pick one of those up after work!

Can't have a thread about lovely food without discussing CHOCOLATE .... but not chocolate ice cream which is devilish thing. How can someone take chocolate (delicious) and ice-cream (also delicious) and make something that tastes like mud (err - I presume, not having eaten mud)?

And, just to court controversy for a moment, I'd like to make it clear that I'm talking about UK chocolate. I spent three months in the US back in the nineties and I love you guys, I love your culture, I had so much fun travelling but your chocolate just ... isn't quite the same.

Oh - and bell peppers. I love them - except green ones. Yellow, chopped thin with a dip, yum. Griddled with onions and chicken in fajitas with lettuce, salsa and sour cream - pretty much perfection. I also love the fact (which I hope is true and not some urban myth) that peppers are gendered - the ones with three 'bumps' in the base are male and the ones with four are female! Who knew?

My wife made amazing shells and cheese from scratch tonight. All I know it had for sure was cheddar, almond milk I think (we don't keep real dairy milk around often), parsley, and garlic, plus the little mini shell pasta of course. Unbelievably good.

I have a gene that allows me to taste a chemical called PTC, which is similar to a chemical in green foods, so I really don't like them.

I love mexican food, but my family only buys cheap stuff that tastes horrible. Given, the stuff I like costs $20 dollars a burrito...

About foods I can tell you something I find very interesting... Kebab's in Poland taste better than kebab's in Turkey... I wonder how Italian pizza compares to pizza made in Poland...

Clam chowder is just amazing. My dad always makes it in a dutch oven, and it's by far the most requested dish at our house.

Chocolate icecream is delicious. It's the best Icecream. Except for dark-chocolate ice cream. What I hate is vannila jce cream. That thing is atrocious.

An honorable mention for cookies, right?

As long as they're soft and chewy.  Not the type with viruses and malware.

I agree, clam chowder FTW! (The New England kind, that is. I've never had the Manhattan variety.) I made a big pot of it from my grandma's recipe recently and was very pleased with the results, considering that I've never made it on my own before.

I am also a big fan of chili con carne. I have yet to taste a chili that I don't like.

Having visited Rome last summer, I can say this: Italian>>Polish.

BTW, in Italy pizza usually have little ingredients. We're so used to milion things on pizza, but they do around three-four. And also Italian pizza have thin dough. So it's quite different from what we're used to.

I like cooking. Some people would consider me a health freak but real health freaks wouldn't consider me one of them. So I'm kind of an in-between. Currently, we are trying to include more vegetarian meals to our food intake  :)

Yesterday's tofu burgers were a fail  mainly because I used semi-firm tofu instead of firm tofu (silly me to think it wouldn't make a difference). The texture was just awful. I didn't even eat mine... The kids actually ate more of it than I

Today's vegetarian chili served on poutine style on homemade potato over-baked fries and, of course, the right cheese was really good. My whole wheat  pouding chomeur also was really good.

Brussels sprouts.  cantaloupe.

Foraged foods: black trumpets, mulberries, smilax sprigs,  poke sallet.

I lived in Xi'an China for a year almost a decade ago, and I still dream of the street food there.  There was an incredible tofu porridge in gravy, and danbing eggy flatbreads, nd big fat biangbiang noodles in broth.  The things they could do with an eggplant!  I made some baozi stuffed steamed buns about a week ago, and they sparked so many memories that I ate three days' woth in one sitting.

I went to IndiaFest the other day. I had a rose flavored ice cream. It was actually really good. It was refreshing to have a new and forein flavor that still tasted somewhat familiar.

Plus I could eat their Naan bread and drink their Mango Lassie all day.
